HURRICANES vs. PANTHERS SERIES NOTES -- Carolina and Florida are meeting for the third and final matchup this season. -- The two teams are meeting for the 124th time in their histories, with Carolina holding a 63-43-11-6 record against Florida, including a 40-16-3-1 home record and a 35-10-2-2 record at PNC Arena. The Hurricanes’ 35 wins against the Panthers at PNC Arena are their most against any opponent in the building’s 20-year history. -- The Hurricanes lead the season series 2-0-0 in 2019-20 and own a 9-1-1 record in their last 11 games in the series, including five straight wins. -- Carolina posted a 6-3 win in their lone visit of the season to BB&T Center on 10/8. Ryan Dzingel scored his first two Hurricanes goals and Jordan Staal and Teuvo Teravainen each posted a goal and an assist. Haydn Fleury and Andrei Svechnikov each tallied two-assist games, while Sebastian Aho and Dougie Hamilton each scored a goal for Carolina. CARDIAC CANES Carolina earned a 3-1 win at COL (12/19) after trailing 1-0 with three minutes left in the third period. This marked the second time in franchise regular-season history that the Hurricanes won a game in regulation when trailing within the final three minutes of a game. The feat was previously accomplished by the Whalers on 2/1/87 at PIT, when John Anderson tied the game at 17:19 of the third, Dave Tippett scored the game-winning goal at 19:06, and Scot Kleinendorst added an empty-net goal at 19:48 in an 8-6 Hartford win. The Hurricanes also accomplished the feat once in the postseason, in Game 7 of the 2009 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals at NJD. In that game, Carolina trailed 3-2 before Jussi Jokinen scored at 18:40 of the third period to tie the game and Eric Staal scored at 19:28 to seal the win.

HOMECOMING Carolina wrapped up their five-game road trip with a 3-1 win at COL (12/19), taking nine points (4-0-1 from a five-game road trip (12/10- 12/19) for the first time in franchise history. Carolina previously recorded eight points on a five-game road trip three times in franchise history: 2/28/98-3/8/98 (4-1-0), 2/5/19-2/12/19 (4-1-0), and 3/13/04-3/20/04 (3-0-0-2). Sebastian Aho led the Hurricanes with seven points (5g, 2a) during their road trip, while Dougie Hamilton registered six points (2g, 4a) and Teuvo Teravainen tallied six assists.

THE FOUR HORSEMEN Andrei Svechnikov (15g, 21a), Teuvo Teravainen (7g, 28a), Sebastian Aho (21g, 13a) and Dougie Hamilton (12g, 22a) have all posted at least 34 points through Carolina’s first 35 games this season. This marks the first time in team history (since relocation), and the second time in franchise history, that the Hurricanes have four skaters with at least 34 points through the team’s first 35 games. In 1983-84, Mark Johnson (18g, 26a), (9g, 27a), Sylvain Turgeon (17g, 17a) and Ray Neufeld (16g, 18a) all posted at least 34 points through Hartford’s first 35 games. Carolina is the only NHL team so far this season with four skaters who have each posted at least 30 points.

ISN’T THAT SPECIAL Through 35 games this season, Carolina is 26-for-110 (23.6%) on the power play and 109-for-127 (85.8%) on the penalty kill. The Hurricanes rank fifth in the league on the power play, second in the league on the penalty kill, and second in the league in combined special teams (135-for-237, 57.0%).

On the season, Reimer ranks eighth in the NHL in goals-against average (2.31) and save percentage (.927) among qualified goalies.

HEATING UP Sebastian Aho scored a goal at COL (12/19) and has now scored 18 goals in his last 23 games (11/1-12/19) after scoring three goals in his first 12 games this season (10/3-10/29). His 18 goals since the beginning of November are the most by any NHL player during that span.

With his latest goal, Aho passed Ron Francis for the fourth-most goals through a player’s first four seasons in franchise history.

He spent the previous seven seasons as an assistant coach after serving the team in player development from 2010-12. All three of his goals came within a 3:59 span of the second period, the fastest hat trick in franchise history. The Johnston, R.I., native is the first NHL player to notch consecutive three-goal performances since Alex Ovechkin (6G, Dec. 11-Dec. 14, 2018) and the second in franchise history, joining Pavel Bure (Feb. 10-14, 2001). He is the eighth player in the NHL's modern era to score each of his first two career hat tricks in consecutive games (Per NHL PR). Acciari's third tally vs. DAL, was a shorthanded penalty shot goal. Theo Fleury (Oct. 22, 1996) was the only other NHL player to record their third tally of the game as a shorthanded penalty shot goal (Per NHL PR). Acciari's 11 goals this season are a career-high. He leads the team with four game-winning goals this season.

The Boston, Mass., native is the NHL’s active “Iron Man” streak leader, expected to play in his 832nd consecutive regular season game tonight. Quenneville, 61, has more than 20 years of NHL head coaching experience with the St. Louis Blues (1996-2004), Colorado Avalanche (2005- 2008) and Chicago Blackhawks (2008-2018) organizations. A native of Windsor, Ontario, Quenneville owns the second-most regular season wins as an NHL head coach in NHL history.
