Grading 'On the Rocks', Sofia Coppola's Love Letter to New York City
Grading ‘On the Rocks’, Sofia Coppola’s love letter to New York City On the Rocks is an elegant generational-clash comedy, where a young New York mother (Rashida Jones) tails her husband along with her larger-than-life playboy father (Bill Murray). An exploration of identities in crisis, through the streets of During production, Philippe and I both used the Copra app the Big Apple. on an iPad Pro, an app specifically modified for this project, to allow CDL values to be applied before the LUT. We were Acclaimed filmmaker Sofia Coppola teamed up once again receiving flat log scans from PostWorks every day synced with DoP Philippe Le Sourd and colourist Damien Van Der through the dailies app and I would send an initial look to Cruyssen for the images. Philippe that he could comment on or modify directly. Can you share your experience over the years in collaborating with Director Sofia Coppola and with DoP Philippe Le Sourd? I’ve been working with Philippe for many years now, especially after he relocated to NYC. He introduced me to Sofia first for commercials (such as Calvin Klein, Chanel, Cartier), then the opera “La Traviata” for European broadcast, and now two features, The Beguiled and On the Rocks. I’ve always been a big admirer of both their work and careers and was thrilled to collaborate with them once they started working together. I recall La Traviata was a big challenge to shoot live, with multiple cameras, audience, complicated limited lighting conditions, and they mastered it so elegantly: Once our little back and forth was over during the day, we this was a great rehearsal before grading The Beguiled would send our stills and CDL values to the dailies colourist together. -

In the Company of Modern Men: Representations of Masculinity in Contemporary Hollywood Comedies A thesis presented to the faculty of the College of Fine Arts of Ohio University In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree Master of Arts Nicholas D. Bambach August 2016 © 2016 Nicholas D. Bambach. All Rights Reserved. 2 This thesis titled In the Company of Modern Men: Representations of Masculinity in Contemporary Hollywood Comedies by NICHOLAS D. BAMBACH has been approved for the School of Film and the College of Fine Arts by Ofer Eliaz Assistant Professor of Film Elizabeth Sayrs Interim Dean, College of Fine Arts 3 ABSTRACT BAMBACH, NICHOLAS D., M.A., August 2016, Film In the Company of Modern Men: Representations of Masculinity in Contemporary Hollywood Comedies Director of Thesis: Ofer Eliaz This thesis discusses the increasing visibility of masculine identity in contemporary Hollywood comedies. I examine how shifting developments in economic, societal, cultural, and gender relations impacted the perception of cinematic masculinity. The men, more specifically white and heterosexual, in these films position themselves as victims and, as a result, turn to alternative outlets to ease their frustrations and anxieties. In order to broadly survey the genre of the past two decades, I focus on three consistently popular character tropes in Hollywood comedies: slackers, office workers, and bromantic friendships. All the male characters discussed throughout the thesis are plagued by their innermost anxieties and desires that compromise their gendered identities. However, these films resort to a regressive understanding of masculinity and functions within the dominant heteronormative structures. This thesis demonstrates how Hollywood comedies present a contradictory and multifaceted image of modern masculinity. -

Check It Out: Angie Tribeca
shswavebreaker.com http://shswavebreaker.com/opinion/reviews-2/2016/02/01/check-it-out-angie-tribeca/ Check it out: Angie Tribeca On January 17-18, TBS released the 25 hour binge-a-thon marathon of the greatly anticipated Angie Tribeca. Starring Rashida Jones as LAPD detective Angie Tribeca and her partner Jay Geils played by Hayes MacArthur, the comedy follows the two detectives as they investigate murders, art thieves, and kidnappings in Los Angeles, California. Angie Tribeca’s style of comedy is entirely different than popular shows such as Parks and Recreation, which Jones also appeared in. The writing is similar to the 1980’s hits Airplane and The Naked Gun, meaning most of the jokes are based on puns. Despite sounding initially cheesey, the cast and creators Steve Carell and Nancy Carell make it work through smartly using set and props to enhance the viewer’s experience. Within the first ten minutes of watching, the audience is hooked and will be reaching for the remote to click on the next episode. While doing most things right, Angie Tribeca missed the mark on a few aspects. Some of the jokes are overused and underbaked, reminiscent of the uncle who tries too hard to be funny at Thanksgiving. There is a lack of episode to episode plot line, besides an underlying romantic tension between two characters that provides some humor and awkward situations. However, a continuous plot would seem out of place in this show, so Angie Tribeca is off the hook for that one. Overall, Angie Tribeca is a hilarious show with witty writing and a hard working cast, easily earning 4 out of 5 stars. -

In the pilot episode, Ann, a local nurse, complains at a town hall meeting about a giant pit near her house that her boyfriend fell into, upon which he broke both his legs. Leslie promises Ann that she will fill in the pit and build a park in its place. However, it quickly becomes apparent that nothing works smoothly in government. -
