Adams, Judy Judy K. Adams of Kokomo, Ind., 66, a Local Pastor of the Indiana Conference, died Nov. 24, 2013. She served several United Methodist churches in Indiana. She then retired in 2011 and did pulpit fill in Marion, Burlington, Goldsmith and lastly, Grant, (Fairmount) and Summitville. She was the first head of the Fellowship of Local Pastors in the new Indiana Conference. Survivors include: husband, Ken; son, Mike Conner and wife Brandy; daughter, April Campbell; step-son, Brian Adams and wife Joselyn and nine grandchildren. A memorial service was held Nov. 30, 2013, at Main Street United Methodist Church in Kokomo with the Rev. Nancy S. Blevins officiating assisted by Dr. Phil Granger, District Superintendent Rev. Michelle Cobb and the Rev. Riley Case. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Allen, Howard Howard Allen of Lebanon, 73, retired Elder of the Indiana Conference and husband of the Rev. Betty Jane Eppert Allen, also a retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, died peacefully Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, in his home while surrounded by his friends and family. His ministry involved the Lions Club, Boy Scouts and Habitat for Humanity; missions to Haiti and West and Central Africa; and educational trips to Israel, Russia and Germany. A memorial service was held Oct. 19, at Centenary United Methodist Church in Lebanon. A time of sharing and Celebration of Life followed in the fellowship hall. Survivors include: wife, Rev. Betty Eppert Allen; daughters Tammy Stuart of Lebanon, and Michelle Allen of Indianapolis; sons John Greg Allen of Brighton, Mich., and Michael AIlen of Canton, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Mary Allen of Brighton, Mich.; son-in-law, James Stuart of Lebanon; his mother, Violet Allen of Lebanon; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Ballard, Charles Charles Ballard, a retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, died Feb. 22, 2014. He was born in Evansville August 15, 1924, to the late Charles Curtis and Lorean Moore Ballard. He graduated from Central High School and after 30 months in the South Pacific during World War II returned to Evansville where he graduated from the University of Evansville. Charles entered Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, graduating in 1953; The University of Evansville awarded him an Honorary Doctor of Divinity in 1964. Charles served churches in Spencer, Madison Trinity, New Albany Trinity, Indianapolis Irvington and Terre Haute Memorial, during which time he served two terms as a District Superintendent. A memorial service was held March 8 at Roberts Park United Methodist Church in Indianapolis. He is survived by a son, Franklin Fletcher Ballard of Indianapolis. Charles' wife, Karleen of 62 years; and son, Charles "Chuck" Ballard, preceded him in death.

Beckley, James Rev. James W. “Jim” Beckley, 76, died April 5, 2014, at Westminster Village after an extended illness. Jim was born on Nov. 4, 1937, in Muncie, the son of Wilfred and Arvie Beckley and graduated from Parker High School. He attended Asbury College (University) in Wilmore, Kentucky, graduating in 1960. He continued his education at Asbury Theological Seminary, receiving his Master of Divinity Degree in 1963 and he was ordained in the United Methodist Church in 1965. He served as a pastor in the Methodist Church for 37 years. Sixteen of those were in the North Indiana Conference while 21 years he was in the United States Air Force as a chaplain serving in Arizona, Thailand, Kansas, North Carolina, Labrador, Texas, England and California. Jim retired in 1999 enjoying time to read, listen to music, riding his bike and keeping up with old friends. Survivors include his wife of thirty-three years, JoAnn Beckley; his daughters, Maria Barron (husband, Paul), Luisa Mayer (husband, Jeff) and Ariana Dickerson (husband, Mike); also surviving are his six grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Mirtha Beckley. A memorial service was held on April 11, 2014, at Grace Episcopal Church with Father Thomas Blake and Pastor Daryl Gilbert presiding. Burial followed in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie.

Beeman, Milton Milton Eugene Beeman, 77, died May 24, 2013, at his residence in Franklin. He was born April 1, 1936, in Moline, Illinois. His parents were Leon and Esther (Beuoy) Beeman. He married Edith (Bratton) on August 22, 1959 in Ashland, Wisc. She lovingly survives in Franklin, Ind. Other survivors include children, Mark Beeman of Indianapolis; Cynthia (Larry) Baysinger of Bargersville and Susan (Dave) Young of Carmel; and eight grandchildren. Milt was a 1954 graduate of Rock Island High School in Rock Island, Illinois. He was a 1958 graduate of Northland College, where he received his Bachelor's degree and Christian Theological Seminary and his Masters in Divinity. He was a United Methodist minister, retiring after many years of serving churches in Iowa, Indiana and New Jersey. Milt enjoyed building doll houses and truck collecting. He was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, Indy 500 and NASCAR. Rev. Mike Biggs conducted a service May 28, 2013, at the Franklin United Methodist Community, Wright Chapel. Burial was at Matthews Cemetery in Matthews, Ind.

Berger, Hilbert Rev. Dr. Hilbert Berger, 93, of , died Sept. 6, 2013, at St. Mary Health care, Lafayette, Ind. Born April 9, 1920, in Edgerton, Ohio, he was a son of the late Rev. and Mrs. Hilbert S. Berger. He retired after 42 years as a pastor and teacher in The United Methodist Church. His last pastorate was at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Fort Wayne. He also served pastorates in Waterloo, Avilla, Elkhart and West Lafayette, in Indiana. For six years, he was the Assistant General Secretary of the General Board of the Laity in Evanston, Ill., and headed the Section of Christian Stewardship for The United Methodist Church. He graduated from Mishawaka High School, Mishawaka, Ind., North Central College, Naperville, Ill., and Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary, in Evanston, Ill. He was granted a doctorate from Bethune - Cookman University, Daytona Beach, FL. He is survived by his son, Rev. Daniel (Kelly) Berger of Lafayette; daughter, Rebecca (Terry) Zarnik of LaBelle, Fla.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Geneva Berger and son, Thomas. A memorial service was held Sept. 14, 2013, at First Wayne Street United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne. The Rev. Greg Enstrom and the Rev. Justin, K. Fisher officiated.

Bickel, Robert Rev. Dr. Robert Bickel died August 10, 2013, surrounded by his family. Bob was a Methodist pastor for over 40 years, serving parishes mainly in the Conference. He received his Bachelor’s Degree at the InterAmerican University in Puerto Rico, his Theology Degree from Candler School of Theology in Atlanta, GA, and his Ph.D. from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago. Bob was always known to have a thirst for knowledge. He was an avid reader throughout his life, immersing himself in various subjects. In addition to his intellectual pursuits, Bob led a life of public service, constantly devoting himself to the communities in which he resided throughout his career as a pastor. Bob took great pride in his family, which he loved with all of his being. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Hilda, his son Rob (Kathy), daughter Lissa Campbell (Brian), grandchildren Matthew Bickel and Lucy Campbell. A Celebration of Life memorial service was held at Fishers United Methodist Church on August 24, 2013.

