They are nocturnal, hiding by day and coming out at night to forage. They take almost any available food, mainly small, benthic invertebrates. They are extremely hardy and live in a wide variety of aquatic habitats. At maturity, they leave fresh water and enter the ocean to spawn. Some species migrate long distances to specific spawning areas. -

There is, however, presently no study conducted on the endoparasites infestation in these fishes. Therefore, the objectives of the present study were to identify endoparasitic worms and examine the intensity level in skipjack tuna K. pelamis from Sibolga waters. Sampling was conducted in Debora Private Fishing Port, Sibolga from 4th to 18th June 2019 and a total of 20 fish samples with weight ranged between 740 g and 1.200 g and length from 37.2 cm to 41.4 cm were analyzed in the study. The identification of the worm was conducted in the laboratory using a stereo microscope. The results showed seven species or genera of worms were found in the intestine and stomach of the fish with varying level of intensity and incidence. For example, Echinorhynchus sp. was found with 100% intestinal and 10% stomach incidences at a total intensity of 8.5; Acanthocephalus sp. with 25% intestinal incidence and 1.6 intensity, Rhadinorhynchus sp. with 25% intestinal and 5% stomach incidences, and 1.5 intensity; Leptorhynchoides sp. -

MILLER 1, JUN AOYA M A , AND KATSU M I TSU K A M OTO Ocean Research Institute, The University of Tokyo 1-15-1 Minamidai, Nakano, Tokyo 164-8639 Japan Abstract.—Recent studies on leptocephali and glass eels of anguillid species in the western North Pacific and Indonesian Seas suggest that tropical eels have very dif- ferent life history characteristics than temperate species, which may have important implications for their conservation and management. Some species in the Indonesian Seas region, such as the Indonesian mottled eel Anguilla celebesensis and the Indo- nesian longfinned eel A. borneensis, appear to have short spawning migrations and larval durations compared with temperate species. Species such as the Indonesian mottled eel A. celebesensis likely have multiple populations that spawn locally and recruit back to the same area. However, the giant mottled eel A. marmorata appears to have several separate populations in various regions of the Indian Ocean and west- ern North and South Pacific oceans. The northern population of this species probably spawns in the North Equatorial Current region of the western North Pacific and has a long spawning migration more characteristic of temperate species. These findings suggest that the population structures of various tropical and temperate eel species may be quite different. Therefore some tropical anguillid species may require man- agement at regional levels rather than as single panmictic species, as generally has been the case for temperate species. -

Here, we used gut content analysis and morpho-histology to examine optimum foraging theory in P. boro in the Pranburi River estuary. Gut content analysis revealed that four species of crabs, including Metaplax elegans, Perisesarma bidens, Sarmatium germaini, and Uca perplexa, but S. germaini were consistently present at high levels in the gut throughout a year-long study. The index of relative importance showed that the most important prey was S. germaini. The overall anatomical morphology of the digestive system of P. boro was elongated, and the stomach appeared as Y-shaped. The histology of the P. boro esophagus, stomach, and intestine were examined followed the standard histological techniques. Goblet cells through the digestive tract of P. boro were also seen among the epitheliums and reacted positively to periodic acid schiff and alcian blue staining methods. Overall, we suggest that P. boro is a specialist feeder on crabs rather than an opportunistic feeder. -

The sampling was conducted in Aceh Singkil, Aceh Jaya and Aceh Besar Districts from August to September 2016 and January 2017. Twenty-two samples from Aceh Singkil, one sample from Aceh Jaya, and 23 samples from Aceh Besar were analyzed for gastrointestinal worms. Two species of worms were found in the gastrointestinal tract of fish samples, namely, Anisakis sp. and Procamallanus sp. Anisakis sp. was found in the stomach of the eel sample from Aceh Singkil, while Procamallanus sp. was found in the intestine of the eel samples from Aceh Jaya. BACKGROUND Information on the status and trends of fisheries is widely recognized as crucial in serving as basis for sustainable development and management of fisheries. SEAFDEC throughout the past decades had undertaken several activities to compile various forms of fishery-related data and information, e.g. regional fishery statistics based on the national statistics data provided by the Southeast Asian countries, as well as other data and information from different SEAFDEC programs/projects. In order to ensure that the outputs from these initiatives could be integrated or digested into information that support the development and management for sustainable fisheries of the region, SEAFDEC in 2010 undertook a pilot exercise in developing the publication on “The Southeast Asian State of Fisheries and Aquaculture” or “SEASOFIA”. Such endeavor was meant to provide platform for compilation of synthesized data and information generated from various programs of activities, while incorporating other data and information available in the region, in order to provide better understanding on the status and trends of fisheries and aquaculture of the region. The first SEASOFIA was published in 2012. While taking into consideration the usefulness of the SEASOFIA especially as a tool in providing a platform for integrating regional data and information and in coming up with information to support policy planning and management of fisheries, the SEAFDEC Council during its 44th Meeting agreed that the SEASOFIA could be published on a regular basis, i.e. -

The new species, R. angusticau- data sp. n., described from the intestine of the Japanese eel Anguilla japonica Temminck et Schlegel in the Renjoji River, Shikoku, is mainly characterised by the presence of 14–16 anterior prostomal teeth, non-bifurcated deirids with rounded ends, the length of the left spicule (300–384 µm long), the right spicule with a dorsal barb and non-filamented eggs. The species of Paraquimperia Baylis, 1934 and A. arctica are reported from Japan for the first time.
