Famous for its orange groves, avenues lined with palm trees, mild climate, sandy beaches and friendly people, Valencia has conserved many of its ancient customs and traditions. Valencia’s major commercial port was once an important link between the peninsula and other Mediterranean countries. Its mild climate is one of the reasons it has become so popular with visitors and the city has become a leading congress and conference venue in Europe. Major multinational corporations such as Ford and IBM have made Valencia an important European business center. The University Universidad Europea de Madrid – Centro Adscrito de Valencia is a 15 minute walk from the city center, near the main universities of Valencia and close to the beautiful Viveros Park. Academics LHU students studying at UEM take Spanish language courses only. All classes are taught in Spanish. Students are expected to have sufficient proficiency in Spanish (Level B1), both oral and written, in order to succeed in their coursework. Housing Universidad Europea de Madrid – Centro Adscrito de Valencia is an urban campus and has no residences for its students. To find suitable accommodations (share an apartment with other students or live with a local family) students MUST contact UEM’s provider, UNIVERSAL STUDENTS: www.universalstudents.es This service will find accommodation and provide students with other useful information including travel, etc. Air Travel Students are responsible for making their own travel arrangements. Please see the LHU International Office for assistance. Tuition - LHU students continue to pay LHU tuition and fees while attending UEM- Centro Adscrito de Valencia. Students are billed for tuition and fees plus an additional $150 International Service Fee. Keep in mind that all financial aid can apply toward your study in Spain since you are participating in an LHU sponsored program. Students do not pay any tuition or fees in Spain. There is, however, a fee to be paid for the Spanish Language course (see the university website for details), and it will also be necessary to pay for activities such as athletic club memberships, if you wish to utilize those services. Non-LHU students are not eligible for this exchange program. Information on international health insurance providers can be obtained from the Institute for International Studies. You may find that your present health insurance policy includes overseas coverage. It is important, however, that your carrier provide written verification of such coverage. So, how do I get started? Simply come by the Institute for International Studies to pick up an application form. Remember! Applications are due March 1 for the fall term and October 1 for the spring term.
