The Community Arts Program (CAP) 2021 VIRTUAL Summer Concert Series concludes with Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue! GRAMMY® Award winners John Daversa and Tal Cohen have an evening of something for everyone – and the perfect marriage between trumpet and piano. Here comes the (musical) ride! John Daversa—trumpeter, composer, arranger, producer, bandleader, educator, and Schilke and BFM recording artist—is a 2019 multiple, GRAMMY®-Award-winning artist for Best Large Jazz Ensemble (American Dreamers: Voices of Hope, Music of Freedom), Best Instrumental Arrangement (on “Stars and Stripes Forever” in American Dreamers: Voices of Hope, Music of Freedom), and Best Improvised Jazz Solo (on “Don’t Fence Me In” in American Dreamers: Voices of Hope, Music of Freedom). In addition to his other accolades, John is a recipient of the Herb Alpert Award, the David Joel Miller Award, the National Trumpet Competition, the ITG Jazz Soloist Competition, and a finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music from The University of California, Los Angeles, a Master of Fine Arts in Jazz Studies at California Institute of the Arts, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Studies at the University of Southern California. Tal Cohen, GRAMMY® Award-winning jazz pianist, has received much acclaim including winning the Barry Harris National Piano Competition, and receiving the prestigious Freedman Fellowship. Recently, Tal has been playing around the Globe with Terence Blanchard, Greg Osby, Ignacio Berroa, Joe Lovano, and others. He currently leads his ensemble that has performed at Iconic jazz festivals and venues to include Jazzbez Jazz Festival (Ukraine), Detroit Jazz Festival, Jazz Festival (), and a three-week residency at the Black Cat (San Francisco). His most recent album, Gentle Giants, has received international acclaim and gained him many reviews, including a four-star review from the historic Downbeat Magazine. Tal has become one of the most in-demand pianists as he continues to tour the globe with his unique blend of Jewish melodies, traditional jazz harmony, and an impeccable rhythmic pallet forging a path to be remembered.
