His quiet songs can be both mournful, sparse, or richly orchestrated and joyful, and often explore loss, death, de- cay and transformation. His albums are often narrative based and explore a single idea. Paddy was born, and continues to live, in Melbourne’s inner city and his music has been greatly influenced and coloured by the urban settings he grew up in. He will be presenting a selection of songs that reflect the city’s presence, whether explicitly or as a frame of reference, and will be accompanied by a small ensemble. ABOUT THE ARTISTS Laura-Jean Englert is a musician from Melbourne, Victoria who performs as Laura Jean. She is known for her classically inspired folk songs, often using a range of orchestral instruments. Erkki Veltheim is a performer of legendary skills on both violin and viola, and stands at the forefront of new work crossing boundaries between improvisation and composition, electronics and vernacular idioms. Since moving to Melbourne in May 2009, Charlotte Jacke has worked as a cellist and instrumental teacher. She performs regularly as a freelance cellist in solo, chamber ensemble and orchestral capacities such as Orchestra Victoria, Arcko Symphonic Project, and Southern Cross. Lizzy Welsh is a violinist and specialises in the baroque violin. As either soloist or chamber musician, Lizzy has appeared at the Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory Music, the Adelaide Festival, the Melbourne International Arts Festival, the Melbourne Jazz Festival, Springfest at the University of California San Diego, to name a few. Biddy Connor has composed, arranged and performed for a diverse range of projects including film, television, theatre, large-scale community events and installations. She plays viola, musical saw, piano and sings. She is the founding member of the new music group The Letter String Quartet. Continued over page... Genevieve Fry is a harpist and composer and has been playing in the Grand Salvo ensemble since 2008. She is the principal writer for the psych-folk band Cold Hands Warm Heart whose self titled debut LP was released earlier this year on Eastmint Records. Zoe Jackson is a pianist and hell brainiac and has also been a member of Grand Salvo since 2008. Since wrapping up her much loved solo project Light Music Club, she has played in various groups around Melbourne, however she mostly contemplates the diaphanous and rarified higher concepts that govern our metaphysical existence. Lisa Salvo fronts the band On Diamond, and is a member of the Furbelows. On Diamonds debut LP I Could Have Been A Castle was released on vinyl in 2015 on Eastmint Records. Equally as comfortable in settings as diverse as folk and pop as she is in jazz and avant-garde improvisation, Hannah Cameron is a lauded and in-demand vocalist. Also a member of On Diamond, she has produced a 2013 self titled EP and the 2015 LP ‘Blow my House Down’. Michelle Surowiec is a classically trained soprano who has sung in various choirs in Australia and the US. She is a member of the Astra choir and an Astra board member.