Boggs, John Reverend John Robert Boggs, Jr., of Winona Lake, Ind., died on June 19, 2013 at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne, Ind., at the age of 91. He was a United Methodist minister, starting his ministry with the church in 1944 and retiring in 1992. He pastored in Ohio, North Dakota and Indiana. Reverend Boggs also started a soup kitchen in Elkhart, Indiana. He was a resident of Kosciusko County, Indiana, moving there in August 1987, and attended Atwood Christian Fellowship Church in Atwood, Indiana. He was born on April 13, 1922, in Bremen, Georgia, to John Robert Boggs, Sr., and Lola Gertrude (Posey) Boggs. On July 10, 1943, he was married to Maxine Ratcliff who preceded him in death in May 2000. He remarried on March 31, 2001, to Jodie (Miller) Kreider, who survives in Winona Lake, Indiana. He is also survived by: two daughters, Carol (husband James) VanPelt (Redkey, Ind.); Barbara (husband John) McMunn (Lambertville, Michigan); two step- daughters: Gerry (husband Elmer) Compton (Silver Lake, Indiana); Ronda (husband Steve) Gaston (Stedman, North Carolina); six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one son, one daughter and nine sisters. His funeral service was June 23, 2013 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw, Ind., and officiated by Pastor Jerry Kissinger. Burial followed at Lindenwood Cemetery in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Carroll, Charles Charles Daniel Carroll Sr., of Punta Gorda, Fla., 86, a retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, died Tuesday, July 9, 2013. He was born September 28, 1927, in Indianapolis, Ind., the son of Charles E. and LaVerne Carroll. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, and served in the Pacific on the U.S.S. Cabildo. Before entering the ministry, he was a Senior Project Chemical Engineer at Allison Division of General Motors. In 1961, he moved his family to Greensburg, Ind., and resided there until 1978. He was ordained an Elder in The United Methodist Church in 1980 and served full-time for twenty-five years. After moving to Florida in 1992, he served as an interim pastor, claiming he would "retire the day he died." Over the years, he and his wife Dolores traveled extensively worldwide. Charles was a member of the Masonic Order, Scottish Rite, Shriners, and a fifty-year member of the Order of Eastern Star. He was active in the Walk to Emmaus, youth ministry, Sunday school and many other activities. He was an avid fisherman and golfer. Survivors include his wife of four years, Helen; daughters, Sue Ann (Phil) Coale of Punta Gorda, Fla., Linda (Ben) Gatch of Zionsville, Ind., and Faye (Rev. Larry) Marhanka of Plymouth, Ind.; sons; Charles D. Carroll, Jr., of Carmel, Ind., and John T. Carroll of Indianapolis, Ind.; fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dolores V. Carroll. A Celebration of Life service was held July 17, 2013, at Edgewater United Methodist Church in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Christopher, Richard Rev. Richard Lawrence Christopher died June 22, 2013, at the Franklin United Methodist Community in Franklin, Ind., where he was a resident. He was born November 16, 1927, in Chicago Heights, Ill., to Lawrence Amos Christopher and Ethel Marie (Anderson) Christopher. Dick grew up in Huntingburg, Ind. He served in the U.S. Army, attended Evansville College and later attended seminary at Duke University. He was District Superintendent in the Vincennes District from 1968-1974, and in the Indianapolis West District from 1985-1991. Dick was instrumental in establishing mission projects in Haiti. In 1986, he represented the Indiana United Methodist Conference at the Annual World Conference in Nairobi, Kenya. After having been married for 35 years to Phyllis Knight Christopher (on June 11, 1950) who predeceased him on June 14, 1985, he is survived by his wife Alice Bishop Hopwood Christopher, whom he married on December 25, 1986; three daughters, Carol L. Christopher (Lisa Steiner) of Noblesville, Beth M. Fuller of Tucson, Ariz., and Laura J. Wood (Chris) of Muncie; three step- daughters, Sara J. Edwards (Phil) of Fortville, Mary S. Peterson (Dave) of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Martha L. King (Kevin) of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina; step-son, Ruben A. Hopwood (Melanie) of Cambridge, Maryland; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The Revs. Robert Coleman, Andy Kinsey and Jenothy Rather conducted a memorial service July 13, 2013, at the Wright Chapel of the Franklin United Methodist Community, Franklin. A private graveside service took place at South Mound Cemetery in New Castle.

Cobbs, Ernest Ernest Cobbs of Warren, 94, retired member of the Indiana Conference, died May 9, 2013. Ernest was born on March 30, 1919, near Darlington to Marion and Sarah Vangie (Cramer) Cobbs. He graduated from Roanoke High School in 1937. Ernest married his childhood sweetheart, Geraldine Swing, on September 3, 1939, and they enjoyed 69 years of marriage. Geraldine preceded him in death. Survivors include; four sons, James (Kate) Freemont; DeWain (Jeannie), Warsaw; Charles, Upland; Joseph, Alpine, Texas; two daughters, Patricia (Dan) Stanley, Van Buren, and Catherine (Gerald) Clayton, Sidney, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held May 13, 2013, at the Jones-Smith Funeral home with the Rev. Rob Neel officiating. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery in Huntertown.

Cook, Charles Rev. Dr. Charles William Cook, 81, of Nokomis and Tallahassee, Fla., formerly of West Virginia and Indiana, died March 14, 2014. Born May 2, 1932, in Amherstdale, he was a son of the late Arnold and Beatrice Cook. Survivors include: three children, Victoria Cook (Steven) Ash of Tallahassee, Fla., Charles W. Cook III of St. Augustine, Fla., and James E. (Debra) Cook of Winchester, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He joined the Boy Scouts at age 12 and attained Eagle Scout when he was 14, the youngest Eagle Scout in West Virginia at the time. During the summers of 1950 and 1951, Charlie worked in the coal mines to earn money for college and entered West Virginia Wesleyan College in the fall of 1950, where he played first-string defensive half-back on the football team during his freshman year. He then transferred to Marshall University at Huntington where, in June 1951, he married his high school sweetheart, Leona "Lee" Cline, to whom he was married for 59 years until her death in August, 2010. Charlie graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, later receiving a Master of Divinity degree from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. Because of his lifelong love of learning and the constant desire to improve himself, he pursued and earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Drew University in New Jersey in 1980. Services celebrating Rev. Cook's life were held May 2, 2014, at Christ United Methodist Church in Venice, Fla.

Cottom, Glen Dale Rev. G. Dale Cottom, 97, of Evansville, died on Oct. 20, 2013, at Solarbron Assisted Living facility. He was born in Blackhawk Oct. 24, 1915, to Riley Cottom and Edmona Edmondson Cottom. He graduated from Blackhawk High School in 1933. He was ordained as a pastor in the Evangelical United Brethren Church. Over the years he served as a pastor at Farmer’s Chapel, Fontanet, Fort Harrison, Oak Hill and West Terre Haute United Methodist Churches. He maintained his membership at the Breden Memorial United Methodist Church. He is survived by his son, David L. Cottom, M.D., and wife, Jackie; granddaughters Camme H. Miles, D.V.M., and C. Lee Worley, M.D. (Rodney); grandson, J. Cris Cottom, P.E. (Betty); six great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Avola Hazel Hutchinson Cottom, whom he married in 1939. Funeral services were held October 27, 2013, at DeBaun Springhill Chapel with Pastors David Deal and Jeff Lee officiating. Private burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Davis, Susan The Rev. Susan Lynn Davis, 44, of Fairland, died March 29, 2014, at Select Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born May 27, 1969, in Shelbyville, the daughter of Everett “Ego” and Wilma (Merrell) Davis. Susan is survived by her brother, Steven Merrell Davis and wife, Tammy, of Morristown. She was preceded in death by her parents. Susan graduated from Morristown High School in 1987; Ball State University in 1992, with a degree in education; and received a Master of Divinity from the Christian Theological Seminary. She was a member of Fountaintown United Methodist Church. Susan was the minister at Fairland United Methodist Church for 13 years and taught English, literature and U.S. history in Indianapolis public schools for 21 years. A memorial service was held at the church with Pastor Ben Biggs and Rev. Jim Cherry officiating. Interment was at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.

Dinwiddie, George George Dinwiddie, 102, of LaGrange, died February 27, 2014, at his home. He was born on October 21, 1911, in Attica to Robert and Hattie Mae (Schultz) Dinwiddie. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp, where he served in World War II as a chaplain. He married Flora Mae Banta on August 8, 1946, and she preceded him in death in 1996. He is survived by: sons, Michael T. Dinwiddie of Madison, Wis., Geofrey C. Dinwiddie and Eric Hughes of Toronto, Canada; one daughter, Annell M. (Daniel) Troyer of LaGrange, Ind.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother and sister. George was a Methodist minister from 1946 to 1978, serving Indianapolis, New Palestine, Acton, Evansville, Osgood, Fort Branch, Shipshewana and Scott. He was honored with the Golden Cane of the Methodist Church as being the oldest living Methodist Minister in Indiana. The funeral service was March 3, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church, LaGrange, with Pastor Chris Danielson officiating. Burial with military honors was March 4, 2014, at New Richmond Cemetery, New Richmond.

Dixon, Ronald Rev. Ronald H. Dixon, 75, died June 26, 2013, at his home in South Bend. He was born July 1, 1937, in Gary, a son of Withington and Marguerite (Holmes) Dixon. On August 22, 1964 in Fountaintown he was married to Barbara S. Williamson. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara S. Dixon; two sons, Michael (Jessica) Dixon of Plymouth and Kevin (Pamela) Dixon of New Carlisle; and five grandchildren. Rev. Dixon was ordained a minister in The United Methodist Church in 1964. He served congregations in Rolling Prairie and Etna Green and moved to South Bend in 1994, serving as pastor of Northwest United Methodist and St. Paul's Memorial United Methodist churches. He retired from full-time ministry in 2000. He was a graduate of DePauw University and Garrett- Evangelical Theological Seminary. A memorial service was held June 29, 2013, at Southlawn United Methodist Church in South Bend.

