This growing University is trying to establish its credentials as an institution where learning, research and publications are pursued with great zeal to achieve the objectives enshrined in the Indian constitution. The University has initiated many novel ideas of academic and research interest to put the University on path of excellence in all its pursuits and endeavours. The University, since its inception in 2009, has been gaining from strength to strength as a result of sustained interest and efforts of the previous Vice Chancellors: Prof. A. M. Pathan, Prof. S. Chandrashekhar, Prof. S. S. Murthy and Prof. M. N. S. Rao. The CUK community has witnessed significant positive changes in terms of both people’s participation and incremental growth leading to healthy changes in the University. Because of the untiring and sustained efforts of our former Vice Chancellors, this University has been moving forward to realize the dream of making this University a premier national University with international reorganization and at the same time addressing the core issues of sustainable development and progress of the region. 6 Central University of Karnataka Tenth Annual Report …………………………………………………………………………………………………………… The University has been expanding rapidly with the stated objective to realize the goals mentioned in the 12th plan proposals for higher education. The University is scrupulously following necessary guidelines of UGC, MHRD, and Govt. of India on educational policies and programmes. The University is well aware of the challenges of the contemporary India and the world in establishing a quality educational institution. It is heartening to note that the system is committed to bring all the required changes to achieve this goal. Diversity in language, culture, belief, tradition, knowledge-systems and way of life, which mark the inclusive secular character of this country and make it unique in the whole world, is being reflected in the University. The CUK family is truly a mini Bharat. The University, primarily nourishing Post Graduate and Research programmes, is offering courses in Kannada, Hindi, English, Economics, Commerce, Business Studies, Psychology, Social Work, Geography, Geology, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Chemistry and Engineering. The University also offers Dual degree courses in Engineering and Applied Sciences with are unique and among the first of its kind in India. The University has introduced research programmes in Classical Language Kannada and Linguistics. Establishment of Centre for Endangered Languages will cater to the study and research of Endangered Languages in India. Departments in the pipeline are Folkloristic and Tribal Studies, Music and Fine Arts and Department of Education. It is a matter of satisfaction that the University after it moved into its own campus, on 30th November 2013, whole lot of activities in the Academic, Administrative, Research, Community Development, Regional Development, Rural Development frontiers have been taking place. The University infrastructure expansion and stabilization is high on the agenda. A state of the art library with modern facilities and user friendly atmosphere and nice ambition has started operating from the Central Library premises. CUK community is being established in the campus with residential accommodation availability for its employees and students. Campus post office has stated operating. 24/7 ambulance service has been made available for the University community. The University has initiated many clean and green activities for making this 654 acres campus, a clean, green and sustainable campus. On these lines, large scale plantations have been initiated along with a research and demonstration centre on Biofuels. Water harvesting structures across the School buildings have been constructed. On the roof top of the Administrative building, solar panels have been laid to tap the solar energy and augment the electricity supplies with an on grid system.
