Asian Outreach (AOHK) welcomes youth volunteers on the following programs:

Program 1

Name: Kiddie Buddy

Aims:  To build friendship with underprivileged children and better understand their challenges and real life situation  To enhance the English level of the deprived children and broaden their horizons and interests

Details: This program involves organizing at least two creative workshops for a group of underprivileged primary students. The two workshops should be on the following topics: i) Language-related e.g. English drama, creative writing ii) Leisure e.g. chess, board games After observing for a month in the Glorious Light Neighbourhood Centre, the youth volunteer is required to design the contents, formulate the timeframe, prepare teaching materials and execute the workshop which should last for at least 2-3 months. What is more, a competition, performance or outing is to be organized at the end of each workshop as a celebration or evaluation. At the end of the program, the youth volunteer can record the experience and achievements through making a video or portfolio which may be used by AOHK as future publicity.

Location: Workshop Glorious Light Neighbourhood Centre 403-410 Lai Man House, Oi Man Estate, Homantin Competition / Performance / Outing To be proposed by the youth volunteer

Time commitment: Weekly

Duration: 6-8 months (1 month of observation + 2-3 months of workshops x 2 + competition, performance or outing)

Program 2

Ambassador for Elderly Care

Aims:  To understand the situation of the disadvantaged elderly in Hong Kong and show love and care from the youth  To help the elderly better communicate with their family and friends of younger generations through new technologies

Details: Being an Ambassador for Elderly Care, the youth volunteer will take part in a 1-day experience of an impoverished elderly in order to understand their difficulties and challenges. The youth volunteer will also conduct regular home visits to the elderly to demonstrate love and care. The youth volunteer will design and organize a workshop teaching the elderly to use high-tech or multimedia products, so that the elderly can better communication with the young generation, especially their relatives and friends. At the end of the program, the youth volunteer can design a gift or product that may help improve the livelihood of these elderly.

Time commitment: Bi-weekly (Twice a month)

Duration: 6-12 months

Program 3

“Dunia kakak”

Aims:  To build friendship with Indonesian domestic helpers in Hong Kong  To show respect and care for migrant workers

Details: Plan and pool in resources for a monthly gathering (e.g. crafts, drama, outing, health talk etc.) with the Indonesian domestic helpers

Location: Island Harbourview Elderly Club UG/F, GIC Building, Olympian City I, 11 Hoi Fai Road, Tai Kok Tsui, Kln

Time commitment: Monthly

Duration: 8-12 months

(Some proficiency of preferred)
