For more detailed factual information, and in-depth competition statistics, please refer to the matchweek press kit, which can be downloaded at: http://www.uefa.com/uefa/mediaservices/presskits/index.html Match background Despite dealing AS Saint-Etienne their first UEFA competition defeat since November 1982 in the first leg at the Weserstadion, Werder Bremen know that their UEFA Cup Round of 16 tie is far from over. • Having knocked out AC Milan in the previous round, Bremen made a bright start against St-Etienne, with Naldo putting them into a 20th-minute lead, but they failed to increase their advantage after that and head to France with the outcome still in the balance. • St-Etienne had been unbeaten in their 12 previous European games since losing 4-0 at FC Bohemians Praha in the second leg of their 1982/83 UEFA Cup second-round tie on 3 November 1982. That run comprised seven wins and five draws. • Les Verts' nine-game unbeaten home run in Europe stretches back to the quarter-finals of the 1980/81 UEFA Cup, when a team featuring UEFA President Michel Platini lost 4-1 to Ipswich Town FC at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard. -

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE - 2019/20 SEASON MATCH PRESS KITS Football Arena Munich - Munich Wednesday 6 November 2019 18.55CET (18.55 local time) FC Bayern München Group B - Matchday 4 Olympiacos FC Last updated 03/11/2019 21:15CET UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE OFFICIAL SPONSORS Match background 2 Legend 5 1 FC Bayern München - Olympiacos FC Wednesday 6 November 2019 - 18.55CET (18.55 local time) Match press kit Football Arena Munich, Munich Match background Bayern München extended their Group B advantage to five points with a hard-fought victory at Olympiacos, and will be looking to cement their place in the round of 16 with two matches to spare in the reverse fixture in Germany. • The five-time European champions were made to work last time out in Piraeus before making it five wins from five against Olympiacos, Robert Lewandowski scoring twice and Corentin Tolisso once after Youssef El Arabi had given the home side the lead; a late Guilherme strike was not enough for Olympiacos to salvage a point as Bayern avoided defeat in a UEFA Champions League away game for a club-record 11th successive time. • Bayern therefore have nine points, five more than second-placed Tottenham with Crvena zvezda on three and Olympiacos one.The German club have scored 13 goals in their three matches, the most in this season's competition. Previous meetings • Bayern have scored 17 goals in their five matches against Olympiacos; they had kept three successive clean sheets before Matchday 3. • In the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League group stage, Lewandowski, Thomas Müller and Kingsley Coman were all on target in a 4-0 home success in Munich. -

Ligue 1 Guide 2021/22
2021/2022 Ligue 1 Preview Guide INTRODUCTION After a historically close title race that saw four teams in the running Ligue 1 is back with no small amount of fanfare following a busy summer. Of those four sides, while Lille and Lyon have been relatively quiet as they try to consolidate under new managers, Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain have been eager participants in the mercato, buying well in a way that addresses the two sides’ needs. Nice and Rennes have also done some canny business in the offseason, to say nothing of Marseille’s flood of arrivals, but the discussions about pro- spective title favorites in France have to start and end with the capital side. Even as rumors swirl around the potential departure of Kylian Mbappé, it’s hard to argue that Paris Saint-Ger- main haven’t done their utmost to convince their young star to stay. At least, that is, if one judges by their transfer activity. The arrivals of Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Achraf Hakimi have bolstered Mauricio Pochettino’s side in key areas whilst also adding another layer of dynamism. If he can keep his squad happy and balanced, this team looks as potent as any in Europe, Elsewhere, Monaco are probably best-equipped to challenge, even as they will have to contend with playing European football. The arrivals of Myron Boadu, Alexander Nübel and Ismail Jakobs look to be upgrades, and so long as Niko Kovac’s exciting, front-foot football remains in place and so do all of its key elements. -

Arsenal's third successive UEFA Europa League group stage campaign began with three straight wins but they stuttered thereafter and needed a late comeback at Standard Liège on Matchday 6 to qualify as Group F winners. Previous meetings • The clubs have been paired together four times in the UEFA Champions League group stage, and on every occasion Arsenal have staged the home fixture on Matchday 2 and Olympiacos the return game on Matchday 6. • The first six matches between them – in 2009/10, 2011/12 and 2012/13 – all ended in home wins, but last time out, in 2015/16, the roles were reversed, Olympiacos winning 3-2 in north London only to succumb to a 0-3 defeat at home. -

Ligue-1-2016 2017.Pdf
A Note from the Editor: For many, Ligue 1 cannot restart quickly enough following an almost perfect, but fundamentally cruel EURO 2016 for France on home soil. The pain suffered on that night in Paris by Didier Deschamps’s men and an entire nation remains all the more heartrending because of the newfound professionalism that Les Bleus conducted themselves with throughout the tournament. Karim Benzema antics aside, contrary to years of squad infighting, the team spirit inside the French camp was the strongest it had been since 2000. On the pitch, France proved that they are on the cusp of a new golden generation, with Samuel Umtiti, Kingsley Coman and Antoine Griezmann all shining. Although some of Les Bleus’ much touted young guns fell short of expectations, namely Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial, France’s U19 EURO win further confirms that the future is astonishingly bright for French football on the international scene. One would not be foolish to expect there to be some turnover of talent for the 2018 World Cup cycle, with Patrice Evra and others’ involvement coming to an end. Much like Les Bleus therefore, Ligue 1 too can expect a very different feel for the 2016/17 season. PSG have entered a new era after President Al Khelaifi’s obsession for progression in the Champions’ League failed to be adequately satisfied by Laurent Blanc, leading to the latter’s dismissal. Les Parisiens have appointed Unai Emery in Blanc’s place, who brings a new-age management approach that relies on a squad instead of a team of individuals, a charge often leveled at Blanc’s PSG. -
The Gffn 100 2018: Ten to Watch
GFFN 100 2018 THE GFFN 100: AN INTRODUCTION Welcome to another edition of the Get French Football News 100. Published at the end of ev- ery year by GFFN, the guide you are reading is as detailed and comprehensive a set of player profiles as one is likely to find, especially in English. Some of these players are well-known, even to the casual fan, and though they have been the subjects of countless profiles, we hope that you can gain a bit more depth in knowledge of their stories. This is especially true with the likes of Neymar and his Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Kylian Mbappé. In 2018, neither was ever far from the limelight in a year in which France won the World Cup, thanks in large part to the teen- age sensation. Neymar may have garnered the odd headline for less positive reasons, but both remain as compelling off the pitch as they do on it. It is thus no surprise to see Mbappé top the rankings again; it does not take much objectivity to realise his immense talent and potential, but the present document is much more than a narra- tive driven by celebrity. We have watched the matches that do not generate headlines, seen the teams that are rarely on television, especially internationally, and artfully blended statistical anal- ysis with old-fashioned scouting to create what we feel is a definitive guide to the professionals currently plying their trade in France. If some rankings seem high, or low, read the profiles before making a snap decision as to our choices; this is a meritocracy.
