From the Vice Chancellor’s Desk

It is my privilege and pleasure to present the report of activities of Central University of Karnataka, Kalaburagi through this Tenth Annual Report from 1st April 2017 to 31st March 2018. This growing University is trying to establish its credentials as an institution where learning, research and publications are pursued with great zeal to achieve the objectives enshrined in the Indian constitution. The University has initiated many novel ideas of academic and research interest to put the University on path of excellence in all its pursuits and endeavours. The University, since its inception in 2009, has been gaining from strength to strength as a result of sustained interest and efforts of the previous Vice Chancellors: Prof. A. M. Pathan, Prof. S. Chandrashekhar, Prof. S. S. Murthy and Prof. M. N. S. Rao. The CUK community has witnessed significant positive changes in terms of both people’s participation and incremental growth leading to healthy changes in the University. Because of the untiring and sustained efforts of our former Vice Chancellors, this University has been moving forward to realize the dream of making this University a premier national University with international reorganization and at the same time addressing the core issues of sustainable development and progress of the region.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………… The University has been expanding rapidly with the stated objective to realize the goals mentioned in the 12th plan proposals for higher education. The University is scrupulously following necessary guidelines of UGC, MHRD, and Govt. of India on educational policies and programmes.

The University is well aware of the challenges of the contemporary India and the world in establishing a quality educational institution. It is heartening to note that the system is committed to bring all the required changes to achieve this goal. Diversity in language, culture, belief, tradition, knowledge-systems and way of life, which mark the inclusive secular character of this country and make it unique in the whole world, is being reflected in the University. The CUK family is truly a mini Bharat. The University, primarily nourishing Post Graduate and Research programmes, is offering courses in Kannada, Hindi, English, Economics, Commerce, Business Studies, Psychology, Social Work, Geography, Geology, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Chemistry and Engineering. The University also offers Dual degree courses in Engineering and Applied Sciences with are unique and among the first of its kind in India. The University has introduced research programmes in Classical Language Kannada and Linguistics. Establishment of Centre for Endangered Languages will cater to the study and research of Endangered Languages in India. Departments in the pipeline are Folkloristic and Tribal Studies, Music and Fine Arts and Department of Education.

It is a matter of satisfaction that the University after it moved into its own campus, on 30th November 2013, whole lot of activities in the Academic, Administrative, Research, Community Development, Regional Development, Rural Development frontiers have been taking place. The University infrastructure expansion and stabilization is high on the agenda. A state of the art library with modern facilities and user friendly atmosphere and nice ambition has started operating from the Central Library premises. CUK community is being established in the campus with residential accommodation availability for its employees and students. Campus post office has stated operating. 24/7 ambulance service has been made available for the University community. The University has initiated many clean and green activities for making this 654 acres campus, a clean, green and sustainable campus. On these lines, large scale plantations have been initiated along with a research and demonstration centre on Biofuels. Water harvesting structures across the School buildings have been constructed. On the roof top of the Administrative building, solar panels have been laid to tap the solar energy and augment the electricity supplies with an on grid system. As per the mission and vision of Govt. of India in general and Central University of Karnataka in particular, we are committed to making this University truly world class institution of higher learning, research and innovation.

About the University

The Central University of Karnataka (CUK), established by an Act of the Parliament (No. 3 of 2009) at Kalaburagi, Karnataka, is one of the sixteen new Central Universities established by the Government of India i n t h e the UGC XI Plan period p r i m a r i l y to address the concerns of ‘equity’ and ‘access’ to education. The University provides quality higher education to t h e people in educationally less developed, i . e . low graduate enrolment ratio, districts of the state.

The CUK, with its territorial jurisdiction all over Karnataka has initiated its activities from the academic year beginning August 2009 in keeping with the philosophy of achieving and maintaining the highest levels of academic excellence, sensitivity to equity, and access to enrolment. The e i g h t year old University is emerging as a premier national educational and research institution in the country.

