Bred by Prince Soltykoff. Sold to Mr. T. Large, Noteless was covered in 1896 by Grammont. Barren in 1897 and 1898 she was put out of the Stud. However, Noteless was considered suitable for polo, she was bought and trained for polo by Sir Joh Barker, Bart. Much later at the age of 20, she has a foal by Arthur D. The foal was Arthur’s Pride. Noteless was never owned by Mrs J Oscar Muntz but Arthur’s Pride was purchased and he arrived at Foxhams in 1915. NOTES: Much is written about Miss Agnes, bought by Sir Tatton Sykes with her first foal Little Agnes. She then bred Polly Agnes who later bred Lily Agnes, Tiger Lily and Jessie Agnes. From the ‘Book Of The Horse’ edited by Brian Vesey-Fitzgerald pg 543 “… the influence of this mare Miss Anges foaled in 1850 and got by Birdcatcher… may be described as phenomenal” her other well-known foals were Windermere and Frivolity. Birdcatcher (Irish) foaled in 1833 was a good racehorse and in his time a leading sire, one of his foals was the famous Miss Agnes and another was Darling’s Dam 1850. Bircatcher (Irish) by Sir Hercules died in March 1860 at the age of 27. Touchstone won the St Leger 1834 and the Ascot Gold Cup in 1836 and 1937. Unnamed Mares: Unfortunately, in the early years ‘mares’ were often not given names (those that were, were fortunate.) Very often, only the sire and date of birth were mentioned. An example here is ‘Sir Hercules mare 1839’ (this was probably quite clear to the breeder who had one breeding mare). However, carried out on a large scale and given different variations we find another example, ‘sister to Fox’. The only information we are given about ‘sister to Fox’ is that she was by Whisker who won the Derby in 1815, so with this minimal information it becomes very confusing. TIME LINE (any errors are mine alone) Imogen Mary Collier Born 6th July 1873 A 'Polo Pony,' to quote Captain E.D. Miller in his book, Modern Polo, (Second Edition 1902), “ … will have a spare leg for every emergency.” In 1869 when the 10th Hussars first brought the game to England there were six players on each side. The game changed and the pony developed, and by 1873 the number of players was reduced to five on each side. In June, a sub-committee was appointed to examine the purchase of, " Hurlingham House and estate" and establish whether Polo should be played there in 1874. Elizabeth Thompson (who later became Lady Elizabeth Butler), had her first oil painting accepted by the Royal Academy, entitled 'Missing,' an imaginary scene from the Franco-Prussian War. Strangely the original painting seems to be, 'missing', as only a photograph is known to exist. Anatomy of the Horse – an English Edition, translated by G. Fleming of a Treatise by Chauveau and Arlony, appeared. (Treatise – a formal piece of writing dealing with a subject in depth.) 1874 Earlier Taxes payable for all horses, mares and geldings were ended in the Budget of 1874 by, “The Remission of Horse Duties,” In May, at the Royal Academy's annual exhibition, item 142, 'Calling the Roll after an engagement,' by Elizabeth Thompson, (later Elizabeth Butler, now thought of as a, 'battle artist') was causing a sensation. It portrayed the, 'Grenadier Guards, after an engagement,' (during the Crimean War of 1854-56), this painting was purchased by Queen Victoria. 6th June - the first Polo Match was played at Hurlingham, in the presence of the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, and a large gathering of people.

TUESDAY, 14 JULY 2020 NEW JRHA RECORD FOR DEEP IMPACT COLT THE WEEKLY WRAP: By Emma Berry Almost a year after his death, Deep Impact (Jpn) still casts a BLUE IS THE COLOUR long shadow over Japanese racing and breeding and the legendary stallion was responsible for two new records and the six most expensive yearlings at the JHRA Select Sale, at which turnover was down only fractionally from a record-breaking session in 2019. The first record was set just 56 lots into the yearling session when his son out of the GII Santa Ynez S. winner Forever Darling (Congrats) sold for -400 million (,2.95m/i3.28m/$3.73m) to Masahiro Noda of Danox Co Ltd. That stood for only a matter of hours until lot 114 entered the ring. The dark brown colt, a half-brother to the Kentucky Oaks winner Cathryn Sophia (Street Boss) and offered by Northern Farm, swiftly set a new high price for the sale of -510 million (,3.77m/i4.19m/$4.75m) when Out on his own: the July Cup winner Oxted | Racing Post bought by Tetsuhide Kunimoto. WEDNESDAY, 23 SEPTEMBER 2020 DREAM UPDATE FOR EVEN SO SISTER MARKET HOLDS UP AT By Daithi Harvey There may have been relative silence at The Curragh in July TATTERSALLS IRELAND when the Ger Lyons-trained Even So (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) won the G1 Juddmonte Irish Oaks, but in the Boland household at Piercetown Stud in Meath the decibels were likely to have hit the high notes. Eight months previously the stud's owner Ronnie Boland and his son Aaron had bought a Footstepsinthesand (GB) half-sister to Even So as a foal at Goffs November for i22,000 and the now yearling filly will return to the sales ring with a massive update when she takes up her slot as lot 57 at the Goffs Orby Sale at Doncaster on Sept. 30. Being a half-sister to a Classic winner is no mean feat in itself; however, the pedigree is far from one dimensional, as the filly's dam Breeze Hill (Ire) (Danehill) is a half-sister to a brilliant Derby winner in Dr Devious (Ire) who also landed the G1 Irish Champion S. and the G1 Dewhurst S., as well as a champion sprinter in Archway (Ire). Despite my best efforts, I put down roots in Santa Barbara. Santa Barbara, a town of 90,000, sits on a narrow spit of land between the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Ynez Mountains on California’s Central Coast. It’s just far enough from Los Angeles to make frequent trips to Southern California’s megalopolis impracticable, and its vineyards, beaches, and sky-high real estate prices have earned the city its reputation as the American Riviera. Nothing about the place, in other words, suggested graduate school life. But when I arrived on campus in 2011, I encountered an extraordinary community. For better or worse, during my first years of course work the history department graduate student offices served as a social nexus. Any time day or night at least one of the following people could be found there, either working hard or looking to be distracted.
