$8 Million in Capital Investments at Windham Mountain Resort for 18/19 Season Improvements Range from a Six Passenger Lift to a Pool at The Winwood Inn

WINDHAM, N.Y. (October 5, 2018) Environmental impact, energy efficiency, the guest experience and providing the best product possible were guiding principles in capital improvement spending for the 2018/2019 season at Windham Mountain Resort.

Westside Six, a high speed, detachable, six passenger chairlift being installed on the west peak will provide 3,000 skiers and riders per hour with a ride from the base to the summit in under 5 and a half minutes. Construction is on schedule and Westside Six is anticipated to open early in the 2018/2019 season.

Windham Mountain Resort is proud to be the first resort in New York State to implement RFID lift access. The “Axess” radio-frequency identification technology will eliminate the need for guests to present their lift ticket or season pass to a lift attendant prior to loading all base area lifts. RFID Cards can be reloaded via a home computer or smartphone, and can be used season after season.

Snowmaking continues to become more efficient with nearly 100 automated snow guns being installed on Whistler, What Terrain Park (previously Assembly Line), Lower Wipeout, and Upper Wraparound. Over two miles of new snowmaking pipe on Whiteway, Wraparound, Wilbur and Way To Go will also contribute to the resort’s ability to make large quantities of high quality snow in shorter amounts of time. A new PistenBully 400 Snowcat is being added to the grooming fleet. The high-performance machine complies with Tier 4 of the emissions standards set forth by the EPA, making it the most efficient engine available.

At the Winwood Inn, a new pool was built in the spring of 2018 and enjoyed by lodging guests, Windham Country Club members, and local pool members all summer long. The pool compliments a long list of amenities at The Winwood Inn including a fitness center, movie theater, and game room.

Westside Six New to Windham Mountain Resort for 2018-2019 High Speed Six Passenger Doppelmayr Chairlift will Transport 3,000 Passengers per Hour

WINDHAM, N.Y. (October 4, 2018) The brand new, high speed, detachable six passenger chairlift being installed at Windham Mountain Resort now has a name. Westside Six will be open for the 2018/2019 winter season, transporting skiers and snowboarders from the base to the summit of the resort’s west peak in under five and a half minutes. It will also be referred to as “F Lift”, replacing a triple chair, which had been in place since the 1980’s.

With a slope length of 5,105 feet, and an uphill capacity of 3,000 people per hour, “Westside Six will transport the same number of passengers as the old triple chair, and Whirlwind Express, our high-speed quad, combined,” says Ted Davis, Director of Mountain Operations at Windham Mountain Resort. “The project kicked off with the removal of the old lift this past spring, then we poured concrete footings for towers and terminals in early summer. While the footings cured, the tree line was widened to make way for the size of Westside Six, and electrical and communication cables were placed underground,” explains Davis.

A Crew from Doppelmayr, the world’s leading manufacturer of ropeways, cable cars and ski lifts, is now working on site at Windham Mountain Resort installing terminals and towers, starting at the summit and working down to the base. Construction is on schedule and Westside Six is anticipated to open early in the 2018/2019 season.

The new lift is part of an $8M capital investment made by Windham Mountain Resort for the 2018/2019 season. In addition to Westside Six, the resort has implemented RFID Lift Access Technology, installed nearly 100 automated, high-efficiency snow guns, replaced over 2 miles of snowmaking pipe, and purchased a new PistenBully 400 Snowcat.

Windham Mountain Resort the First in New York State to Implement RFID Technology Dynamic Pricing Will Compliment New Lift Access System

WINDHAM, N.Y. (October 5, 2018) Windham Mountain Resort is proud to be the first resort in New York State to implement RFID Technology for state of the art lift access. The “Axess” radio-frequency identification technology will eliminate the need for guests to present their lift ticket or season pass to a lift attendant prior to loading all base area lifts. RFID Cards can be reloaded via a home computer or smartphone, and can be used season after season.

Dynamic Pricing will launch in late November at windhammountian.com, providing skiers and riders an opportunity to purchase lift tickets at up to 42% off ticket window rates. Once guests have an RFID lift access card, they can simply reload tickets for any given day onto their card via the website store. “RFID ticketing is essentially ‘EZ-Pass for skiers’. It will provide easier access to lifts and more accurate scanning of tickets and passes, helping skiers and riders get on the mountain faster, skipping the ticket windows and lift line scanning process.” said Chip Seamans, General Manager of Windham Mountain Resort.

Windham RFID cards should be placed inside a pocket on the left side of the skier or riders body, as the readers will be located to the left side of RFID gates at each lift. Ideally, the cards will be placed in a left chest or arm pocket well above the knees and below the shoulders.

All guests will now have the option to sign up for Resort Charge, by attaching a credit card account to their RFID card. This eliminates the need to carry cash or a credit card on the mountain. Resort Charge is accepted at all Windham Mountain Resort operated restaurants, eateries and retail locations.

The addition of RFID technology to Windham Mountain Resort is part of an $8M spend in capital investments this year.