The University has six hundred and fifty four acres campus, situated near Kadaganchi village in the district of Kalaburagi, (thirty kilometres from Kalaburagi city towards Aland), Karnataka. CUK is one of the first new Central Universities to move to its permanent campus. The main objective of the University is integrating the components of teaching, research, innovation, training and skill development with an aspiration to excel in integrated, post graduate and doctoral programs. The University offers various programmes in the following six areas: Arts, Humanities, Management, Sciences, Engineering, Education. Currently the University is running E i g h t e e n Departments spread in eight Schools and three Centres, offering nine integrated UG-PG programmes, fifteen post graduate programs and sixteen Doctoral programmes.

SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE UNIVERSITY • The University follows Choice Based Credit System. Students have the academic freedom to choose their courses of study by picking up components of allied, elective, supportive courses apart from their Core Courses of study. • Departments of allied subjects function under one School, which helpsin interdisciplinary academic activities. • Continuous evaluation and up-gradation of curriculum. • Courses have inbuilt component of developing students in a holistic way. • Students are sent to academic tours to reputed national and international institutions for academic interactions and exposure. • Internships, trainings, industry visits are part of the course structure. • University placement cell. • Academic collaboration with reputed universities and institutions. • Merit-cum-Means Scholarship. • All female students belonging to economically weaker sections (having annual income less than 6.00 lakhs) have been exempted from tuition and hostel fees. • All Ph.D. students are offered fellowship of Rs. 8,000/- per month in addition to annual contingency of Rs. 10,000/-. • Classrooms equipped with latest teaching-learning aids. • Internet facility (Wi-Fi). • Hostel accommodation for students. • State-of-the-art library with e-journals, books and periodicals.

Introduction of the School:

The School of Undergraduate Studies coordinates with other Schools and Departments to provide a holistic undergraduate experience. It draws upon the academic resources of other schools to offer integrated and flexible learning programmes leading to the award of BA (Hons) and MA degrees with exit option after the three years in Economics, Geography, Psychology and English. The School also offers three year stand-alone BBA programme.

The undergraduate programmes also include Foundation Courses (FC).

The Foundation course is designed not only to develop a student’s understanding of his/her own subject but also to enable them develop capabilities of lateral thinking, integrated understanding, and a keen cognitive perception of their surroundings.

DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH INTRODUCTION: The Department of English, the first full-fledged department with which the University started in 2009, currently offers IMA, MA and Ph.D. programs. The Department attracts students, researchers and faculty from various parts of the country reflecting the multicultural fabric of India. The Department aims to foster a proud tradition of academic excellence with students exploring the widening horizons of English studies as a discipline. Interdisciplinary teaching and research, creative thinking and engagement with a larger academic community form part of this exploration. It recognizes that the study of subjects categorized under Humanities and Languages helps in understanding the past and the possibilities of future. The Department currently has 6 regular and 7 contractual faculty members. In the academic year (2017-18), there are 43 Undergraduate, 60 Postgraduate and 4 Ph.D. students at the Department. Nagaraju, Head, Dept. of English, CUK, Kalaburagi The Department of English, Central University of Karnataka organized a Two-Day National Seminar on “Indian Modernities: Literature, Culture and Society” on 22-23 March-2018. Prof. H. M. Maheshwaraiah, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, CUK, Kadaganchi, Kalaburagi inaugurated the seminar followed by key note address by Prof. G.N. Devy, Literary Critic. Prof. Rajendra Chenni, Prof. Rahamath Tarikere, Prof. Anna-Margaretha Horastschek, Dr. Justus Gronau, Prof. Surekha Devi, Prof. E. Raja Rao, Dr. Tarakeshwar V.B., Prof. Basavaraj P. INTRODUCTION

The Department of Kannada is part of the School of Humanities and Languages, The major objectives of the department constitute undertaking original research in Kannada Language, Literature, Culture and Society incorporating innovative research approaches, and imparting such training to our students as would enable them to succeed in the present day knowledge-based society. DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY AND ARCHAEOLOGY