Dungy, Robert Robert Elwood Dungy, 77, of South Bend, died March 9, 2014, in Memorial Hospital of South Bend. He was born December 19, 1936, in Jackson, Mich., son of Herbert and Alberta (Milben) Dungy. Rev. Dungy began his career as a social studies teacher at Westside Junior High School, and also taught Black history at Central High School, both in Elkhart. He also served as an instructor at Bethel College, Mishawaka. He graduated from Detroit Lutheran High School, Moody Bible Institute, Grace College, Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary and Christian Theological Seminary. He began his ministerial work with The United Methodist Church in the mid-1970s until his retirement in 2002. He served at the Gary Outreach Ministry and Ambridge UMC in Gary as an urban missioner; associate pastor at First United Methodist Church, South Bend, and Fairmount UMC; dean of the Upper Room and director of church cultivation in Nashville, Tenn.; superintendent of the former Columbus District; as well as serving churches in Marion, South Bend and Elkhart. On July 22, 1961, in Fremont, Ohio, he was married to Constance L. Tucker. He is survived by his loving wife Constance of 52 years, along with two daughters, Jocelyn (Anthony) Owens, of Virginia Beach, Va.; Angela K. (Charles) Bond of South Bend; a son, Stephen (Michelle) Dungy of South Bend; and seven grandchildren. A celebration of Rev. Dungy’s life was held March 14, 2014, at Evangel Heights United Methodist Church, South Bend. Rev. Dr. Patrick Somers, pastor of the church, officiated. Interment followed at Riverview Mausoleum, South Bend.

Green, Reuben Rev. R. Edwin Green, 97, died February 12, 2014, in Allen, Texas. He was born October 5, 1916, in Randolph County to Euphis and Bessie (Byrum) Green. He grew up and from high school in Union City. Throughout his youth, he was very active in the local Methodist Church, which influenced him to enter the ministry. He was granted a Local Preachers License by the Richmond District of the North Indiana Methodist Conference on April 19, 1934, while still in high school. He graduated from Indiana University as a history major. He graduated from Boston University School of Theology with graduate degrees in history and theology. He also attended both Harvard University and Oxford University in England. In 1939, he was selected as a delegate to the World Conference of Christian Youth in Amsterdam and had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe by bicycle. He wed Mary Agnes Penrod of Marion on April 30, 1944. Together they served in various Methodist pastorates in Indiana. Mary and Edwin Green retired to St. Simons Island, Ga., in 1980. There Edwin was able to pursue his interest in history and Mary her interest in art. They authored and illustrated the book, “St. Simons Island, A Summary of its History,” and successfully distributed it through seven printings and over 18,000 copies. They were faithful members of the St. Simons Island United Methodist Church. After spending 29 years on St. Simons Island, Mary and Edwin moved to the Texas to be closer to children; however, St. Simons Island was home. Upon her death in 2010, Mary's cremains were interred at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens on St. Simons Island. Edwin will join his wife of 66 years at Oglethorpe Gardens where, together, they will watch over the Green family from above Survivors include: children, John W. Green (wife Sandy), Philip B. Green (wife Barbara), Thomas J. Green (wife Jane) and Susan E. Wilkerson (husband Scott); seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Agnes Green and two grandchildren.

Hansen, Robert Bob Hansen, 78, died June 23, 2013. Bob became a United Methodist pastor in his twenties after graduating from Indiana University and then continuing through Garrett- Evangelical Seminary, receiving a Bachelor of Divinity Degree. He was involved in numerous organizations throughout his ministry and left a legacy of ministering and helping others that is impossible to measure. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Hansen; sons, Tim (Inessa), Chris (Linda), Jeff (Gayle), and Andy (Jennifer); daughter, Susan (Ron) Frickey; stepsons, Don (Michelle) Costanza and Rob Costanza; 13 grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren. A memorial service was held June 2, 2013, at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church.

Harden, Oval Oval Brent Harden of Logansport, formerly of Center Point, 84, a retired clergy member of the Indiana Conference, died Aug. 10, 2013. He was born June 7, 1929, in Clay County, the son of William and Esther Mae Fischer Harden. He graduated from Bowling Green High School and later attended Course of Study at Garrett-Evangelical Seminary in Evanston, Ill. As a young man he worked in farming and construction before entering the ministry in 1957. On July 1, 1950, he was married to Ann Carol Moore Harden and together they raised their family and enjoyed 63 years of marriage. Rev. Harden was ordained as an Elder in the Methodist Church in 1963. Survivors include his wife, Ann Carol; children, Joetta Warthan and husband Clarence of Frankfort Myron Harden and wife Diana of New Palestine, Paul Harden and wife Rita of Center Point, Colleen Harden of West Terre Haute, and Annetta McKaig and husband Tim of Logansport, and nine grandchildren. A memorial service was held August 14, 2013, at the Union United Methodist Church in Brazil. The Revs. Andrew Charnstrom and Judi Purvis officiated. Burial followed at Union Cemetery.

Hirschy, Cletus Cletus Hirschy, 95, of Bradenton, Fla., retired clergy member of the Indiana Conference, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013. He was born on July 25, 1918, in Howe to Manes and Stella (Gates) Hirschy. He graduated from Manchester University and Boston University with degrees in education and theology. He was married to Betty Gloor Hirschy, who preceded him in death, for 40 years. Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Janet; one daughter, Ann Hirschy (Stan) Houck; one son, David L. Hirschy; one stepson, Jeffrey (Jane) Sizemore; one stepdaughter, Linda (David) Ramirez; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service was held Oct. 21, at Waynedale United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne, Ind. Burial followed in Lindenwood.

Jenkins, Ivan Rev. Ivan O. Jenkins, 83, Indianapolis, died peacefully December 9, 2013, surrounded by family and friends. At an early age he professed a hope in Christ and was baptized. On February 2, 1955, he married Ella B. Clarkson, who preceded him in death in October 1999. He retired from the United States Army with 20-plus years of service. He retired from The United Methodist Church in 1998. He was a member of Barnes United Methodist Church, where he was a dedicated and loyal member. Rev. Jenkins was affiliated with several organizations, which include the U.S. Army Association, Prince Hall Military Masonic Lodge, Thorntown Kiwanis International and the American Legion. He also volunteered for Indianapolis Public Schools. He enjoyed bowling, traveling, reading and helping people. He is survived by his children, Elmeta Jenkins, Farland Jenkins, Bernette Jenkins-Pleas, Roni Jenkins, Jerry Norman and Glenis Elizaberth Dent; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service was held December 16, 2013, at Barnes United Methodist Church with interment at Crown Hill Cemetery.

Kavich, John John David "J.D." Kavich of Anderson, 94, retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, died July 13, 2013. He was born March 3, 1919, in Louisville, Ky., the son of Edward and Blanche (Aldridge) Kavich. A graduate of Asbury Theological Seminary, he served churches in Indianapolis, New Albany and Laurel, Ind. Survivors include his two children, Jean (Calvin) Bloom and David (Tammy) Kavich, all of Anderson; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce K. (McPherson) Kavich on March 24, 2008. Graveside services were held on July 14, 2013, at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.

Lancaster, Richard Richard Lancaster, 91, died Oct. 30, 2013, a week after suffering a heart attack. He had lived independently until that point, having recently returned to Indianapolis from his 47th annual summer stay at the family cottage in Deer Isle, Maine. He was a minister at Meridian Street United Methodist Church from 1962 to 1988. During his fifty years as an Indiana minister, including several years at churches in Stidham, Plainfield and Hammond, he preached more than 2,000 sermons. Richard was born in Massachusetts and lived there, as well as Iowa and Ohio, before serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific as a gunnery officer during World War II. His father was also a Methodist minister, but he did not make the decision to become one himself until after the war. At Yale Divinity School, he met Harriet Schroeder, his wife for fifty years until her death in 2000. He is survived by three children: David in Seattle, Peter in Minneapolis, and Ann in Boston; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Richard conducted hundreds of funerals. His ashes will be buried next to Harriet's on Deer Isle.

Leth, Carl Carl Leth of Linton, 85, retired associate clergy member of the Indiana Conference, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, in Glenburn Home, Linton, Ind. He was born November 17, 1927, in Racine, Wis., to Olaf Leth and Ellen Marie (Hansen) Leth. Carl loved sports, especially football following the Green Bay Packers. He had a huge Packers memorabilia collection. He was an avid golfer until about six years ago when his eyes began to fail. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and served with the Army Band in Europe. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Kathryn L. (Light) Leth of Linton, whom he married Nov. 25, 1977; children and their spouses, Rev. Dr. Carl M. and Nancy Leth of Kankakee, Ill., Paul E. Leth of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Linda J. High of Wichita, Kans., Mike J. Leth of Pueblo, Colo., Lt. Col. John and Lisa Majewski, Jr., of Belleville, Ill., Andrew J. Majewski of Linton, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Bev Durham; and granddaughter, Michelle Leth. A memorial service was held November 17 (Carl’s birthday) at the Jasonville United Methodist Church in Jasonville.

