Higher elevations in the park can be 10-15 degrees cooler. Marriage Celebration The reception at Tenaya Lodge will be outdoors, under a handicap-accessible pavilion with a paved floor. If it is chilly there will be heat lamps. We will also have a fire pit (with s’mores). There is no dress code, though Markkus and I will be in full wedding attire. Sense of Place Tenaya Lodge (the reception location) is Ø 5 minutes outside the south entrance to Yosemite National Park. Ø 1 hr. 5 minutes (35 miles) to Yosemite Valley (main tourist area) Ø 1 hr. 15 minutes (35 miles) to Glacier Point viewing area Ø 2 hr 18 minutes (82 miles) to Tuolumne Meadows From Oakhurst, add 20 minutes drive time to Yosemite destinations. Staying in Wawona? Subtract 15 minutes from Yosemite destinations. § Google map of wedding hotels & key points of interest 2 Yosemite National Park Yosemite National Park Logistics Entrance Fees Fees and passes can be purchased at the entrance. § 7-day vehicle pass: $30 Allows admittance of a vehicle and all passengers of that vehicle. § Lifetime Senior National Park Pass: $10 (Min. age 62) Allows entrance of vehicle with the passholder and all riders in that vehicle. Requires signatory to be present & show ID at entry. § Other passes available for motorcycles, walk-ins. Details here. Bears and Food Storage Yosemite and the region are home to American black bears. While not known for being aggressive toward humans they are extremely voracious and will literally rip doors off cars to get at food. Proper storage of food and scented items is extremely important. § Food can be kept in your car if it is out of sight with the windows completely close only during daylight hours. § At night all food, scented items like hand wipes, drinks, etc. should be cleared from your car and either stored in your hotel room or, if camping, in provided bear lockers. § While hiking or in the park on foot, keep all food within reach. § More information on proper food storage and bears Maps § Google map of wedding hotels & key points of interest § Yosemite National Park maps (shuttle, trail, etc.) 3 Park Points of Interest Yosemite Valley In June Yosemite Valley is usually swarming with tourists as the primary destination – and for good cause. It’s known for its impressive waterfalls, meadows, cliffs and unusual rock formations. Getting around the valley you have two options: Drive the valley loop with turnoffs for most of the destinations or use the two shuttles that run in the summer looping past and stopping at most of the destinations. Yosemite Valley Shuttle Map Ø Tunnel View: As you drive from the south entrance toward the valley you will go through a tunnel with a parking lot to the left. Stop for a quintessential view of the valley. Ø Waterfalls: Yosemite Falls, Vernal Falls, Nevada Falls, Bridal Veil falls and others. Ø El Capitain: Famous challenge for serious rock climbers, impressive to onlookers too. Ø Merced River: Runs through the valley Ø Yosemite Valley Visitor Center: Good place to get your bearings Ø Nature Center at Happy Isles: Family friendly nature center with interactive exhibits and a short walk through the forest. Ø More Yosemite Valley attractions 4 Where to stay in Yosemite Valley § Curry Village: Tent Cabins which have real beds/bedding on a platform with canvas sides. Shared bathrooms outside like a campground. § Yosemite Lodge at the Falls: Hotel accommodations just below Yosemite Falls. § Housekeeping Camp: More rustic than the Curry Village tent cabins, these are three sided structures with bunk beds – think camping, but with a bed and no need to pitch your own tent. § The Ahwahnee: High end lodging in the valley. § Camping: Pitch a tent in the great outdoors. 5 Wawona Very close to the south entrance of Yosemite, you’ll pass Wawona on your way to Yosemite Valley or Glacier Point. Ø Historic Wawona Hotel: Dating to the late 19th century, it’s a beautiful spot for dinner or cocktails in the lounge, even if you aren’t staying here. Ø Pioneer Yosemite History Center: Horse-drawn wagons, walk across a covered bridge, and visit historic buildings out of Yosemite's past Where to stay in Wawona § Wawona Hotel: Rooms with shared or private baths. § Camping: Pitch a tent in the great outdoors. 6 Glacier Point Glacier Point, at 7,214 feet (about 3,000 feet above Yosemite Valley) offers a hard-to-beat view of Half Dome, Yosemite Falls and the valley below without the need to hike to the top of a mountain. From the parking lot, it’s an easy wheelchair accessible stroll out to the point. Ø Looking for a hike on the way to Glacier Point? Highly recommend hiking to Sentinel Dome or Taft Point Ø More on Glacier Point 7 Tioga Road and Tuolumne Meadows On the northern rim of Yosemite Valley, Tuolumne Meadows is a longer drive from our reception location but if you have the time and want a scenic road trip, it’s worth it. Tioga Pass road takes you up into the High Sierras where the mountains and majestic views are stunning. Ø Stunning turnouts: As you drive Tioga Pass, be sure to stop at the turnouts for the vistas Ø Tenaya Lake: On the way to Tuolumne you’ll pass Tenaya Lake, a good spot to get out and stretch your legs. You can swim here, but it’s an alpine lake so it’s frigid, especially early in the year. Ø Hiking: There are some spectacular hikes in the area as well, including the very easy hike to May Lake (1.3 miles each way), which can be continued as a much more strenuous hike to the top of Mt. Hoffman if desired. Here are some more hiking options in the area. Ø Tuolumne Meadows: A large, open sub-alpine meadow graced by the winding Tuolumne River and surrounded by majestic peaks and domes. Ø Tuolumne Visitors Center: At the meadows is a visitor center where you can get more info on things to do in the area. Where to stay in Tuolumne Meadows: § Tuolumne Meadows Lodge: Tent cabins with beds. Shared baths outside, ala a campground. § Camping: Pitch a tent at Tuolumne campgrounds. 8 Activities near Fish Camp, CA (Reception Location) 101 Activities in the Southern Sierras This complete guide to the region is better than anything I could pull together. § 101 Things to Do near Tenaya Lodge Some Highlights: Near Oakhurst § Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad § Zip Yosemite § Shadow of the Giants Trail § Gold Panning § Yosemite Sierra Wine Road § River Creek Golf Course Bass Lake § Boat rental and water sports 9 Beyond Yosemite If