INTRODUCTION

Historical study always provides an outstanding preparation for informed citizenship in an increasingly complex and interdependent world and lays a firm foundation for many career objectives. The Department of History strives for national and international recognition for providing instruction at the post graduate and research level about the importance of understanding the past in any society, and for teaching them critical, analytical and research skills applicable to career paths. It has a globally accepted curriculum with world-class standards, so that any degree earned here would have international value. With a strong focus on research, the department pursues evidence-based research both at the faculty level as well as through the research scholars. The department of History offers P.G. & PhD Courses and strives for national and international recognition by providing quality education with understanding critical, analytical and research skills. The range of teaching and research includes Ancient, Medieval, Modern & Contemporary Indian History, inquiries into the polity, economy, society and culture since the earliest times in a pan Indian, integrated and interdisciplinary perspective. The P.G. programme is more interactive and interdisciplinary by giving more emphasis on archaeology and numismatic into it. The most attractive feature of the P.G programme is that is structured flexibly to achieve breadth while permitting students to specialize in an area that is of a particular interest. The research scholars are encouraged to peruse innovative and meaningful historical researches that contribute to the popular and scholarly understanding of the past. Students will be encouraged to explore new areas by taking courses that focus on periods and regions with which they are not familiar.

The department has good relationship with premier institutes like Deccan College and Indian Institute of Research in Numismatic studies for the support and field training of PG students. Good exposure will be given to the students through visiting archaeological sites, participating in excavation, workshops and practical training. In addition to these regular programmes, the department is also offering elective/allied courses across all other departments and schools on following topics Ancient, Medieval, Modern India and freedom Movement. The Department also take initiatives to launch programmes of interdisciplinary domains that takes history beyond the disciplines. The Department is dedicated to providing quality education to all who want to acquire critical thinking, skill and innovative research in history. SCHOOL OF BUSINESS STUDIES INTRODUCTION

The School of Business Studies presently comprises of the Department of Economic Studies and Planning, Department of Commerce, and Department of Business Studies. The Vision of the school is to emerge as a centre of excellence in interdisciplinary approaches to studies and research involving Economics, Commerce and Management. The Mission of the school is to blend theory with application. Emphasis will be on application of theories in real life situations to enhance skill sets of students. It has an internship programme and undertakes various other measures like ERP, personality development and such initiatives that offer maximum exposure and enhance the skill-level and employability of the students. A Placement Assistance Division is also established to explore opportunities for student’s placements with industries and institutes. The students of the school under the supervision of the faculty members undertake social outreach activities such as helping the deaf and dumb school and collecting used cloths to distribute to the poor etc. The students of the school organise a management fest, by inviting sponsorship from business organisations at the inter-institutions level, where teams from various management institutions participate in a variety of management related events.

DEPARTMNET OF BUSINESS STUDIES INTRODUCTION

The Department of Business Studies has been established with a vision to strive for excellence in the field of Business Studies through multi-disciplinary approach and foster entrepreneurial and managerial talent among students who with their core competence, can carve their own niche in the highly competitive world. The mission of the department is to nurture and shape positive attitude, competencies and capabilities among the students who can apply entrepreneurial skills, management concepts, tools and techniques, and ethical principles in sustaining/creating socially responsive organizations, institutions and enterprises that are vital for the growth and development of the region, nation and the world at large. PROGRAMS OFFERED 1. BBA 2. MBA 3. Ph.D

The department offers three year BBA and two year four semesters MBA program with specialization in Marketing, Finance and Human Resource Management and Ph.D. programme. The courses are dynamic in nature and are modified from time to time to address the requirements of the corporate and industries. In order to equip the students to assume the diverse roles of business executives to entrepreneurs the pedagogy adopted by the department comprises of games, role plays, quiz, industrial visit and group exercises in addition to lectures, seminars and case methods. The department also arranges interaction with industrialists, business executives, management consultants, leaders from NGOs and civil societies and reputed academicians for the benefit of students to impart practical orientation. Students are evaluated through continuous internal components of class test, presentations, assignments and the end term examination. The department organizes workshops, seminar, series of guest lectures by the industry practioners and academicians from reputed organizations of the country throughout the year. In order to give the practical exposure to the working of the industry postgraduate students are sent on the industrial visit to different places every year. A mega management fest is organised by the students themselves to apply their knowledge & skill sets learnt during the course, into their practical life.

