Rajai Davis and J.D. Martinez each had three hits to lead the Tigers offense. Martinez also added a RBI in the contest. Record: 53-38 / Streak: L1 Austin Jackson was 2x4 with a run scored in the loss. Justin Verlander started for Detroit Game #92 / Home #48 and took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts in 6.1 innings. The Tigers start the second half of the season tonight as they open a four-game Home: 25-22 / Road: 28-16 series against the Indians. Following this weekend’s series, the Tigers begin a seven-game Tonight’s Scheduled Starters road trip, which includes three games at Arizona and four games at the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. RHP Anibal Sanchez vs. RHP Trevor Bauer DIRKS INJURY REHAB RECALLED, REMAINS ON DL: The Tigers on Wednesday (6-3, 3.04) (3-4, 4.23) recalled the injury rehabilitation assignment of outfielder Andy Dirks from Single A Lakeland and he will remain on the disabled list. Dirks has played in six games with TV/Radio Lakeland, hitting .313 (5x16) with four runs scored, one double and one RBI. He has been FSD/AM 1270 & 97.1 FM sidelined since March 29 with lower back surgery/microdiscectomy. VERHAGEN CONTRACT PURCHASED TOMORROW: The Tigers today announced that TIGERS VS. INDIANS they will purchase the contract of righthanded pitcher Drew VerHagen as the 26th man for tomorrow’s split doubleheader against the Indians. VerHagen is scheduled to start the first 2014 Record: 4-4 game of the split doubleheader. A corresponding 40-man roster move will be announced 2014 at Home: 1-1 prior to tomorrow’s first game. Over the five games, Jackson is hitting .455 (10x22) with seven runs scored, 5/21 CLE L, 11-10 (13) Tomlin/Coke three doubles and one triple. 6/20 CLE W, 6-4 Porcello/Kluber/Nathan LOOKING BACK AT THE ALL-STAR GAME: Miguel Cabrera, Ian Kinsler, Victor Martinez and 6/21 CLE W, 5-4 (10) Nathan/Allen/Coke Max Scherzer each participated in All-Star Game festivities earlier this week. Cabrera started 6/22 CLE W, 10-4 Scherzer/Tomlin at first base for the American League and went 1x3 with a home run and two RBI. He became just the 11th Tigers player to hit a homer in the All-Star Game and the first since Lou 7/18 DET Whitaker in 1986. Max Scherzer picked up the victory for the AL after throwing a scoreless 7/19 DET fifth inning with two strikeouts. Scherzer is just the fourth Tigers pitcher to earn a win in the 7/19 DET All-Star Game and the first since Jim Bunning in 1957. Kinsler entered the game as a pinch 7/20 DET hitter in the seventh inning and went 0x1. 9/1 CLE V-MART ON THE MARK AGAINST THE INDIANS: Victor Martinez enters tonight’s game hitting .362 (72x199) with 21 doubles, nine home runs and 46 RBI in 54 career games against 9/2 CLE Cleveland. He leads all active players with a .362 batting average and a .432 on base 9/3 CLE percentage and is second with a .603 slugging percentage against the Indians. Cabrera leads all active players with a .609 slugging percentage against the Indians, ranks second with 33 home runs, tied for STREAKS second with 109 RBI, fifth with a .412 on base percentage, tied for fifth with 154 hits and sixth with a .336 batting average. Cabrera has hit safely in 11 of his last 13 games against the Last five games: 4-1 Indians. Last 10 games: 6-4 WINNING WAYS OVER THE INDIANS: The Tigers have won 18 of their last 24 games Last 15 games: 10-5 vs. Cleveland, dating back to May 21, 2013. The Tigers have outscored the Indians 147-97 Last 20 games: 14-6 during the stretch. Additionally, the Tigers enter tonight’s game having won 35 of the club’s last 47 games against the Indians at Comerica Park dating back to the start of the 2009 season. DOMINICAN SUMMER LEAGUE ALL-STAR ROSTERS ANNOUNCED: The Dominican Summer League American League and National League All-Star Teams were announced Happy Birthday to yesterday. Outfielders Cesar Gonzalez and Felix Santana were selected to participate in the Tigers Outfielder DSL All-Star Game, which will be held on Sunday, July 20. They will be joined by DSL Tigers manager Rafael Martinez, who will serve as the third base coach for the AL team, Torii Hunter, and athletic trainer Luis Reyes. Infielder Eugenio REPLAY RUNDOWN: The Tigers have been involved in 56 instant replay challenges so far this season. Detroit has challenged 23 plays with 14 plays being overturned, five plays Suarez and confirmed and four plays standing as called. Opponents have made 27 challenges with 19 Defensive plays being overturned, two plays confirmed and six plays standing as called.