Louthain, John Calvin John Louthain, a retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, died Saturday, October 19, 2013, in Warsaw Meadows Care Center. He was born March 25, 1925, near Walton in Cass County, to Ellery Arthur and Mary Evaleen (Kingery) Louthain. He graduated from Ervin High School, Howard County, in 1943, and was inducted into the U.S. Army in January 1945 at the age of 19. He served in Okinawa and Japan and was discharged in November 1946. On Dec. 20, 1957, he married Blanche Burwell, in Upland. Since retirement, he has lived in Ohio, Florida, Kentucky and Indiana. Survivors include: his wife of 55 years, Blanche (Burwell) Louthain of Warsaw; his daughter, Hilda (and spouse, David) Fyock of Nampa, Idaho; two sons, Charles (and spouse, Karen) Louthain of Warsaw and Marvin Louthain of Sunbury, Ohio; and three grandsons. A memorial service was held October 22, 2013, at Otterbein United Methodist Church, Atwood with Pastor Dale Linhart officiating. A private burial was held at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Low, David David Low of Crawfordsville, 59, an Elder of the Indiana Conference on incapacity leave, died March 23, 2014, at Williamsburg Health and Rehab after a 10-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born Dec. 29, 1954, in Greenfield, to Richard and Julia (Marquis) Low. He married Debra Robbins Kennedy April 26, 1986. He graduated from New Palestine High School in 1973 and graduated from IUPUI with his Bachelor’s Degree from IU. David received his Master of Divinity from United Theological Seminary of Dayton, Ohio. He was admitted into membership of the South Indiana Conference, The United Methodist Church, in 1978 and was ordained an Elder. He also served as chaplain for Goodwill Industries from 1987-1984. In 1993, He became a volunteer chaplain for the Culver Union Hospital in Crawfordsville, Ind., and enjoyed it so much that he completed training to become the head Chaplain for the hospital (now known as Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health Crawfordsville) in 2000 to 2008. Survivors include: his wife, Debbie Low; mother, Julia Low of Greenfield; daughter, Breanne (Chad) Anderson of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; and three grandchildren. David was preceded in death by his father, Richard Low in 2003. A memorial service was held March 28 at Christ’s United Methodist Church in Crawfordsville with Pastors Chris Renick and Curtis Hurley officiating. Burial followed in Greenfield at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.

Mayfield, James James Mayfield, 86, of Mitchell, a retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, died March 18, 2014 at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center. Born June 13, 1927, in Georgetown, he was the son of Thomas Franklin and Nancy Pearl (Wilson) Mayfield. He married Wilma Lynn Sharp March 14, 1953. He graduated from Georgetown High School in 1946 and was a graduate of Asbury College. He served 25 churches in the South Indiana District of The United Methodist Church. He had been a member of Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F&AM and was past master of the Brazil Masonic Lodge No. 264 F&AM. He belonged to the York Rite, Order of Purple Cross and York Cross of Honor, Indianapolis White Shrine, and was a former member of the Mitchell Rotary Club. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post No. 250. Survivors include: wife, Wilma Mayfield of Mitchell; daughters, Margaret Pearl Shorter of Brazil, Rebecca Lynn Proffitt of Mitchell, Paula Marie Kerilein of Vass, N.C.; six grandchildren; and ten great- grandchildren. A memorial service was held March 23, at Jacob Finger United Methodist Church. The Revs. Eric Kersey and Tom True officiated.

Miller, Elvin Rev. Elvin L. Miller, 91, died April 26, 2014, in Fort Wayne. Born in Portland, Ind., Elvin was a United Methodist pastor for 42 years. He knew from a young age that he wanted to serve God. Elvin graduated from Burris High School in Muncie, continued his education at Earlham College and completed his master’s from Northwestern University, where he met the love of his life, Tracy Roper. Elvin developed and implemented the continuing education program for the United Methodist North Indiana Conference. Surviving are his daughter, Cathy Kuhwede of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter Carol (John) Dunfee of Morgantown; son Mark (Lori) Miller of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren Elvin was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Theresa "Tracy" Miller; parents, Galen and Mary Miller; son-in-law, Eric Kuhwede; and sister, Mildred Loundsbury. A memorial service was held May 3, 2014, at First Wayne Street United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne, and entombment was in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Miller, Mary Mary H. Miller, 83, of Indianapolis, a retired Local Pastor of the Indiana Conference, died on February 6, 2014. She was born January 17, 1931, in Sylvania, Ga., to William S. and Clara M. (Striggles) Lawton. Mary graduated from Fort Valley State College in Georgia, University of Indianapolis and University of Wisconsin in Madison, with degrees in fine arts and banking. Survivors include: children, Everett T. (Loretta Cheairs) Lewis, Claryce V. (Cornell) Burris, Sybil J. Hannon, Rev. LaTrelle E. ( Rev. Marion) Easterling; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Miller; two sisters and three brothers. "Pastor Mary" known to many, and "Ms. Mary" to others, became a local licensed pastor in 1997, serving first at Faith United Methodist Church for five years, and then at Grace United Methodist Church for another seven years before retiring in 2009. Pastor Mary was a member of the Lawrence United Methodist Church (Bell Choir) and previously belonged to University United Methodist Church (Chancel Choir, UMW). She served on various boards in her life, including: General Board of Pensions, Metro Ministries, Conference Council on Ministries, Brightwood Community Center, to name just a few. A memorial service was held February 15, 2014, at Lawrence United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Washington Park East Cemetery.

Morrical, Harold Harold Morrical of Franklin, Ind., 84, a retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, died Sept. 4, 2013, at the Franklin United Methodist Community. He was born in Jeffersonville on Aug. 29, 1929, to Nova and Raymond Morrical. Harold worked as a high voltage construction electrician before serving two years in the U.S. Army and receiving degrees from Indiana Central College, Indiana State University and United Theological Seminary. He was an EMT, a volunteer in mission in six countries, and the overseas coordinator for Operation Classroom in Sierra Leone in West Africa. Survivors include: his wife, Virginia; four children, Tony (Annemarie), Jim (Libby), Carol (Steve) Highsmith, Janet Morrical; and six grandchildren. A memorial service was held in Wright Chapel at the Franklin United Methodist Community Sept. 14, 2013.

Nickles, James James Nickles, 73, of Frankfort, formerly of Elwood, a retired local pastor of the Indiana Conference, died Monday, June 10, 2013, in his home surrounded by family following a valiant battle with cancer for more than two years. He was born November 1, 1939, in Kirkland, the son of Samuel F. and Helen L. (Myers) Nickles. On April 10, 1977, he married his second wife, Ella M. Myers, who survives. Following his graduation from Wendell L. Willkie High School in Elwood, Jim served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1963 stateside during the Vietnam War. He earned his theological certification through the Course of Study Seminary affiliated with The United Methodist Church. Jim was a member of the Elwood Ministerial Association; former Scout leader in Elwood for many years; served with the Salvation Army in Frankfort; former member of the Frankfort Moose Lodge; and former member of the Fowlerton Lions Club. Jim also had a passion for mission trips. Survivors include: wife, Ella M. Nickles of Frankfort; children, Tim (Ann) Nickles of Arcanum, Ohio, Amber (Coty) Robey of Frankfort and Elizabeth Nickles of Frankfort; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many foster children. He was preceded in death by three children, Martisha Parker, Anna Tarter and Earl Childs; and a grandson. Jim had two memorial services. The first service was June 13, 2013, at St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Frankfort with Pastors Jake Fisher and Mike Lawson officiating. A second funeral service was conducted June 14, 2013, at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with District Superintendent Michelle Cobb, Rev. Chris Dare, and Rev. Glen Davis officiating. Burial followed in Forrestville Cemetery in Summitville.

Pearson, Howard Howard Pearson of Muncie, 92, a retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at Westminster Village. He was born August 17, 1921, in Blackford County. He was the son of Harry C. and Luria (Baker) Pearson and was a 1939 graduate of Roll High School. He was a 1951 graduate of Taylor University and continued his service to God, attending Asbury Seminary in Kentucky and the United Methodist Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. On June 13, 1948, he married Relda Needler in Hartford City. His ministry called him to serve as pastor of the E.U.B. Church in Kingman, Ind., the Trinity E.U.B. Church in Portland, Ind., and the Swayzee Street United Methodist Church in Marion, Ind. He retired after 32 years of service, 26 of them in Marion. He was a faithful and involved member of Union Chapel Ministries. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Relda; son, Tim (Jane) Pearson, of Grafton, Ohio; daughter, Karen (Darrell) Hofer of Muncie; one grandson, Erik Hofer of Indianapolis; a step-granddaughter; and three step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Cecil and Bernal. Funeral services were November 4, 2013, at Union Chapel Ministries in Muncie, with Pastor Gregg Parris presiding. Burial followed in Union Cemetery, Eaton.

Robinson, Kennard Kennard Robinson of Syracuse, Ind., 86, retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, died Oct. 18, 2013. He was born May 14, 1927, in Holland, Ohio, to Don and Ida (Rugar) Robinson. He graduated from Crown College in Minnesota. He earned a B.D. at Bethel Theological Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. He went on to earn his M.Div. at Evangelical Theological Seminary in Naperville, Ill. In 1952, he married Rugh Strohm, who preceded him in death in 2007. He received the Paul Harris Award from Rotary International. He was also a licensed pilot and a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. Survivors include: sister, Marilyn (Gordon) Simpson of Toledo, Ohio; two nieces, Sherrie (Mike) Turner of Elgin, Ill., and Kellie (Jim) Fuelling of Toledo, Ohio; one great-niece; and three great-nephews. A memorial service was held Oct.26 at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse. Burial followed at the Syracuse Cemetery.