DEPARATMENT OF COMMERCE

INTRODUCTION

The Department of Commerce started functioning from the academic year 2010-11 as a constituent department in the School of Business Studies. It offers two year (four semesters) Post Graduate program in Commerce with specialization in Finance, Accounting & Taxation and Banking & Insurance. The course is designed, updated and imparted to develop conceptual and analytical skills to the students in line with the industry requirements. The course structure has a judicious mix of conceptual, analytical and quantitative reasoning to meet the requirement of the industry. The department has experienced faculty and invites experts from the industry as well as academicians from reputed institutions on need basis. The course is enriched with in-plant training and research project to inculcate research culture and to help the students to gain exposure to the working of the corporate environment. The Department promotes faculty research, consultancy, training and outreach activities. The Department is also offering full time PhD Program. The department is striving to promote research in the Hyderabad Karnataka Region. It is credited with organisning workshops, capacity building programs and national conferences. Faculty members are actively undertaking research projects funded by national organisations.

SCHOOL OF PHYSICAL SCIENCES INTRODUCTION School of Physical Sciences was started in 2012 with the Departments of Physics and Mathematics as its constituents. The primary goal of the School is to provide high quality education in various domains of Physics and Mathematics. The academic programmes of the School of Physical Sciences are aimed at creating an environment that promotes research and innovation. The School is creating high quality infrastructure in terms of well qualified faculty, well equipped laboratories, computational facilities and high-quality learning materials in various domains of Physics and Mathematics. This infrastructure would be utilized to create motivated young scientists and mathematicians capable of contributing to a “Knowledge Society”. DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

INTRODUCTION

The Department of Physics offers a 2 year (4 semesters) Master’s degree program to prepare students for a career in teaching and research. Students will not be allotted any branch of specialization in Physics at the time of admission. The first two semesters will be devoted to the study of foundation courses in Physics. During semester II and III the students will have the freedom to study subjects of his/her choice under the guidance of a faculty advisor. The fourth semester is set apart exclusively for a dissertation project. The entire curriculum is designed to prepare a student to enter a research career in multi-disciplinary areas of science and technology in research organizations and industry. The program emphasizes on developing scientific and innovative spirit, instilling professional ethics and spirit of service to the society.

The most attractive feature of the M.Sc. program is the freedom given to the students to decide about domain specialization during the 2nd year of their studies. They would be guided to select from a basket of elective courses focused on a major domain of Physics. They would also have the opportunity to study cross-disciplinary subjects depending on their interest. Thus, the students would be well prepared to contribute to research in multi-disciplinary fields of contemporary interests. Another prominent feature of the M.Sc. program is the Dissertation project to be carried out in the 4th semester. The students will be allotted a project at the end of the 2nd semester and they would be required to explore the project topic by self-study during the 3rd semester. At the end of this study they would be required to submit a project proposal to carry out a project in the final semester. This study would be carried out under the supervision of a faculty advisor. The project itself can also be carried out in a prominent research organization in India. Thus the project would provide the students with research experience to enable them to continue further into the PhD Program.

DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

INTRODUCTION

The Department of Mathematics was established in 2012 and has always shared the vision of the institute in striving for excellence in teaching. Growing steadily, today the department not only teaches various topics in mathematics to undergraduate and postgraduate students of different engineering and science departments, but also runs its own M.Sc. Course in Mathematics. The department started its M.Sc. Mathematics course in the year 2012 with the intake of 32 students. The frontier areas of research of the department include Fluid Mechanics, Computational Fluid Dynamics and Numerical Analysis. The laboratories in the department and the computer centre are equipped with most modern facilities to provide the best work environment. The students are trained in computer programming languages like C, C++, and FORTRAN. They also gain exposure in handling problems through mathematical software like MATLAB, Mathematica, Mapple etc.

