June 29-30: Re-Creation Dinner Variety Show 5:30 PM Re-Creation presents "Party Rock USA!" A grand celebration highlighting the most popular American songs of all time! July 1: Rusty Rail Live: Stephen Kellogg 8:00 PM Rising star Stephen Kellogg will bring his passion to the Rusty Rail Live stage at the Rusty Rail Brewing Co. Deemed “the best live act you’ve never seen” by CBS Radio, Kellogg splits genres with his genuine, intimate sound. Three legged races, peanut hunts, balloon volleyball and crafts are among the activities planned at the Ball Field! This program will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather. Sunday, July 3, 9-9:45am- Hummingbird Tea and Talk Enjoy a morning cup of tea or coffee with the naturalist at the park office and watch are amazing hummingbirds. We will chat about these neat little avian acrobats and have some fine photo opportunities as well so bring your camera and favorite beverage mug. We will meet at the Park Office 2-3pm-My Life as a Turkey Based on a true story, this charming funny and thought provoking video explores the secret world of the wild turkey. July 2: Mini Lectures at the Taber Museum and an Appearance by Mark Twain In conjunction with the Sesquicentennial celebration of Williamsport’s City Charter, granted in 1866, the Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society will host a series of free mini lectures beginning at 9:00am. Learn about Williamsport Firefighters, city of Williamsport’s mayors, a history of the Williamsport police department, Williamsport women, and the African-American experience in Williamsport. The museum will be open for touring until 4 pm. No admission charged. Then at 2:00pm ‘Mark Twain’, as portrayed by Charles Kiernan, will recount the life and times of Samuel Clemens, whose pen name was ‘Mark Twain’ and who brought to life Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, and the celebrated jumping frog of Calaveras County. July 5: Packwood House Summer Programs for Children: Fairy Gardens Anytime is the perfect time to think of the magical world of fairies. We will be making a fairy display, or Hobbits for those who prefer. July 9: Celebrate Rural Heritage with the Union County Historical Society 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Come join the fun! "Celebrate Rural Heritage" at the Historic Dale/Engle/Walker House. Watch demonstrators share their skills in practices that date back centuries, including Blacksmithing, Chair Caning, Egg-scratching, Grain , Hornsmithing, Laundering and Clothes Washing, Tatting and Lace- making, Weaving and Spinning. See an antique Steam engine and Hit-and-miss engine. Listen to "Samuel Dale" and "Joseph Priestley" discuss life in America c. 1800. There are hands-on activities for children and adults, such as making Corn Dolls, fun games, pony cart rides, and farm animals for petting. Country Twirlers Square Dancers will perform. The Dale Ridge Ramblers will provide old-time music. There will be delicious food for purchase, including chicken, baked potato, corn, pork sandwiches, macaroni salad, baked beans, apple sauce, watermelon, mint tea, lemonade, baked goods, and ice cream. Now-September 10: Packwood House Exhibit: Weddings Remembered Wedding dresses from 1787 to the 1950’s will be featured in the summer exhibit at Packwood House Museum showcasing the changing styles of American brides. Among the many styles to be represented will be a minimalist grey taffeta dress worn in an 1875 Quaker service, a drop waist flapper dress from the 1920s and a short white taffeta dress with crinoline and veil from the 1950s. The exhibit features more than a dozen wedding gowns along with era-appropriate accessories. The dresses are from the collections of three area museums: The Thomas T. Taber Museum in Williamsport, PA, and the Packwood House Museum, Slifer House Museum, both in Lewisburg as well as the Muncy Historical Society. Now-November 27: Joseph Priestley House Museum Tours 1:00-4:00 PM In his laboratories in England and America Joseph Priestley discovered many gases (he called them airs) including oxygen, ammonia and carbon monoxide. This Unitarian minister was a friend of Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. Forced to flee England, Priestley lived in Pennsylvania from 1794 until his death in 1804. Priestley’s American home is protected as a state museum. Today, The Friends of Joseph Priestley House open the house and laboratory on weekend afternoons from mid-March until the end of November. Tours are conducted at 1, 2 and 3 pm. Tours at other times can be arranged.