Thomas, Jicelyn Rev. Jicelyn I. Thomas died at the age of 62 after a long battle with lupus and its complications. She was born March 15, 1951, in Mobile, Ala. She received a B.A. from Cleveland State University, a Fulbright Fellowship, Master of Divinity from Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., and was working toward a doctorate at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., when her illness progressed to a stage that made continuing impossible. Jicelyn loved to continually learn, travel, stay in touch with friends, sing and listen to gospel music. Two of her great passions were community outreach and mentoring children. When she lived in Evansville, she participated in the community-based Patchwork Central. While attending St. John United Methodist Church, she organized a children's choir. As a minister at Broadway United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, she was a moving force in the Jubilee Summer Program for neighborhood children, a program still going strong. A Celebration of Jicelyn's life was held October 12, 2013, at Methodist Temple in Evansville. Survivors include her mother, Wilma Thomas; sister, Beverly Thomas of Evansville; adopted sisters, Karen Horth Powers and Debbie Vawter of Indianapolis, along with many friends.

Trumbauer, Clyde Clyde A. Trumbauer of Elkhart, 92, a retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, died Jan. 6, 2014, at Greenleaf Health Center. He was born August 27, 1921, in Black Hawk County, Iowa, to Henry and Cora Trumbauer. On April 26, 1945, he married Joyce Burtner. Brother Clyde, as he was known, served in the U.S. Navy in World War II as a medical corpsman in the Pacific from 1942-1945. After returning home, he graduated from Taylor University and Asbury Theological Seminary. When the bishop announced a critical need for chaplains in the military, he enlisted in the Navy to serve his country a second time from 1954-1958 as a Navy chaplain. He truly enjoyed his service in the Navy and spent many years thereafter in the Reserves. He also enjoyed participating in the camping program for the United Methodist youth throughout northern Indiana, and led numerous work camps, taking persons all over the nation to perform construction projects at various churches, including clean-up after natural disasters. Survivors include: wife, Joyce; daughters, Donna (Dr. Christian) Losch of Elkhart and Rhonda (Lanie) Creech of Roanoke; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held January 11 at Calvary United Methodist Church in Elkhart.

VanHorn, Linda Linda VanHorn of Lyndhurst, NJ, 53, an Elder of the Indiana Conference on Incapacity (Disability) Leave, died June 30, 2013. Linda graduated from Seton Hall University (B.A. Mathematics) and received her Master of Divinity degree at Duke Divinity School. She served on the Conference Board of Camping and the Conference Board of Church and Society. She went on Disability Leave in 1994 and moved to South Bend where she affiliated with Broadway Christian Parish UMC. She became active in the parish teaching confirmation classes and developed the Children's Church program among many other acts of service. She also volunteered at AIDS Ministries Board of Directors from 1994 until she moved back to New Jersey in 2008. She was with AIDS Assist of North Indiana, and served as the secretary of the board most of those years. Her life was spent serving others in the church and society. Survivors include her sister, Gloria (Roger) Bianco; two nieces; and a nephew. A memorial service was held July 6, at the Lyndhurst United Methodist Church in Lyndhurst, N.J. Interment followed in the George Washington Memorial Park.

Wake, Clyde Clyde Wake, 87, of Loogootee, a retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, died July 19, 2013. Survivors include daughter, Cathie L. (Gerald) Jones of Jasper; son Robert D. (Mary Wake) of Washington; stepson Mark Eichmiller of Corydon; two stepdaughters, Sue Flinn of New Albany, and Elaine Watham of Loogootee; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by this first wife, Edna (Gibson) Wake and his second wife, Laverne (Greene) (Eichmiller) Wake. A memorial service was held July 24, 2013, at Loogootee United Methodist Church, with burial following at the Goodwill Cemetery in Loogootee.

Walls, Charles Jack Charles "Jack" Walls of Indianapolis, 93, retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, died July 24, 2013. He was born to Charles Ancil and Mary Maysell Denney Walls on June 30, 1920, in Indianapolis. Rev. Walls received his higher education at Indiana University, University of Evansville and Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. In early years, he was an evangelist and led preaching missions in Indiana and Illinois. He was in radio broadcasting in Princeton, Ind., for three years. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He acted in degree in Scottish Rite Cathedral in Indianapolis, Terre Haute and South Bend. Survivors include: daughters, Sally Walls of Houston, Texas, and Maribeth Walls of Indianapolis; one grandson and daughter-in-law, Wendy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Shirley Walls, who died March 6, 2012. A memorial service was held July 27, at Meridian Street United Methodist Church in Indianapolis. Burial followed at Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan, Ind.

Wilson, L. Michael L. Michael Wilson, 64, of Lafayette, a retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, died Friday, March 14, 2014, at his home. He was born July 7, 1949 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Homer L. and Ruby (Abney) Wilson. Mike was a 1967 graduate of Woodward High School in Cincinnati, a 1971 graduate of Marion College (now Indiana Wesleyan University) Marion; and in 1975 he received his Master of Divinity from the United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio. He married Ellen (Berghorn) Hickman at the Main Street United Methodist Church in Peru on May 15, 2004. Mike served churches throughout northern Indiana beginning in 1971. He served as Program Coordinator for Miami County Tobacco Awareness Group since May 1, 2005. He enjoyed playing tennis, golf, guitar and piano. He especially loved singing and playing music with Ellen. Survivors include wife, Ellen Wilson of Lafayette; father, Homer L. Wilson of Cincinnati; four children, Ryan (Sara) Hart of Fort Wayne, Jennifer (Ali) Mohandespour of Noblesville, Jonathan (Alyson) Wilson of LaVergne, Tenn., and David Wilson of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; three step-children, Benjamin (Heather) Hickman of Leesburg, Va., Jennifer (David) Huser of Westfield, and Timothy (Erin) Hickman of LaFontaine; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Crystal Wilson, who died in 2007. A memorial service was held March 22 at Main Street UMC in Peru with Pastor Dave Scifres officiating. Burial was at Falls Cemetery, Wabash.

Wright, Lloyd Lloyd Wright of New Albany, 86, a retired Elder and former District Superintendent of the Indiana Conference, died Jan. 13, 2014 at his farm home. He graduated from Taylor University and Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. He received an honorary doctorate of Divinity from DePauw University. He served the United Methodist Church as a local pastor, directed the retired ministers fund, council on ministry and then as District Superintendent. He also served 12 years on the board of Global Ministries and 30 years as an Indiana State Police chaplain. Survivors include: his wife, Marie (Lamb); sons, David (Martha) Wright of New Albany, Terry (Lisa) Wright of Marietta, Ga.; daughters, Marilyn Dorton (Darrel) of New Albany and Marlene Russell of Evansville; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great- great grandchild. A memorial service was held Jan. 17 at Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Home in New Albany. Interment followed at SCI Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany. An additional memorial service was held Jan. 18 at Trinity United Methodist Church in New Albany.

Baker, Waneda Waneda Baker of Indianapolis, 93, widow of the late Pastor Robert Baker, a Local Pastor of the Indiana Conference, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013. A memorial service was held Saturday, Nov. 23 at Barnes United Methodist Church in Indianapolis with interment at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis. Survivors include: four daughters, Linda Hawkins (Thomas), Jeanetta Moore, JoAnn Crain (Thomas J.) and Judy Thomas (Michael); two sons, Albert Baker (Teresa), and Robert Baker (Patricia); and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Bastain, Berniece Berniece Eleanor Bastain, 87, of Jasonville, died Friday, June 21, 2013, in Greene County General Hospital, Linton. She was born Feb. 5, 1926, in Rural Greene County to Elmer Blanton and Pearl (Wolf) Blanton. Berniece married Rev. James E. Bastain on July 7, 1946. He died January 17, 2012. Berniece was a 1942 graduate of Midland High School. She worked at Jasonville Hardware and Furniture Company and the Inter-board Council of The United Methodist Church in Bloomington. She was a member of the Nine Mile United Methodist Church. Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, James E. and Margaret Bastain II of Jasonville; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, Christopher Bastain and Dustin Bastain, Brittany Rynard and Kathleen Rynard; and four great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother. A memorial service was held June 29, 2013, at the Nine Mile United Methodist Church with Pastor John Pierce officiating. Interment was at K of P Cemetery in Hymera.

