NOTE OF THE NIGHT Penalty S-Kill - The Capitals currently rank eighth on the penalty kill (50 for 58, 86.2 percent) and are tied for sixth on the road (32 for 37, 86.5 percent). Through 16 games last season, the Capitals ranked 29th in the NHL on the penalty kill (43 for 60, 71.7 percent) and allowed a power play goal in 12 games. This season, the Capitals have not lost in regulation when allowing a power play goal (4-0-2) and have not allowed more than two power play goals in a game.

• New Imports Contributing - Jonas Siegethaler (49:54), Radko Gudas (47:23), Carl Hagelin (46:08) and Nick Jensen (40:36) lead the Capitals in

penalty kill time, and all have established full time roles within the calendar year.

• Shot Suppression - The Capitals have allowed 42.72 shots per 60 minutes of penalty kill time this season, the third-lowest shots against rate in the

NHL.

TOP FIVE CAPS FACTS Star V - With five goals and an assist over his last three games, Jakub Vrana earned Second Star of the Week honors on Nov. 4, and at the age of 23 years and 249 days, became the youngest Capital to receive the honor since Nicklas Backstrom in 2008 (20 years, 358 days). Vrana is currently on a five-game point streak (6g, 3a). • Solid Pace - Currently, Vrana ranks third on the team with 14 points (9g, 5a) through 16 games this season after posting career highs in goals (24),

assists (23) and points (47) in 2018-19. Last season, Vrana scored his ninth goal of the season in his 28th game.

• Even V - All nine of Vrana's goals this season have come at even strength, which is tied for second in the NHL (Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl: 12;

Toronto’s Auston Matthews and Florida’s Jonathan Huberdeau: 9), through games played Nov. 5.

• Kicking Things Off - Vrana is the sixth player in franchise history to score the Capitals’ first goal of the game five times within the first 16 games of

the season and the first since Alex Ovechkin in 2009-10 (six times).

• Rare Occurrence - Excluding Ovechkin, Vrana is the first player to score five goals over a two game span in franchise history since Robert Lang (5g

from Nov. 10 to Nov. 12, 2003) and one of 13 players (including Ovechkin) to accomplish the feat.

25 Alive - For the first time in franchise history, the Capitals reached the 25-point mark in 16 games, improving on their previous season best by a game (17 games in 2010-11 and 2015-16: both 12-4-1). The Capitals were also the first team to 25 points this season. Washington has earned points in nine- straight games (8-0-1) and haven't lost since Nov. 10. (vs. Colorado). During that nine-game stretch, the Capitals have scored four or more goals eight times and at least five goals five times. Through games played Nov. 5, Capitals opponents have a combined 109-64-22 record, which is good for a .615 point percentage and equates to a 101 points over an 82-game season.

Holtbeast in November - In 71 career games played in November, Braden Holtby has posted a record of 46-20-5 with a 2.36 goals against average and a .923 save percentage, his third-lowest goals against average and second highest save percentage in any month. Since 2014-15, Holtby's 203 wins rank first in the NHL (17 wins ahead of Nashville's Pekka Rinne).

Caps Star - John Carlson has recorded 23 points this season (7g, 16a) and ranks first in points, goals, assists, primary assists (9) and even strength points (16) among defensemen.

• Climbing Lists - Carlson is currently tied with Kevin Hatcher (149g, 277a) for third place on the franchise’s all-time list among defensemen.

• Ice Time Leader - Carlson has led the Capitals in ice time in every game this season and ranks fifth in the NHL in time on ice per game (25:34).

1,100 - Alex Ovechkin played in his 1,100th career game on Sunday against Calgary, becoming the first player from the 2004 NHL Draft Class (no other player selected has reached 1,000 games) and the fifth Russian player in NHL history to reach the mark (Alex Kovalev, Sergei Gonchar, Sergei Fedorov, Vyacheslav Kozlov). Since joining the NHL during the 2005-06 season, only Patrick Marleau (1,111 games) and Eric Staal (1,108 games) have played in more games than Ovechkin. He's the 13th No. 1 overall pick to reach the mark.

