Bio GFA & Betsy
Betsy King Betsy King was the best player in women’s golf in late 1980’s/early 1990’s. From 1985 through 1990, Betsy won a total of 20 LPGA Tour events, more wins than any other golfer in the world, male or female. She played on the LPGA tour for 28 years with 34 career wins total, including six major championships. She played on five Solheim Cups and was the captain of the victorious 2007 Solheim Cup. In 1995 Betsy was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame and inducted into the LPGA Hall of Fame. Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, Betsy played collegiately at Furman University where she was on the 1976 national championship team. King was low amateur at the 1976 U.S. Women's Open, then joined the LPGA Tour in 1977. Betsy retired from the Tour in 2005 and dedicated her life to helping others. In 2007 Betsy founded Golf Fore AFRICA after a trip to AFRICA where she saw the devastating plight of AIDS orphans and extreme poverty. By enlisting the support of LPGA players and golfers, Betsy and Golf Fore AFRICA have raised over $6 million to build health clinics and bring clean water to villages in Zambia and Rwanda. Golf Fore Africa Golf Fore Africa was founded in 2007 by LPGA Hall of Fame Golfer Betsy King following a 2006 trip with World Vision to Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia. After witnessing the terrible plight of poverty and HIV/AIDS, and its devastating effects on the children of Africa, she came home with a passion to make a difference in these children’s lives and a vision to do so using her gifts and experience in golf.

INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT: PAULA CREAMER Thursday, May 19, 2011 MODERATOR: All right. We would like to welcome Karrie Webb into the interview room. Congratulations on your 3 & 2 win. Can you just give us your initial thoughts on your match and how things went out there today? KARRIE WEBB: Well, I was very disappointed that I actually picked Sarah on Tuesday. You know, I've known Sarah for quite a few years now and, you know, watched her progress with her career and she's been playing quite nicely, but she is so -- I didn't like the fact that I had to play her in the first round. Would have been better to meet her somewhere further down the track, I guess, but I was concerned how I would feel being out there. I mean, if it's someone that you're not necessarily friends with, you don't worry if you're making birdies or stuff like that and I worried if that would concern me. But I played really nicely. We had a really good match actually. I was at 5-under and Sarah's at 2-under, so we both played really well. I hit my irons really well. I think I had six birdies, but four of them were quite, you know -- she gave me a couple, I didn't even have to putt. The one I played on the last was about three feet, so I hit the ball really quite nicely. Q. How did your relationship that Paula was talking about start? Did you as a veteran player see her and say, gee, this is a woman who has promise, I'm going to help her out, or how did that work out? KARRIE WEBB: Actually, the first time I ever played with Paula was here in her rookie year, played against her.