Beason, Michael Michael Beason, 69, husband of Pastor Debbie Beason serving Rolling Prairie United Methodist Church, died February 25, 2014, at Community Hospital East. He was born April 1, 1944, in Hancock County, to Glenn and Madge (Scott) Beason. He was a 1963 graduate of Hancock Central High School, served in the Army National Guard until 1972 and married Debbie (Toler) Beason on June 17, 1972. Michael retired in 2008 as a mechanic and locksmith. Survivors include his wife, Debbie of Rolling Prairie and a brother, Tom (Sue) Beason of Carthage and sister, Joyce Wilson. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Rebecca Flegler. Graveside services were held March 6, 2014, at Curry’s Chapel Cemetery in Greenfield.

Bennett, Evelyn Evelyn Marie Bennett, 86, of Pierceton, widow of Rev. James V. Bennett, died December 23, 2013, at her home. She was born May 26, 1927, in Bowling Green, Ky., to James H. and Mammie E. (Young) Miller. She grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from Washington High School. On September 5, 1948, in Indianapolis, she married Rev. James V. “Jim” Bennett, who preceded her on September 5, 2007. She was a member of the North Webster United Methodist Church and the Women’s Mission Fellowship. She is survived by: two daughters, Karen (Jay) Harris of Pierceton and Marilyn (Doug) Akers of Lebanon; two sons, Mark (Susan) Bennett of Richmond, Va., Tim (Colleen) Bennett of Omaha, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great- grandchildren. Burton, Patricia Patricia Burton of Franklin, Ind., widow of Rev. Dr. William Burton, a deceased Elder of the Indiana Conference, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013. She was born July 12, 1924, in Bartlesville, Okla. She was a graduate of Shortridge High School and Indiana University. She was an Alpha Omicron Pi at I.U. and kept in contact with her sisters. She was a lifelong United Methodist and involved herself in many charitable works, including the PEO. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William N. Burton. She is survived by four children, Daniel and Diane (Dee) Jackson and Larry and Dick Burton; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held Sunday, Sept. 29, in Wright Chapel at the Franklin United Methodist Community Franklin, Ind., with the Rev. John Eley officiating.

Coahran, Beverly Beverly Coahran, 75, widow of the late Rev. John Alan Coahran, deceased clergy member of the Indiana Conference, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, in her home. Bev was born September 22, 1937, in Arcola, Ill., to the late William K. and Elsie (McDuffey) Bryant. She was a member of Silver Street United Methodist Church in New Albany. Cremation was chosen following Bev’s wishes. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon. Survivors include her sons, Brian L. Coahran (Carla), David A. Coahran (Tracy); and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and son John.

Dawson, Marian Marian Frances Dawson of Warren, 96, widow of the late Rev. Russell Dawson, deceased clergy member of the Indiana Conference, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at Heritage Pointe in Warren. She was born Oct. 24, 1916, in Akron, Ohio, to Robert George and Florence Elizabeth Diffenderfer Ream. She married Russell Edwin Dawson on Aug. 28, 1948. Her husband preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Wadsworth (Ohio) High School, earned a Bachelor of Theology from Malone College, in Canton, Ohio; a Bachelor of Arts from Olivet Nazarene University, in Kankakee, Ill.; and a Master of Science in secondary education from Indiana University, Fort Wayne. She taught English and library science in junior and senior high schools. Survivors include: sons, Russell (Linda) Dawson, Jr., of Osceola, and Robert (Nancy) Dawson, of Vernon, Conn.; daughter, Mary (Robert) Dockter, of Anchorage, Alaska; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held Oct. 5 in the Applegate Chapel at the Heritage Pointe retirement home in Warren, and interment followed at I.O.O.F. Cemetery Rochester.

Frazier, Marcia Marcia Frazier of Indianapolis and formerly of Rushville and Nashville, 71, widow of the late Rev. E. David Frazier, deceased member of the Indiana Conference, died Monday, March 24, 2014. She was a graduate of Indiana University with a Masters degree in Education. She was an English teacher in Hamilton Southeastern and Rushville School Systems retiring in 1990. Marcia was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and Alpha Phi Sorority. Survivors include: daughter, Kim (Kevin) Layton of Noblesville; one grandson; and one great-grandson. A memorial service was held March 28, 2014 at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Mortuary in Indianapolis.

Gaus, Jessie Jessica Gaus, widow of Rev. John Gaus, a deceased Elder of the Indiana Conference, died Monday, July 8, 2013, in Ecuador, where she had been living with one of her daughters. She was born on September 15, 1922, in Hermine, Pa. She was the first child of Russell Kane Armor and Ruth Stares, both school teachers. Jessica was awarded a full scholarship to Syracuse University on the basis of a vocal audition and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with a major in music. She was a life-long member of the music sorority Sigma Alpha Iota. After graduation from Syracuse, she moved to New York City and performed as a singing actress in Broadway shows for several years. She married John Gaus in 1946 (they were married 67 years.) She devoted her life to raising her four children and supporting her husband, John, through his many career changes and moves. Survivors include: Kathie Gaus-Woollen, Wilmington, Del.; Donna Gaus, Malacatos, Ecuador; Evan Gaus, Temple, Texas and Paula Turk of Elkhart, Ind.; and five grandchildren. A musical memorial service was held at St. Marks United Methodist Church in Bloomington August 17.

Malinda Jane Glidden Malinda Jane (Smith) Glidden, 51, a Yorktown resident, died at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Indianapolis on December 30, 2013. She was born in Muncie, April 6, 1962, the daughter of Jerry A. and Marilyn Myers Smith. She worked as an administrative assistant for the Daleville United Methodist Church where she was a member, but also attended Honey Creek United Methodist Church. She had worked for several years at Comprehensive Mental Health. Survivors include: husband of 23 years, Pastor Timothy Glidden; daughter, Amanda (Eric) Lumpkin) of Lafayette; and her parents Jerry and Marilyn Smith of Muncie. A Celebration of Life service was held January 4, 2014, at the Daleville United Methodist Church with Revs. Steve Graves and Glenn Perkins officiating. Burial followed in Elm Ridge Cemetery in Muncie.

Gotts, Shirley Shirley Gotts of Madison, Ind., 79, wife of Pastor Edward Gotts, supply pastor to Dupont United Methodist Church, died Feb. 13, 2014. A memorial service was held Feb. 18, at North United Methodist Church in Madison, with burial in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Survivors include: her husband, Dr. Edward E. Gotts; two sons, Gary Gotts of Madison and Gregory Gotts of Oakland, Calif.; one daughter, Kimberly Benfield of Norfolk, Va.; five grandchildren; one great- grandchild. She was preceded in death by her son, Grant Gotts, who died in 1963.

Haskins, Dolores Dolores Haskins of Sellersburg, wife of the Rev. Jack Barnett Haskins, a retired Elder and former District Superintendent of the Indiana Conference, died April 7, 2014. She also was the mother of the Rev. Peter Haskins, an ordained United Church of Christ pastor who serves the Bicknell Asbury Chapel United Methodist Church. She was born Nov. 13, 1926, in Bridgeport, Ill., the daughter of Rev. William Wilford and Mayme (Longest) Denbo. She was a minister’s wife and a homemaker. She and her husband invested their lives in the ministry of the Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church. Survivors include: husband, Rev. Jack B. Haskins, whom she married July 28, 1961, in Los Angeles, Calif.; daughter, Rebekah (James) Clayton of Sellersburg; son, Peter (Emily Kirk) Haskins of Vincennes; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A memorial service was held April 11, at Christ United Methodist Church in Washington. Officiating was Rev. Peter Denbo Haskins, son of Mrs. Haskins. Rev. Ken Wells, pastor of Washington Christ Church assisted. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery with Rev. Donald Riggs, nephew of Mrs. Haskins assisting.

Hillenburg, Betty Betty Jean Burnside DuBois Hillenburg, 91, and widow of Reverend Payl DuBois of Brazil, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Betty was a member of the Freetown United Methodist Church and a homemaker. Born Jan. 5, 1923, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Doyle and Laura (Taylor) Brown. She had been married to Ernest Burnside, who died in 1953; Rev. Paul DuBois, who died in 1984; and Ancil Hillenburg, who died in 2002. Survivors include three children, Jetta Greek, Robert (Stephanie) Burnside and Laverne Patrick; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and one son, Rodman Burnside. A memorial service was held February 25, 2014, at Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home, Brownstown, with the Rev. Frank Smith officiating. Burial was at Freetown Cemetery.