Vision: To be among the best Mathematics Departments in the country and to establish an international reputation as a centre for research and teaching in Mathematics.

INTRODUCTION

Chemistry is the domain of Natural Sciences dealing with the science and technology of all living and non-living things on the earth. Its impact is spread over all human activities and industrial advances in the world. The motto of the Department is to explore various facets of the Chemistry, investigate new horizon and impart the knowledge to young students. Department of Chemistry is running a 4 semester (2 yrs) M.Sc. programme & PhD programme in Chemistry from the academic year 2014-15. The M.Sc. programme is designed to prepare scientists having a thorough knowledge of fundamentals as well as recent advances in modern chemistry. The students will be exposed to new emerging areas of research such as biological chemistry and materials science. The training provided over two years would enable the students to be in a better position to qualify in the national level tests such as UGC-CSIR fellowships, GATE and state level tests (SLET or SET) in Chemistry. A major feature of the M.Sc. program is the dissertation project that each student has to carry out in the fourth semester on topics of current research interest. The primary goal of the school is to provide high quality education in various domains of computer and cyber world at the post-graduate level.  This Memorandum of Understanding is signed on 16th September 2018, between School of Engineering, CUK and Centre of Excellence on Disaster Management, JNTUH University, Hyderabad for carrying out knowledge transfer to the B.Tech Civil engineering and other branch Engineering students of final years to carry out their projects with advanced approaches and technologies.

 This Memorandum of Understanding is signed on 21st May 2018, between the School of Engineering, Central University of Karnataka (CUK), Kalaburagi and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad. This MoU is proposed to provide mentorship to School of Engineering, Central University of Karnataka, Kalaburagi by IIT Hyderabad. IIT Hyderabad will assist the school of engineering, CUK in following domains: a) curriculum development, teaching, setting up laboratories, conducting Faculty Development Programs and students’ workshop. CUK will adopt IITH fractal academics in B.Tech engineering programs from the next academic year 2018-19. Fractal academics is a novel academic curriculum developed by IITH, it becomes very popular in higher education in the country and owes its success.

INTRODUCTION The School of Education functons within the broad framework of the objectives of NCTE and Central University of Karnataka.

The Department of Education, sanctioned by UGC, offers two programmes, B.Ed. and M.Ed. each of two year duration which have been approved by National Council for Teachers Education (SRC) with the intake of 50 students for each programme, meant for prospective Teachers at Secondary level. The primary objective of the Department is to impart quality teacher training. In addition to teaching- learning process, research and extension activities such as seminars, discussion are the integral part. This is a course with potential of employment in teaching learning, evaluation and research.

The Department is currently co-ordinated by Prof. Sunitha A. Manjanbail, Professor of Hindi.

The academic year 2017-2018 was a significant year for the school of education and training, as the School started taking shape by introducing B. Ed (Two Years Course).

