Kontakt Ellen Jurell, 070-555 3136, [email protected] Om de nominerade Dima Bilan (Europe) In 2008, Dima Bilan became the first Russian artist ever to win the international Eurovision song contest, with the song “Believe.” His songs are always topping Russian and foreign charts. Dima Bilan is supported by a huge army of fans and friends, and he has received more than 70 awards in the music sphere. Dima Bilan is the only artist who has won the Best Russian Act EMA six times. Rihanna (North America) The Barbados-born R&B singer is an international megastar who has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide. Han Geng (Asia Pacific) Known as “the most influential male celebrity in China,” Chinese Mando-pop singer and actor Han Geng debuted in South Korea in 2005 as the only Chinese member of Super Junior but left to focus on a solo career in 2009. His first solo album sold over 1 million copies, and tickets to his first concert sold out in a record-breaking 37 minutes. To date, he has received more than 20 awards for his solo works, including Best Artist of The Year and Most Popular Artist in Asia in 2011. Han Geng’s second album “Hope in the Darkness” was released in July 2012. Ahmed Soultan (Africa/India/MiddleEast) With the success of his first single "Ya Salam," Ahmed Soultan reveals himself as the precursor of a new style he likes to call Afrobian Soul, for Afro-Arabian. His album “Tolerance” has been so greatly welcomed, and given such wide media coverage, that Ahmed Soultan has soon become one of the figureheads of the "Nayda," the new Moroccan scene. After a second album, released in 2009, in which he definitely asserts himself, his popularity in and over the Maghreb got confirmed. Singing in four languages (Amazigh, Arabic, English and French), he has been part of many international musical events, among them the Kora Awards in South Africa, the opening of a Tiken Jah Fakoli concert in Dakar, his contribution to the People Power song (with Talib Kweli, Angelique Kidjo and Zap Mama), Fez's Sacred Musics Festival, Marrakech's Moonfest, Casablanca Music Festival, and many other European scenes (Barcelona, Amsterdam, Paris). He collaborated with the famous American singer Ne-Yo on a song called "Amazing You." In 2011, his song "Jokko" was nominated as best North African song and best African reggae song of the year. He's now working on his third album (planned for spring 2013), for which he promises amazing and unexpected collaborations. Restart (Latin America) Restart is a favorite band of fans and a huge success, and was last year’s Worldwide Act nominee for Latin America. They have many stories to tell, especially when it comes to the VMB, the annual award show for MTV Brasil. In 2010, the group was left with five statuettes – but was booed on stage. Thomas, Koba, Pe Lu and Pe Lanza formed the band in 2008 and since then, they have released three albums. Their latest release was “Geração Z” in 2011. Thanks to their international success, the group recently recorded their songs in Spanish, once again demonstrating their success both in Brazil and abroad. .

• 'Gay Olympics'?: the Eurovision Song Contest and the Politics of LGBT/European Belonging Catherine Baker
View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by Repository@Hull - CRIS The ‘Gay Olympics’?: The Eurovision Song Contest and the politics of LGBT/European belonging Catherine Baker (University of Hull) Accepted for publication in European Journal of International Relations Abstract The politics of gay and transgender visibility and representation at the Eurovision Song Contest, an annual televised popular music festival presented to viewers as a contest between European nations, show that processes of interest to Queer International Relations do not just involve states or even international institutions; national and transnational popular geopolitics over ‘LGBT rights’ and ‘Europeanness’ equally constitute the understandings of ‘the international’ with which Queer IR is concerned. Building on Cynthia Weber’s reading the persona of the 2014 Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst with ‘queer intellectual curiosity’, this paper demonstrates that Eurovision shifted from, in the late 1990s, an emerging site of gay and trans visibility to, by 2008–14, part of a larger discursive circuit taking in international mega-events like the Olympics, international human-rights advocacy, Europe/Russia relations, and the politics of state homophobia and transphobia. Contest organisers thus had to take positions – ranging from detachment to celebration – about ‘LGBT’ politics in host states and the Eurovision region. The construction of spatio-temporal hierarchies around attitudes to LGBT rights, however, revealed exclusions that corroborate other critical arguments on the reconfiguration of national and European identities around ‘LGBT equality’. Introduction The theoretical interventions of Queer International Relations, which recognise how sexualities and gender non-conformity are embedded in international politics, have ‘transformative’ potential for International Relations (Langlois, 2015: 1).

  • Eurovision 2008 De La Chanson

  • Alicia Keys About Girl on Fire
! ALICIA KEYS ABOUT GIRL ON FIRE With the arrival of her fifth studio album, GIRL ON FIRE, (available November 27th), Alicia Keys emerges stronger and wiser— taking the reins of her career in a way she never has before. In this album, you hear an artist breaking free and exploring new worlds. Vibrant and soulful, energetic and intimate, GIRL ON FIRE is built to move you, physically and emotionally. “This album is about new beginnings, new perspectives and fresh starts,” says Keys. “There is something really empowering about finding your own inner strength— stripping away all the energy that no longer works for you and taking full control of how you want to live.” Eleven years ago, the tough girl from Hell’s Kitchen with the golden voice and mad piano skills arrived. After years of struggling to get an album released, Keys got the chance to perform “Fallin’” from her debut album, SONGS IN A MINOR, on The Oprah Winfrey Show… and a star was born. She spent the next ten years running on a treadmill of success: Platinum records. Sold-out concerts. World tours. 14 Grammy awards. Movie deals. Best-selling books. Philanthropic missions. Fans kept singing along, hit after hit: “No One,” “If I Ain’t Got You,” “Empire State of Mind,” among many others. Life eventually caught up to Keys for all its heartbreak and beauty: she lost an inspiration with her grandmother’s passing; she parted ways with her longtime manager, Jeff Robinson; she married artist and producer, Swizz Beatz, and together had a beautiful baby boy, Egypt.