Kehlhofer, Diana Lee Diana L. (Ruth) Kehlhofer, 63, of Lafayette, died December 4, 2013, at Signature Healthcare. Born May 29, 1950, in Danville, Ind., she was the daughter of the late A. Daniel and Mary Jean (Shearer) Ruth. She was a graduate of West Lafayette High School and attended Purdue University. She graduated in 1976 from Taylor University with a degree in Christian Education. She worked in Christian education at Delphi United Methodist Church in 1976 and Kendallville United Methodist Church in 1977. She then worked in Christian Education at Congress Street United Methodist Church from 1978 to 1982. Diana married Rev. William C. "Bill" Kehlhofer on December 31, 1983, in Florida and he preceded her in death on June 18, 2001. She returned to Lafayette in 1989. Diana was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and enjoyed needlework, ceramics, scrap-booking and cooking. Survivors include: son, Daniel Carl Kehlhofer of Indianapolis; her beloved step-mother, Betty Ruth (husband, Horace "Skip" Jackson) of West Lafayette; brother, A. Daniel Ruth (wife, Elfi) of LaPorte; and two sisters, Debra Brewer (husband, Brian) and Donna Stapleton, both of West Lafayette. A graveside service was held December 6, 2013, at Independence Cemetery in Independence, with Pastor Paul Arnold officiating. A memorial service was held December 22, 2013, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lafayette, with Pastor Paul Arnold and her nephew, Cory Brewer, officiating.

Kivett, Christina Christina Kivett of Kokomo and lifelong resident of Coatesville, 98, widow of the late Rev. Wayne Kivett, a clergy member of the Indiana Conference, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at Fairmont Rehabilitation Center, Kokomo. She was born in Coatesville July 4, 1915, the daughter of the late William and Minnie (Harmon) Walton. She was a lifelong resident of Coatesville until her last few years when she moved to Kokomo because of failing health. On Feb. 11, 1940, she married Wayne Kivett, who preceded her in death on June 2, 2005. She attended and graduated from Amo High School, where she was valedictorian for her graduating class. She is survived by: son, Lawrence (Marcia) Kivett; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Funeral services were conducted January 6, at Bousley-Hays Funeral Home, Coatesville, with Danny Sanders officiating, followed by a memorial service and burial followed in Coatesville Cemetery.

Kraft, Virginia Virginia Katherine Kraft, 84, and widow of the Rev. L. Kenneth Kraft, a clergy member of the Indiana Conference, died August 21, 2013, in her new home in Woodland Park, Colo. Virginia was born on May 23, 1929 in Lafayette to George and Geneva McDoniels. In 1949, she married Harvey Cable; they separated in 1973. In 1974, she married Louis Kenneth Kraft (deceased in 2011). Virginia worked for the Lafayette School Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 1987. She was extremely talented musically and was both organist and later, youth choir director for Grace Church from 1964 to 1973. During this period, Virginia created many contemporary worship services, which incorporated instruments and choreography and introduced them to a congregation that had never seen the like before. The Grace Church youth choir travelled the Midwest for several years, drawing many to delight in these services. Survivors include: son Randy Cable and daughter-in-law Carol Forsberg; step-sons, Randy and Tim Kraft; and nine grandchildren. In accordance with her wishes, Virginia was cremated and there was no funeral service held.

Landrey, Ellen Louise Ellen Louise (Jarrett) Landrey of Warren , 102, widow of the Rev. Everett F. Landrey, clergy member of the Indiana Conference, died Dec. 20, 2013, at Heritage Point in Warren. Ellen was the daughter of Harry C. and Edna Davis Jarrett and born May 19, 1911, in Vernon Twp. She was a graduate of Fortville High School and held under graduate and graduate degrees from Ball State University. She was an elementary teacher for 54½ years, having taught most of those years in the Fortville/Mt. Vernon Schools. She was a 92-year member of the Fortville United Methodist Church, where she served as organist, Sunday school teacher and youth leader. Survivors include many nieces and nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. A Celebration of life was held December 27 at the Fortville United Methodist Church in Fortville.

Mikesell, Dave Dave Mikesell of Marion, Ind., 80, husband of Pastor Carolyn Mikesell of Richland Chapel United Methodist Church in the North Central District, died March 21, 2014. He was born to the late Oliver and Louise (Zimmerman) Mikesell. He married Carolyn Catron on October 2, 1965. He retired in 2006 after 30 years of service from General Motors where he worked as a millwright. David was a United States Air Force veteran. He was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles. Survivors include: wife, Carolyn Mikesell of Marion; sons, Christopher A. (Jeanine) Mikesell of Marion and Eric D. Mikesell of Marion; and three grandchildren. A memorial service was held March 28, at Richland Chapel United Methodist Church in Converse with the Rev. David Chinn officiating. Burial followed in Grant Memorial Park in Marion.

Miller, Theresa Theresa ‘Tracy’ Miller of Fort Wayne, 90, wife of the Rev. Elvin Miller, retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, died Jan. 31, 2014, at Memory Care in Fort Wayne. Born in Hamilton, Texas, she graduated from Southwestern University and was listed on the Who’s Who of American University. Theresa also received her master’s from Northwestern University in New Testament studies and received her teaching degree from Ball State University. During her college career she was an accomplished tennis player. She taught school at Kekionga Middle for 20 years in Ft. Wayne and worked with students in the Project Score Program. She was a longtime member of First Wayne Street United Methodist Church. Survivors include: her husband of 67 years, the Rev. Elvin Miller of Fort Wayne; daughters, Cathy Kuhwede of Colorado Springs, Colo., Carol (John) Dunfee of Morgantown; son, Mark (Lori) Miller of Ft. Wayne; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held Feb. 3, at First Wayne Street United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne. Entombment was at the Greenlawn Memorial Park in Fort Wayne.

Nisley, Idamae Idamae Nisley of Goshen, 84, wife of retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, the Rev. Omer L. Nisley, died Oct. 25, 2013. She was born September 5, 1929, to S. Hugh and Esther (Myers) Woods. She married Omer L. Nisley in September 1976, at St. Mark’s UMC in Goshen. She attended Goshen High School and worked at Johnson Controls for 35 years until retiring in 1994. She was a longtime member of St. Mark’s UMC. Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Omer L. Nisley of Goshen; daughter, Linda (Pat) Harrington of Elkhart; six sons, Douglas (Cathy) Everingham of Wichita, Kan., Stephen (Linda) Everingham of Rolling Prairie, Ron (Pam) Everingham and Richard (Kim) Everingham, both of Goshen, Phil (Mary) Everingham of Elkhart, and Greg (Carola) Everingham of Sheridan, Ill.; three stepdaughters, Elaine (Kevin) Kinion of Port Orange, Fla., Evelyn Stone of Austin, Texas, and Tracy (Doug) Hoogenboom of Middlebury; stepson, Todd Yoder of Denver, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held October 28 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Goshen, with the Rev. Dick Rinearson officiating. Burial followed in Oakridge Cemetery in Goshen.

Nolting, Ruth Ruth Nolting of Linton, Ind., 92, wife of the Rev. Harold O. Nolting, retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, died Dec. 4, 2013, at Greene Country General Hospital in Linton. She was born in Coal City on June 15, 1921, the daughter of Elmer William and Anneta Ellen (Moyer) Cooksey. She was a 1939 graduate of Switz City High School. She worked beside her husband as a pastor's wife for 60 years. She was a talented quilter and seamstress and loved to entertain in her home. She helped organize the women's societies and enjoyed helping in mission work camps. She was a member of the Nine Mile Methodist Church since her childhood. Survivors include: her husband of 74 years, the Rev. Harold O. Nolting of Linton; daughters, Sharon Osborne and Beth (Ted) Rhodes, both of Linton; sons, Jerry Nolting of Indianapolis and Billy J. (Pam) Nolting of New Albany; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant son, Harold W. Nolting. A memorial service was held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton Dec. 7, 2013. Burial followed at Switz City Cemetery.

Pflugh, Doris Doris LaVon Pflugh, 92, of Frankfort, died Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Wesley Manor Retirement Community in Frankfort. She was born August 15, 1920, in Lake City, Fla., the daughter of Amza and Elizabeth (Cripe) Price. On February 2, 1943, Doris married Virgle Ray Abbett; he preceded her in death March 27, 1966. She then married Rev. Frederick H. Pflugh on December 25, 1971; he preceded her in death April 28, 2000. Doris achieved her bachelor’s in education in 1942 from Manchester College. She taught home economics, physical education, chemistry, biology and driver’s education at several high schools over her 32 year career before retiring in 1978. Doris’ home church was Tracy United Methodist Church in Hamlet; she more recently attended St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Frankfort and services at Wesley Manor. Surviving Doris are one daughter, Yvonne Dorsett of Spotsylvania, Virginia; one son, Louis Abbett of Valparaiso; six grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, Doris is preceded in death by one son, Bernard L. E. Abbett in 1962. A memorial service in Doris’ honor was held at Tracy United Methodist Church in Hamlet.

Simpson, Letah Letah Simpson of Frankfort, Ind., 97, widow of the Rev. William James Simpson, a clergy member of the Indiana Conference, died July 11, 2013. She was born December 12, 1915, in Corunna, Mich., the daughter of Roy and Margie Gerardy Rose. On October 3, 1940, she married William James Simpson; he preceded her in death May 7, 2000. Letah graduated from Owosso (Michigan) High School and received further training at Malone College, Kletzing College, Indiana Wesleyan, and Indiana University. Survivors include one son, Roy (Linda) Simpson; two daughters, Marleta (Larry) Newberg and Linda (Harry) Jones; nine grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A memorial service was held July 13, 2013, in the Amanda Reid Memorial Chapel at Wesley Manor in Frankfort, with Pastors Jake Fisher and Barbara Kinsler officiating. Burial followed at Green Lawn Cemetery in Frankfort.