The Bachelor of Education programme (B. Ed) is a professional course that prepares teachers for Upper Primary or Middle Level (Classes IV to VIII), Secondary Level (Classes IX & X) and Senior Secondary Level (Classes XI & XII). 1. Advisory Committee meeting of CFEL Conducted at CIIL, Mysore on 17th and 18 April 2017. 2. Field work for documentation of Languages Erava, Arebase, Koraga, Sanketi, Belare, Havyaka Betta Kuruba, Chenchu, Pattegar, Byari and Koracha started from 19th of April 2017, first round of field work completed by the end of the month. 3. A Pilot Survey was undertaken for Jenu Kuruba Language in H.D. Kote is during 15th May and 19th May 2017. 4. The Coordinator I/c visited Centre of Advanced study in Linguistics, Annamalai University to note the studies on Endangered Languages by C.A.S. from 3rd and 7th July, 2017. 5. The Coordinator I/c visited UGC from 1st August to 4th August 2017 to appear before Mid term monitoring committee to present the achievement of the Centre and get extension for one more year. 6. The Coordinator I/c (Prof.C. Ramaswamy) visited Madras University during 3rd Oct to 7th October 2017 for library consultation. 7. Prof. K.S. Nagaraja appointed as visiting faculty in the Centre for Endangered Languages on 4th December 2017. 8. Prof. K.S. Nagaraja visited Mysore during 16-20 January 2018 for field study. 9. Prof.C. Ramaswamy visited Kanakadasa Study and Research Centre, Bengaluru for study consultation during 5-9 February 2018. 10. The Centre conducted a two days national seminar on Endangered Languages of India during March 7th and 8th 2018, in collaboration with Karnataka Arts College, Dharwad. 11. Materials documented were received for all the 11 Languages under study (Arebase, Belare, Erava, Chenchu, Betta Kuruba, Havyaka, Pattegar, Byari, Koraga, Sanketi Koracha,) and evaluation was done and sent back for correction during July and December 2017. 12. The Sketch Grammar drafts are received for Byari, Betta Kuruba, Chenchu, Erava, Koracha, Havyaka, Pattegar, Sanketi, They were referred to Prof. K.S. Nagarja and Prof. A. Murigeppa for evaluation and recommendation for commendability. 13. Grammars and Dictionaries for Erava, Sanketi, Chenchu, Betta Kuruba and Havyaka are received in full form and preparation of pre-publication copies of them started. 14. Editing work for the Grammars of five languages (mentioned above) were finished by March 2018.

Library Automation with RFID

Central Library full automated with RFID technology. LibSys10 upgraded software integrated to manage the in house operation to cater to the needs of an advanced handling library resources and services. The features of Libsys10 Acquisition, Cataloguing, Circulation, Serial control and Web OPAC. RFID is a technology that promises to increase efficiency, productivity and enhance user satisfaction while rendering the services.

Web-OPAC(Online Public Access Catalogue)

It provides the bibliographic databases of library resources with printed indexes. The system includes a word-based search facility using Boolean operators that can narrow down a search to meet very specific user needs.

Book Bank Scheme

The objective of this scheme is to help the needy student to draw books from the “Book Bank Scheme” for their consultation and use during a particular semester. The issue of these books is in addition to the books which the student is entitled to draw by enrolling him/herself as a member of the Book Bank library. Only the students who are the members of the Library and belong to SC/ST can draw the books for a semester depending upon the availability. No other member is entitled to draw books under the Book Bank Scheme. The books from this section are not to be sent on inter library loan also.

 Organized two day Workshop on Data Analytics using SPSS Faculty Development program organized by SPSS south Asia in association with Central Library, more than 200 participant within Karnataka and delegates from other state were presented.  One-day training program on CMIE, ICI and Scopus database held on 19th March 2018.

Future Plans

Plans are on to develop the reading collection, creating quality reference collection for academic and research work by the departments. Plans are on to organize the workshop/seminars/conference. Developing separate section for visually handicapped students. 24/7 services may start soon.

 Celebration of 126th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar at CUK was held on 14/04/2017.  Celebration of Basava Jayanthi was held on 01/05/2017.  International Yoga Day was observed on 21st June, 2017.

The university examination section conducts examinations for all the programmes, arranges for the valuation of answer scripts and announces the results and issues degree certificates to the students. The valuation and announcement of results of all examinations are announced in time. The university follows a semester system with continuous internal assessment and end-semester examinations. Admissions to the undergraduate, post-graduate and Ph.D programmes for the academic year 2017- 18 were made on the basis of Central Universities Common Entrance Test conducted by the Central University of Karnataka on 28 & 29 April 2018 and the Test was held in 100 centres across the country. Central University of Karnataka conducted the following examinations and announced the results for I, III and V Semesters (including regular and repeaters) in November/December 2017.

