CSPAN Suspends Steve Scully for Lying About His Twitter Account Being Hacked - Statement WASHINGTON, October 15 (Sputnik) - The cable network C-SPAN said in a statement on Thursday that it has suspended its lead reporter Steve Scully after admitting he lied about his Twitter account being hacked when he publicly reached out to former US President Donald Trump’s aide Anthony Scaramucci on the social media platform. "Starting immediately, we have placed Steve on administrative leave," the statement said. "After some distance from this episode, we believe in his ability to continue to contribute to C-SPAN." On October 8, Scully asked Scaramucci in a now-deleted tweet whether he should respond to Trump after Trump criticized him on national television that day. Scully was originally set to server as the moderator in the now-canceled second presidential debate that would have taken place on Thursday night. Scully said in a statement that he sent the tweet to Scaramucci because he was frustrated over criticism he received on social media and from the US president. CSPAN said Scully informed the network and the Commission on Presidential Debates on Wednesday that his hacking claim was false. Trump said in a statement the second presidential debate would have been rigged and that the Commission has not treated his re-election campaign fairly.

  • Statements Regarding Steve Scully's Twitter Account
October 15, 2020 C-SPAN has released the following statements regarding Steve Scully's Twitter account: Statement from Steve Scully: "For several weeks, I was subjected to relentless criticism on social media and in conservative news outlets regarding my role as moderator for the second presidential debate, including attacks aimed directly at my family. This culminated on Thursday, October 8th when I heard President Trump go on national television twice and falsely attack me by name. Out of frustration, I sent a brief tweet addressed to Anthony Scaramucci. The next morning when I saw that this tweet had created a new controversy, I falsely claimed that my Twitter account had been hacked. These were both errors in judgement for which I am totally responsible. I apologize. These actions have let down a lot of people, including my colleagues at C-SPAN, where I have worked for the past 30 years, professional colleagues in the media, and the team at the Commission on Presidential Debates. I ask for their forgiveness as I try to move forward in a moment of reflection and disappointment in myself." Statement from C-SPAN: Steve Scully made us and the Commission aware of this new information late Wednesday (10/14). By not being immediately forthcoming to C-SPAN and the Commission about his tweet, he understands that he made a serious mistake. We were very saddened by this news and do not condone his actions. During his 30 years at C-SPAN, Steve consistently demonstrated his fairness and professionalism as a journalist. He has built a reservoir of goodwill among those he has interviewed, fellow journalists, our viewers, and with us.

  • 2016 Ayuda Annual Report As We Celebrate Ayuda’S 44Th Year Helping Low-Income Immigrants Stop Abuses and Rebuild Their Lives, I Am Delighted to Share These Highlights
2016 Ayuda Annual Report As we celebrate Ayuda’s 44th year helping low-income immigrants stop abuses and rebuild their lives, I am delighted to share these highlights. Ayuda is helping immigrants overcome legal, domestic violence, human trafficking, and other abuses. In the current environment, many immigrants, Dear Ayuda especially low-income immigrants, feel very vulnerable and scared, and are not sure where to turn. Ayuda stands with them as they seek to exercise their rights and access justice. We provide legal and social services that Friends and address concerns, solve cases and change lives. Most of all, we show—and immigrants know—that we care and are there to help. Supporters, Ayuda is investing and organizing for growth. Ayuda is stronger now than one year ago because of key investments. We hired attorneys to serve more immigrants more quickly, and we moved a stronger core operations team to a centralized downtown D.C. location. In addition, I am especially enthusiastic about how we are shifting to leverage the skills and passion of the community. For example, our Pro Bono Program coordinator will increase the number of pro bono attorneys serving clients. In parallel, and in response to an outpouring of interest, Ayuda’s Community Volunteer Program coordinator will organize ways for the broader community to engage with and support Ayuda. Looking ahead, Ayuda will explore ways to be more present in the region. We will take steps to serve more immigrants living in Maryland, where there is both need and potential opportunity for expansion. In addition, we will partner with selected neighborhood-based organizations—those whose services complement Ayuda’s—so that immigrants in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia can access a wider range of client-centered support in the neighborhoods where they live and work.