Stapp, Reba Reba Stapp of Terre Haute (formerly of Brazil and Jasonville), 86, wife of Rev. Thomas Stapp, a retired Elder, died December 5, 2013. She was the oldest of 13 children born in Bow, Ky., to Buford and Pauline (Shelley) Bow. She enjoyed quilting and needle work. A memorial service was held December 10 in Brazil with Pastor Jeff Mair officiating. Survivors include her husband, Rev. Thomas Stapp; three children: Carol (Forrest) Crowe, Steve (Jan) Stapp of Terre Haute and Gale (Jeff) Mair of Indianapolis; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Stirsman, Virginia Virginia Stirsman of Indianapolis, 88, widow of the late Rev. Andrew Stirsman, who retired in 1990, died Aug. 19, 2013. She was born November 1, 1924, in Dixon, Ky., to Virginia Ellen Cottingham and James Asher Jones. Virginia worked in Evansville in the 1940's for Sears Department Store, was also a homemaker for many years, and then later working outside the home for many years as church secretary. Survivors include six children, Virginia Ann Stirsman, Beth (Denny) Steeb, David (Micki) Stirsman, Paul Stirsman, Mary (Brian) Magazine, Jane (David) Jones; and seven grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service was held on Aug. 24, 2013, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood, Ind.

Strong, Gladys Gladys Strong of Swiss Village, Berne, and formerly of Bryant, 101, widow of the Rev. Lewis Strong, clergy member of the Indiana Conference, died Jan. 29, 2014. She was born in Whitley County, April 24, 1912, the daughter of James and Ottie (Duglay) Leitch. She was married November 27, 1930, to Rev. Lewis Strong, and he died January 14, 1997. She worked for Richard’s Restaurants and General Electric in Fort Wayne and was a homemaker. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Portland. Survivors include: three sons, Paul Strong of Bryant, Robert Strong of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Don Strong of Berne; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held Feb. 2, 2014, at the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland with Joe Hines presiding. Burial followed in the Riverview Cemetery in Churubusco.

Taggart, Pauline Pauline Taggart of Fort Wayne, 96, widow of the late Rev. Darrel Taggart, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014. She was born Jan. 4, 1918, in Thayer, Mo., to the Late Fred Farwell and Minnie (Kellams) Farwell. A memorial service was held Jan. 31, 2014, at First Wayne Street United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne. Survivors include: sons, John Paul (Jennifer) of Newburg, Pa., and Darryl Dean Taggart of Duluth, Minn.; daughter-in- law, Dixie Taggart of Leo; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Thomas, Delores Delores Thomas of Goshen, 83, wife of the Rev. Jack K. Thomas, retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, died February 26, 2014. She was born to Cleveland and Mary (Mains) Handley in Danville, Ill., December 22, 1930, the twelfth of 13 children. On June 13, 1954, she married Jack K. Thomas. Realizing her childhood dream of becoming a Registered Nurse, she graduated from Lakeview School of Nursing in 1953. She was class president, valedictorian, and had one of the highest scores ever recorded on the Illinois Registered Nurse State Board Examination. She and Jack were missionaries of the church in Sierra Leone, Africa, for more than 12 years. Delores maintained a medical clinic for women and children in a part of the country far from any other medical help, treating thousands of patients, mostly women and children. Survivors include: her husband, the Rev. Jack K. Thomas; children, Stanton (Judy) Thomas of Syracuse, and Tonda (Howard) Langdon of Goshen; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren. A celebration of life memorial service was held March 15, at First United Methodist Church in Goshen.

Wesler, Brenda Brenda Sue Scott Wesler, 57, of New Palestine, died June 9, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Brenda was born in Richmond, August 9, 1955, to Elmer and Blondina Marjean Scott. She was raised near Eldorado, Ohio, by her mother and step-father, Walter E. Ruby. On May 12, 1972, Brenda married her high school sweetheart, Mark D. Wesler of New Paris, Ohio, at St. Paul UMC in New Paris. She graduated from National Trail HS in 1974. Although Brenda did not marry a pastor, she became a pastor’s wife when Mark entered the ministry. She developed and started children’s worship in the churches Mark served. She also directed VBS and children’s Christmas musicals. She was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church. Her jobs included working in the TOTS program at Westfield-Washington Schools in Westfield, the Area 9 Agency on Aging in Richmond, and various doctors’ offices over the years. Brenda was a true servant of God, always putting the needs of others before her own needs. Survivors include: husband, Mark; daughters, Marci (Trent) Theobald of Brownsburg., Candace (Elijah) Williams Adams of Franklin, Tenn., and Jocelyn (Eric) Fowler of New Palestine; and grandchildren Colby and Nicaeli Theobald and Jesse and Gracie Williams. A Celebration of Life was held June 13, 2013, at Doan and Mills funeral home in Richmond. Burial followed in Spring Lawn Cemetery in New Paris.

Wilks, Carmen Carmen Justice Wilks of Warren, 79, widow of the Rev. Donald E. Wilks, a clergy member of the Indiana Conference, died June 24, 2013. She was born in Marion November 12, 1933 to Enos and Olive (Heal) Justice. She earned a Bbachelor's degree from Taylor University in Upland, and a master's degree from St. Francis College in Fort Wayne. For many years she taught school at Adams Central in Monroe. She was a well-known writer for the Berne Tri- Weekly, where she chronicled the lives of many interesting residents of Adams County. Survivors include: four children, Doug (Tia) Wilks, Brad (Gardi) Wilks, Ron (Dawn) Wilks and Pam (Michael) Walcott; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held June 30, at the Monroe United Methodist Church in Monroe.

Willbanks, Amanda “Ruth” Amanda “Ruth” Robinson Willbanks, 90, died January 27, 2014, at Lynd House in Muncie. Her husband and children were with her. Ruth was born in Muncie October 13, 1923, to Samuel E. and Maggie (Davis) Robinson. She was a 1942 graduate of Muncie Central and earned a degree in Bible Studies and Religious Education from Taylor University in 1950. Upon graduation, she served as the Christian Education Director at the First Methodist Church in West Monroe, La., where she met the man God chose for her husband, Robert C. Willbanks, her beloved RC. They were married at Madison Street Methodist in Muncie December 19, 1954. Ruth and RC recently celebrated their 59th anniversary. After they wed, RC entered Iliff Seminary in Colorado and became a United Methodist minister. Ruth was very intelligent and insightful. She loved her family and friends deeply and unconditionally. She was a gifted cook and delighted in feeding her loved ones. She was vivacious and loved to laugh and tease. Survivors include her devoted husband and best friend, RC; their beloved children, Mary Margaret Willbanks, Muncie, and Robert C. (Susan) Willbanks, Jr., Monticello; and their precious granddaughter, Kaitlin Willbanks, Monticello. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary (Henry) Riley. A memorial service was held February 1, 2014, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home in Muncie. Rev. Don Miller, a dear friend, officiated.

Wiseman, Marian Marian Kamman Fulling Wiseman, 93, widow of Elder Reverend Emory Fulling and formerly of Whiteland, Ind. died Sept. 25, 2013, in Smyrna, Tenn. She was born Feb. 16, 1920, in Zoar to Harvey and Corella (Meyers) Kamman. Marian was a homemaker and minister's wife and a member of the Whiteland United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Emory Fulling, who died in 1955, and her second husband, Warren Wiseman, who died in 1982. She is survived by: daughter, Susan (spouse: Robert) Stinson of Hermitage, Tenn.; son, John Fulling of Whiteland; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held on October 19, 2013, at Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. Burial followed at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg.

Yates, Virginia Virginia Lee Yates of Auburn, Ind., 83, wife of the Rev. J. Wilbur Yates, retired Elder of the Indiana Conference, died December 29, 2013. Born June 16, 1930, in Taylorsville, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Robert T. H. and Hazel Beatrice Wakefield. She married Rev. J. Wilbur Yates on Sept. 7, 1953. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. She was a homemaker and a faithful pastor's wife who was skilled at making any parsonage they moved into during their 40-plus years of ministry in the United Methodist Church, a comfortable home for her family. Survivors include husband, the Rev. J. Wilbur Yates; two children, Ray A. Yates (Dawn) of Celina, Ohio, and Kimberlee A. (Jason) Powell of Granger, Ind.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren,; and two step-great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service was held January 2, at the First United Methodist Church in Auburn. The Revs. Shalimar Holderly, Ted Jansen and Lamar Imes officiated. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn.
