Kenningtons Primary

Learning Overview for Year 6

WB: 14/06/21

English The children are writing Quest stories now and this genre will take us up until the end of the school year. Having watched the David Bowie classic, Labyrinth, for inspiration, the children have been planning their characters, settings and mini-quests in order to commence writing

next week.

Suggestions of ways you can support your child’s English: The children will use this genre to show off their full repertoire of skills developed over the year. It will definitely test their stamina as writers as they will write alternate options in each chapter. It will help them to read and watch any fantasy based material which will help them to develop their subject specific vocabulary. They might want to include wizards, goblins, hobbits or beasts – this could be a great opportunity to sit down and watch an old favourite movie together.

Maths This week the children will continue to focus on algebra. After overcoming the initial shock of finding letters in their maths problems, the children rose to the challenge and can now express missing numbers algebraically. They will continue to focus on algebra next week. Suggestions of ways you can support your child’s Maths: Maths – In the first week back in January, each child received access to https://www.methodmaths.com This website contains all previous year’s SATS Maths reasoning questions and is a valuable tool in helping each child to improve.