• Points For O - Ovechkin's 19 points (11g, 8a) rank seventh in the NHL, and his 11 goals are tied for fourth. Ovechkin has recorded a point in all but four games this season and a point in 11 of his last 13 games (10g, 8a). The Capitals are 8-2-2 this season when Ovechkin records a point.

• Climbing Lists - Ovechkin's 669 career regular-season goals rank 12th on the NHL’s all-time list and the most in League history among players listed as a left wing.

• Shots Fired - Ovechkin's 76 shots this season lead the NHL. Ovechkin has led the NHL in shots in 11 of his previous 14 seasons. He's now 54 shots shy of passing Marcel Dionne (5,363) for the third-most shots in NHL history. Only Ovechkin and Bobby Hull (4,577 shots) have played in 1,100 games or fewer and rank in the top-30 all-time in shots.

QUICK HITS Road Warriors - Tonight marks the Capitals' first road game of November. The Capitals have a 7-1-1 record on the road this season, and last month tied an NHL record for the most road wins in the month of October (New Jersey: 2009). No other team in the NHL has more than five. Since 2014-15, the Capitals rank first in the NHL in road wins (124) and points (272).

Swede Nick - Nicklas Backstrom (233g, 652a, 885 points) is currently tied with Peter Forsberg (249g, 636a) for the seventh-most points in NHL history by a Swedish-born player. Backstrom passed Daniel Sedin on Oct. 22nd against Calgary for the fifth-most assists by a Swedish-born player in NHL history, and now trails Daniel Alfredsson (713) by 62 assists for the fourth-most.

Line is Hot - The Capitals' line of Jakub Vrana, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Tom Wilson have played together for 41:12 of five-on-five time this season. The trio has recorded a 57.50 shot attempt percentage (46 shot attempts for, 34 against), a 61.36 shots for percentage (27 shots for, 17 against) and have outscored opponents 7-2.

Sweet Sammy - With a 25-save performance against Calgary, Ilya Samsonov improved to 5-1-0 on the season with a 2.38 goals against average and a .915 save percentage. Samsonov became the first rookie goaltender in franchise history to win his first five career starts, the 18th goaltender in NHL history to accomplish this feat and the first since Charlie Lindgren of the Montreal Canadiens from April 7, 2016 to Nov. 7, 2017. Samsonov’s five wins lead all rookie goaltenders this season.

Super Efficient Lar - Lars Eller leads the Capitals with a 58.68 on-ice shot attempt percentage at five-on-five (186 shot attempts for, 131 against), which ranks 14th among forwards this season. Should Eller maintain that rate, it will be the highest shot attempt percentage recorded by a Capitals' forward since the NHL began publishing the data in the 2009-10 season (currently Alex Ovechkin: 57.64 shot attempt percentage, 2009-10).

League Leaders - The Capitals’ 63 goals through 16 games rank first in the NHL, and over the course of an 82-game season, Washington is on pace for 323 goals, which would be the third-most goals they’ve recorded in a single season in franchise history and the most since the 1992-93 season (325 goals).

Get the Lead - The Capitals have led their games for 470:24, the second-most time in the NHL (Boston: 509:13).

Did You Know? - Jonas Siegenthaler ranks first among defensemen this season in minor penalties drawn (9).

Strong Seconds - The Capitals have scored a goal in every second period this season, outscoring opponents 25-11, tied with Pittsburgh for the most second period goals in the NHL.

No Quit - Dmitry Orlov has played in 362-consecutive games, all with the Capitals, the sixth-longest active streak in the NHL.

Models of Consistency - The Capitals have scored a goal in 34 of their last 39 periods of hockey, including 13 periods with at least two goals.

Versus Opponent Versus Florida - The Capitals have earned a point in 19 of their last 25 games against the Panthers (15-6-4). Alex Ovechkin has earned 78 points (36g, 42a) in 63 career games against the Panthers, marking the fourth-most points he has earned against an NHL franchise (Winnipeg and Carolina: 91, Tampa Bay: 90).
