MAY 8-11, 2015 THE 4-DAY DHARMA TEACHING IN SEATTLE BY VENERABLE HUNGKAR DORJE RINPOCHE Friday, May 8 (AM): SANG CHÖ – SMOKE OFFERING Riwo Sangchö (Tib. རི་བོ་བསང་མཆོད་, Wyl. ri bo bsang mchod), or literally ‘Mountain Smoke Offering’, is a terma that was hidden by Guru Rinpoche and revealed in the seventeenth century by the great yogin and tertön Lhatsün Namkha Jikmé (1597-1653), who brought the Dharma to Sikkim, as part of the profound Dharma-cycle of Rigdzin Sokdrup, ‘Accomplishing the Life-Force of the Vidyadharas’. It is the most famous practice of sang offering in Tibetan Buddhism. Friday, May 8 (PM): IMPERMANENCE / MI-TAG-PA The purpose of this teaching is to help us to transform our ordinary understanding of impermanence to direct seeing of the nature of things and seeing impermanence can lead to liberation. In his recent teaching in Moscow, Hungkar Rinpoche said: "We have everything, we have all conditions to practice Dharma, but we lack of diligence". We really need diligence; we need the desire to practice dharma. We really need to understand IMPERMANENCE so that the it can stay in our awareness in our mind-stream. In our daily life, impermanence will become our friend to remind us when we are distracted and to have the diligence we need. In "Now That I Come to Die", Longchenpa placed a special emphasis on IMPERMANENCE. He uses the four words "TA-TA NYI NI" (right now) on almost every line to urge his students to practice Dharma. You will hear TA-TA NYI NI repeatedly on the recording of the “Now That I Come to Die” chanting by Hungkar Rinpoche for 28 minutes. With a few chosen words and the example of his own life, Longchenpa shows how things arise and pass away, revealing that the truth of enlightenment is always at hand. He reminds us that being aware of constant change and the shortness of life is a complete teaching in itself, encouraging us to maximize our time and energy while we still can. Saturday – Monday, May 9 – May 11 (AM): Now That I Come To Die - A Final Testament called "The Immaculate Light" By Kunkhyen Longchen Rabjampa At the age of fifty-six, having mastered the Dharma realms, Longchenpa announced that he had achieved what he had set out to do in this life. Before entering parinirvana, he dictated his last testament, Drimé Mepe Ö (Stainless Radiance), which is the topic of this teaching. In this, his final teaching given to his students, he urged them to prepare themselves well, taking full advantage of the opportunities that life offers for escaping the bonds of samsara. In this teaching, Longchenpa invites us to get started on the project of enlightenment. He shows us the steps we need to take to transform our ordinary life into an expression of enlightenment. On January 24, 1364, the master passed into parinirvana. The earth shook several times, and although it was mid-winter, flowers spontaneously erupted and blossomed.