Name of the Department/Section/Center Computer Centre The vision of the centre is to bring about improvement in our students with modern technology and to enhance their learning skills through computer, software and new educational assets that will allow students to proceed at their own rate according to their ability. Profile  CUK Computer Centre offers access to the Internet, Network and Wi-Fi in and around campus and computing resources for teaching, learning and research work.  Around 60 systems are available for independent study; Technical assistants are available to provide support.  National Knowledge Network (NKN) 1Gbps leased line internet connection provided under the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT).  Wi-Fi enabled campus. Computer Centre has facilitated implementation of National Academic Depository (NAD), a digital depository of academic awards, an MHRD initiative. X. Provides technical support and assistance to students, faculty, and staff. Analyses problems and implements solutions, performs network and server administrator duties, and assures system stability, accessibility, and proper configuration of assigned technical systems and components. XI. Performs computer trouble-shooting to diagnose system problems; analyses hardware and software functionality; identifies, locates, resolves and repairs problems within scope of authority. XII. Monitors domain environment, resolves configuration and connectivity issues, and other traffic, security, and access problems; checks network for operating efficiency, makes corrective adjustments to data management settings, and assures system integrity; sets up and repairs network hardware.

SKILL DEVELOPMENT CELL

Introduction:

In order to facilitate offering of nationally standardized skill related programmes, the Government of India has notified the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) on 27th December 2013. It is a nationally integrated education and competency-based skill framework which provides for multiple pathways, both within vocational education and between general and vocational education, to link one level of learning to another higher level and enables learners to progress to higher levels from any starting point in the education and / or skill system. It permits individuals to accumulate their knowledge and skills and convert them, through testing and certification by the competent authorities, into higher level of certification which could be a certificate, diploma, advanced diploma, a degree or a PG diploma in common parlance and B.Voc courses. The Central University of Karnataka started its Community college activities in 2013. In 2015 (21-7-2015) the Community College and B.Voc courses are brought under Skill Development Cell at CUK for better coordination.

Vision: Achieve education and employment inclusion of disadvantaged youth through innovation skill – based education and training for employment and self-employment.

Mission.  Design and implement innovative and need-based academic programmes for the disadvantaged youth.  Forge stakeholder partnership with individuals, philanthropist’s educational institution, industries and corporate for training and hand- holding arrangements for the deprived youth.  Integrate education and competency-based skill framework which provides for multiple pathways, both within vocational and between general and vocational education, to link one level of learning to anther higher level and enables learners to progress to higher level from any starting point in the education and/ or skill system.  The Skill Development Cell aims at enabling the graduates completing Diploma and B.Voc to make a meaningful participation in accelerating India’ s economy by gaining appropriate employment, becoming entrepreneurs and crating appropriate knowledge.  To reach out the unreached population and empower them with need oriented and value based education with a view to enable them to be partners in national development

RAJBHASHA SECTION

About the Section:-

 Rajbhasha Section is established to enrich Hindi Language among the teaching and Non- teaching staff of CUK. The aim of the Section is to facilitate employees of CUK to use Hindi language in day to day official activities and the Section tries to create the awareness about the Hindi language among the CUK employees.  The Section holds Official Language Implementation Committee meeting quarterly. Progress report of the Section is discussed in every quarterly meeting. After approval of the committee the quarterly report of the Rajbhasha will be sent to Ministry of Human Resource Development and University Grants Commission, Government of India, New Delhi. This year the Rajbhasha Section held 4 meeting of the Official Language Implementation Committee and sent 4 quarterly reports and Annual Report. These Reports are called Bhag-I and Bhag-II Reports.  The Rajbhasha Section organized various activities/competitions in CUK to celebrate Hindi Saptah. Hindi Saptah was celebrated on 09/10/2017 to 12/10/2017. Hindi Day was celebrated on 16/10/2017. Prof. R. S. Sarraju, Head, Dept of Hindi, Central University of Hyderabad was invited as Chief Guest of the function.

 The following matters and materials have been translated in to Hindi and submitted to the university.  Ordinance, Statutes and Regulations of CUK have been translated and submitted to the University for Publication.  Annual Report and Annual Accounts - 2016-17 of the CUK.  Boards  Seals  Headings of the Registers  General Orders, Circulars, Office Orders, Notifications of CUK have been made in the bilingual format. 183
