Julie Gibson, former Treasurer at Greeneview Local Schools in Jamestown, is now the Treasurer/CFO of Northwestern Local Schools. Prior to becoming the Treasurer at Greeneview Schools in October 2007, Mrs. Gibson was the treasurer of the Clark County Educational Service Center for three INSIDE years and an assistant treasurer at Fairborn City Schools for two years. Mrs. Gibson is a member of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials and the Miami Valley School Business Officials, and is a board member at MVECA, an Information Technology Center serving local school districts. Child Find Preschool Screening Northwestern Local Schools is committed to the location and identification of children from birth through age 21 in need of early intervention, preschool special education, or school-age services. JR/SR HIGH NEWS: SADD attended the Ohio SADD DomeShift conference on November 8th. Students learned about teen driver laws and traffic safety. Several students attended a seminar with Rick Birt, the acting CEO of SADD National and Northwestern graduate. We brought back many new and exciting ideas to incorporate in our SADD organization.

Parent Resources Do you sometimes wonder why your teen acts the way he/she does? Where did the attitude and behaviors come from? What can I do about it? The junior-senior high school has started a parent resource library. We have books on many different topics that deal with teenagers, and would be happy to loan them to you! Just stop by the office and see any administrator or counselor to check one out!

NHS Book Drive In December NHS held a book drive and collected over 1,200 books. The winning grade was the 7th grade. Here they are with their cookies. National FFA Week: February 19th to 23rd was National FFA Week all across the Nation! The purpose of FFA Week is to advocate for FFA, celebrate being an FFA member and thank all of the people who support and help FFA chapters. Northwestern FFA participated throughout the week by holding many activities for our members and the community. Those activities were a FELFIE contest (you and a farm animal) throughout the Jr/Sr High, Mini judging labs for the students, a staff appreciation lunch for the staff of Northwestern Jr/Sr High School with pork donated byb Kaffenbarger Farms Inc. and buns donated by Klosterman’s bakery, an Ag Mechanics CDE night with the help of many community members and an Ag Olympics and Ag Trivia challenge. Thank you to those who have helped and supported us!

FCCLA Chili Cook Off The FCCLA held their annual chili cook-off during the Boys game on Tuesday, January 30. They raised $155 which will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House. Congratulations to Cody Miller for preparing the winning chili recipe. 3rd Annual Empty Bowls Project sale For the last few months Mrs. Evans and her students in Explora ons in Clay have been hard at work. They have been busy using skills learned in class to build bowls for our third annual Empty Bowls Project fundraiser. Empty Bowls Project is an ini a ve started by two art teachers in Michigan in 1990. They no ced a need in their area for food and decided to get their students to help. Students make bowls and sell them, dona ng the money to local food banks or homeless shelters. Students have accepted the challenge and we have over 100 bowls to sell. Bowls will be on sale for $5 March 8th, 9th, and 10th during the spring musical and art show. We will be dona ng all of the money from the sales to The Rainbow Table located in the Central Community Center on High Street (previously Faith United Methodist). Last year we brought in over $450 – We’re hoping to go way over that amount this year so we can help even more people!

3rd Annual Spring Art Show Mrs. Evans and Miss Hilgenberg along with the NW art club are sponsoring the 3rd annual art show March 8th, 9th, and 10th during the spring musical in the small gym. Come out and see all of their hard work from this year on display. While you’re there you can buy one of their Empty Bowls to support The Rainbow Table.
