Present Owner: Multiple ownership. Present Occupant: Multiple occupants. Present Use: Residential, Park and Recreation. Significance: Druid Hills is historically significant primarily in the areas of landscape architecture~ architecture, and conununity planning. Druid Hills is the finest examp1e of late-nineteenth and early-twentieth-century comprehensive suburban planning and development in the Atlanta metropo 1 i tan area, and one of the finest turn-of-the-century suburbs in the southeastern United States. Druid Hills is more specifically noted because: Cl} it is a major work by the eminent landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted and Ms successors, the Olmsted Brothers, and the only such work in Atlanta; (2) it is a good example of Frederick Law Olmsted 1 s principles and practices regarding suburban development; (3) its overall planning, as conceived by Frederick Law Olmsted and more fully developed by the Olmsted Brothers, is of exceptionally high quality when measured against the prevailing standards for turn-of-the-century suburbs; (4) its landscaping, also designed originally by Frederick Law Olmsted and developed more fully by the Olmsted Brothers, is, like its planning, of exceptionally high quality; (5) its actual development, as carried out oripinally by Joel Hurt's Kirkwood Land Company and later by Asa G. -

March 5, 2007 The Honorable Connie Stokes, Commissioner DeKalb County Commission 1300 Commerce Drive, 6 th Floor Decatur, Georgia 30030 RE: Emory Village, Druid Hills Historic District Dear Commissioner Stokes: On behalf of the National Association for Olmsted Parks (NAOP), we are writing to urge the DeKalb County Commission to file the proposed zoning overlay for Emory Village in the Druid Hills DeKalb Historic District in order to reconsider the approach to the plan for revitalization of this small commercial center. While we have admiration for the effort to strengthen the vitality of Emory Village, we have serious concerns about the impact that the scale of the development permitted by the proposed zoning overlay would have on Frederick Law Olmsted’s last suburb. Any zoning created for Emory Village should respect the scale and look of the surrounding late nineteenth century-planned and early twentieth century-developed neighborhood. The proposed zoning overlay appears to impose an early twenty first century development scheme in the center of the Historic District, presumably protected by the County because of its immense value as an historic resource. As the National Register nomination for Druid Hills indicates, “Druid Hills is the finest example of late-nineteenth and early-twentieth century comprehensive suburban planning and development in the Atlanta metropolitan area, and one of the finest turn-of-the-century suburbs in the southeastern United States.” We are currently seeking to assist Riverside (Illinois), Olmsted’s first suburb, in their effort to maintain their sense of place in the face of a transportation-related proposed development in their center. -

Cairns, FASLA Ball State University Muncie, Indiana May 15, 2018 Assessing the Effect of the Proposed Obama Presidential Center on the Historic Landscape of Jackson Park Prepared by: Malcolm Cairns, FASLA; Historic Landscape Consultant For: The Barack Obama Foundation Date: May 15, 2018 Statement of purpose and charge: To develop the historic landscape analysis that places the proposal to locate the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago’s Jackson Park in its proper historic context. This investigation was undertaken at the request of Richard F. Friedman of the law firm of Neal & Leroy, LLC, on behalf of the Barack Obama Foundation. The assignment was to investigate the proposed Obama Presidential Center master plan and to assess the effect of the project on the historic cultural landscape of Jackson Park, Chicago, a park listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This investigation has necessitated a thorough review of the cultural landscape history of Jackson Park, the original South Park, of which Jackson Park was an integral part, and of the history of the Chicago Park and Boulevard system. Critical in this landscape research were previous studies which resulted in statements of historic landscape significance and historic integrity, studies which listed historic landscape character-defining elements, and other documentation which provided both large and small scale listings of historic landscape form, structure, detail, and design intent which contribute to the historic character of the Park. -

SEATTLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS DATE: October 6, 2017 TO: Recipients of the State Environmental Policy Act Determination of Non-Significance (SEPA DNS) for the Queen Anne Elementary School Addition Project FROM: Pegi McEvoy, SEPA Environmental Offic Seattle Public Schools has identified that the SEPA Environmental Checklist dated October 2017, meets our environmental review needs for the current proposal to expand the Queen Anne Elementary School building using fundingJrom the Building Excellence TV (BEX TV) Capital Improvement Program, approved by voters in February 2013. Project construction is scheduled to begin June 2018 and will be targeted for completion in the fall of 2019 After conducting an independent review, SPS has determined that the project does not have significant adverse impacts on the environment as documented with the enclosed Determination of Non- Significance (DNS). The SEPA Environmental Checklist, October 2017, discusses the potential environmental impacts that could result from expansion of the school to add classrooms for a permanent capacity of 200 students, a new gymnasium, and expanded dining commons, and new administrative space. A draft of the Checklist was released for public comment from May 31, 2017 to June 26, 2017. Comments received informed revisions to the final SEPA Checklist on which the DNS is based. The responses to written comments received are documented in the summary table, Attachment A to this memo. GIS data sources were as follows: • Snohomish County • King County • Pierce County • City of Everett • City of Mountlake Terrace • City of Lake Forest Park This information was not verified in the field and parks and recreation facility representatives were not contacted to determine ownership or the recreational uses associated with these resources. Over 1,300 parks and recreation facilities were listed in the available GIS database including a wide variety of open space areas, sports fields, trails, and water- oriented facilities.
