If you have questions or concerns about your symptoms or about COVID-19, consult your health care professional.

Treat symptoms

Depending on your diagnosis, a health care professional may suggest medication to help treat symptoms until your illness runs its course. There are a variety of products available over the counter that are commonly used to treat symptoms of respiratory viral infections. Many provide relief from multiple symptoms in a single dose. For example, an option like Mucinex DM lasts 12 hours when used as directed and contains dextromethorphan, which helps to control cough, and guaifenesin to help thin and loosen mucus.

You can identify the right formula to provide relief based on symptoms you are experiencing by using the online tool at Mucinex.com, where you can also find more information regard- ing self-care remedies.

Control a pesky cough

How long a cough lasts depends on its cause, but you may be able to tame the symptoms until it’s gone.

Eat right • Produce is packed with vitamin C, a nutrient that helps support your immune system. • Menthol may be a soothing natural remedy. It’s one of the compounds that gives mint its flavor, so brew a cup of strong mint tea and put it to the test.

Steam and hydration • Both steam and water help thin your mucus, which may help clear chest congestion. Try a warm, steamy shower or a soak in a hot tub and drink plenty of fluids to keep Photos courtesy of Getty Images your body hydrated.

Sportsman’s report Casa Grande student, Mahoney, The makes USA team sneaky deer hunter By Bill Hanson Deer season opens the second week of August, the fourteenth this year. Here are a few pointers for deer hunters. The over- whelming point one is gun safety, gun handling safety and being aware of how your fellow hunters are handling their firearms. Even the most seasoned hunters will occasionally be looking at their gun instead of where it is pointed, if the aim is you, jump out of the way. Be sure to say something to the hunter. The most com- mon firearm accident is when the hunter is clearing his gun, often when getting back into the jeep or truck. Hunters chamber a round once they are out of the vehicle, doing so and setting the safety make good sense as you enter the field. When getting back into the truck it is essential to rack the round out of the chamber. There are some real dangers lurking in the wild, besides the hunters, rat- tlesnakes are sure to make a guy’s hair stand on end. Hornets live in the bush and do not take kindly to hunters walking too close to their nest. Another unwelcome critter is poison oak, the most com- mon wild plant in our state and a favorite of feeding deer. On the hunter, poison oak is most unpleasant, if one is allergic, it can mean weeks of discomfort, burning, itching and general misery. A few minor meanies, yellow-jackets, ticks love your blood, skunks, bobcats and there are stickers, burs and foxtails who love to ride in your socks. There are four major types of deer hunting in our part of the world. The ‘drive’ hunt, think of the old tiger hunts, natives beat the bushes making a racket, as their circle closes the hunter waits to take the shot. Few hunt groups have that many guys to do an ef- fective hunt. Local drive hunt means setting hunters on ‘stand’ along the chosen hunt zone, both sides and then the drive hunters start walking down the middle making lots of racket, they shout, whistle and make wise guy jokes at maximum volume. The goal is to shake out the deer for the hunters to shoot, it is not so effective as it seems. The first instinct of a wary buck is to crawl behind or under a bush and wait until the hunters pass. The ‘hide,’ the hunter gets inside a special tent or brush pile or in a high hide, once inside, the hunter waits quietly for a buck to walk by. The hide method is the most common for archers. The most common hunt among small groups is the road hunt, an Indian fella spoke with derision of the ‘city’ hunters who sel- Photo: Melodese Mahoney dom got out of their jeep or truck he said, “You only have to walk a few hundred yards to hunt right.” Very good advice.
