iv Metal is not a spontaneous medium. Creating a form is a cooper- ative venture between the artist and the material. It requires time, much planning, patience and sensitivity to the response of the metal to the touch of the tool. With the complementary techniques of chasing , and repousse, the shapes evolving from the metal sheet can be precisely controlled. With care, the metal can be urged to surprising limits. I have used these processes to generate a rich vocabulary of form, ranging from the sharply detailed face in "Object of Idle Plaesure", to the soft, interlocking shells that fold into "Disclosure I".

I tried to create an atmosphere of feminity and timelessness, using lighting, music and plants, clean white walls, with cases placed so you could walk around them easily.

The lighting was softened between each piece and directed to the work.

A burgundy velvet pad was placed under each piece to help absorb light, contrast the metal with the velvet, and to add a soft feminine quality,

Under the velvet, was a light colored, natural gray-brown woven fabric, designed to enhance the velvet, the piece, and give unity to the exhibit.

The music was supplied by an 1897 music box called a Graphanola. It was used to give a feeling of the past and a sense of timelessness,

The plants were used to break up the white space and add a sense of formality. Several large bouquets of lilac were used near the entrance to give a sweet smell, adding a feminine quality to the exhibit.
