¿WHAT IS THE AIMRD? The Iberian Association of The Duero Riverside Muncipalities, is un Association (AIMRD) is non profit association, created in 1994 and that was formed to promote cooperation among the countries through which the river passes Douro. Our Association was inscritra in the National Register of Associations. At present, the associate members are 39 municipalities in Spain and Portugal, whose axis is the common river Douro. These 39 municipalities members of the Association is formed by 24 municipalities Spaniards and 13 Câmaras Municipal Portuguese. Also part of the AIMRD two collaborator partners, are the Town Council Arroyo de la Encomienda and CEFIDEA.(Valladolid University). España Teléfono: +34 983540022. +34 607795895 Fax: +34 983541310 Correo Electrónico: [email protected] Web Sites: www.aimrd.com www.rutadelduero.es www.sudeau.eu www.duerofluvial.eu OBJETIVES OF THE AIMRD •To promote the development of an integral project based on the Duero river, with its multiple potentialities, including the area of the bordering town halls. •To promote the adoption of an essential ecological compromise for the bordering populations. •To denounce and try to prevent possible ecological attempts which harm the river. •To develop programs that improve and encourage the partners activities, specially concerning facilities and specialised services. •To promote and to defend the interests of the associates to obtain the complete development of the Duero geographic area, and to improve its inhabitants quality of life. GOVERNMENT General Council. Is the supreme organ of the Association, composed of all members. Its powers are controlling the management of the Executive Committee and approve the budget of the AIMRD and action plans. Executive Committee. It comprises the President and eight Vice-Presidents (four Spanish, Laguna de Duero, Aranda de Duero, Duruelo de la Sierra, Valladolid, and four Portuguese, Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto, Miranda do Douro and Castelo de Paiva). This is the body responsible for implementing the agreements and resolutions adopted by the General Council. Prepares the meetings of this body and makes the proposed plans, budgets and fees.
