Bidders from all over the world were actively buying throughout the day. Not only did we open great wines and enjoy Tru’s exceptional cuisine, but the most winning bids went to those who came to Chicago and bid in the saleroom. We are also pleased that so many bidders are utilizing hdhlive.com to bid live online, where we had our most active day since we launched hdhlive.com over two years ago. Our second auction of the fall season is full of exciting consignments. Launching the sale is a Paul Hart group from hockey legend Mario Lemieux (lots 1-113). The Hockey Hall of Famer and now owner CEO of the Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins is a renowned collector who is offering a Hart Davis Hart Wine Co. fourth consignment with HDH. The consignment showcases the best from Bordeaux, including top ‘82s from Lafi te, Mouton and Pétrus, as well as greats from the ‘90 vintage such as Cheval- Blanc, Margaux, Latour and Lafl eur. The Lemieux Collection also features a remarkable offering from the 2000 vintage, with over 20 Châteaux represented, including all of the First Growths along with the highly sought La Mission Haut-Brion and Pétrus. The depth of this group is also notable, with six full cases of the 2000 Cheval-Blanc, fl anked by four full cases in magnum and two imperials, all in original wooden cases. Highest quality veins of Bordeaux can be found throughout this auction. Highlights include a great cross-section of classic vintages including full cases of the 1982, 1986 and 1989 vintages found in a top Midwestern Cellar (lots 221-259) and remarkable case lots of modern Bordeaux in two deep collections featured in lots 713-769 and 813-878. The selection of Château Lafi te-Rothschild is also impressive, with over 60 lots offered and over 30 full cases from a span of vintages. Burgundy collectors have certainly not been left out! With jeroboams from the great 1971 vintage offered from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (Richebourg lot 295, Romanée-St.-Vivant lot 296, Grands-Echézeaux lot 297). The auction contains an exceptional amount of Romanée-Conti, and bidders searching should review lots 138-152, 253-269 and 879-893. Also, don’t miss the gems from Raveneau located in lots 366-388, an excellent opportunity to win a few lots of top Chablis. I must also point out the historic Madeiras in the auction, the fi nest we have seen in many sales. I would point to the collection in lots 665-712 which contains historic eighteenth and nineteenth century bottles from the best vintages and producers. The fortifi ed wines from this small Portuguese-owned island are sought after for their complexity, great range of fl avors and astonishing aging potential. This is only a small portion of an extensive and carefully assembled collection, and it features iconic wines such as the 1827 Boal from Quinta do Serrado and famous Terrantez including 1802 Terrantez from Acciaioly, and 1846 from Borges. We hope that you will come and join us in Chicago for our October 24 auction. If you are unable to join us, you can leave absentee bids with us via hdhwine.com or join the auction live online via hdhlive.com. Our team is dedicated to providing you with top service however you choose to bid and we remind you of our exceptional retail offerings available daily on hdhwine.com. Cheers! Chicago Tribune Review of Les Nomades: “Visiting Les Nomades is like a step back in time, no question about it, but that’s not to say that this superb kitchen has lost relevance, or any of its ability to excite and delight. Les Nomades is out of style the way good manners are out of style. The rarity of the experience makes you appreciate it all the more…. There is something very comforting about Les Nomades. The downstairs dining room, so Parisian in its clean lines and art-fi lled walls, and the romantic upstairs room, clad in wood and draped in heavy fabric, are as familiar and comfortable as old friends.” Phil Vettel, Chicago Tribune Highlights of this Auction W Lots 1-63 Four Decades of Exceptional Bordeaux From the Magnifi cent Cellar of Hockey Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux Lots 189-220 X Outstanding French Wines in Full-Case Quantities Including a Vintage 1990 DRC Assortment W Lots 221-259 Finest Bordeaux Spanning Four Decades From the Cellar of a Midwestern Gentleman Lots 317-473 X A Distinguished and Eclectic Offering of Fine European Wines W Lots 713-812 An Assortment of Great Wine of France and Italy From the Cellar of a Prominent Chicago Collector Lots 813-995 X An Extensive Offering of Outstanding French, Italian and Californian Wines From the Cellar of a Knowledgeable Collector SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2009 AN AUCTION OF FINEST & RAREST WINES LOTS 1 - 1212 9:00AM FOUR DECADES OF EXCEPTIONAL BORDEAUX Château Mouton Rothschild 1982 FROM THE MAGNIFICENT CELLAR OF HOCKEY Pauillac, 1er cru classé HALL OF FAMER MARIO LEMIEUX Four base neck, four top shoulder, two very high shoulder level; one capsule trimmed prior to consignment reveals fully It is our privilege to feature another installment from Mr. branded cork Lemieux’s collection.
