The demand of water is increasing day by day. So, groundwater resources play a vital role for additional demand by farmers and Industries and domestic usage leads to rapid development of groundwater. About 63% of available groundwater resources are now being used. However, the development is not uniform all over the State, and in certain districts of Tamil Nadu, intensive groundwater development had led to declining water levels, increasing trend of Over Exploited and Critical Firkas, saline water intrusion, etc. ADMINISTRATIVE SET UP The total geographical area of the Dindigul distict is6, 26,664 hectares, which is about 4.82 percent of the total geographical area of Tamil Nadu state.Thedistrict, is well connected by roads and railway lines with other towns within and outside Tamil Nadu.This district comprising 359 villages has been divided into 7 Taluks, 14 Blocks and 40 Firkas.

Rathakrishnan 2 ABSTRACT The present study was undertaken with an objective to find out the performance of Old Ayakudi guava Farmers’ Interest Group (FIG), Dindigul district, Tamil Nadu. The overall performance of the FIG were analysed using six variables viz., mobilizing support, exploitation resistance, identifying market opportunities, business orientation, marketing network and responsibility sharing The study revealed that majority of the FIG members perceive the performance of FIG at moderate level performance followed by high and low level performances. Keywords : Farmer interest group, exploitation resistance, market opportunities, business orientation, marketing network, responsibility sharing, Tamil Nadu. May, 2006 Abstract The current checklist of 100 earthworms from TamilNadu, south India is updated, corrected and modified from: Kathireswari, P. ,Julka, J.M., and Reynolds, J.W. (2005). "Checklist of Oligochaeta of Tamil Nadu, India". Megadrilogica 10(8): 57-68. These authors listed only 95 megadriles but most taxa were placed in the wrong genera and/or families and some names are mispelled, eg. E. foetida, D. sapphirinoides, Pontoscolex corethrurs, Pontoscolex corethrururs, Lamipito, etc . An additional 29 species they listed in a microdrile section is unchecked here.
