The museum building is the only surviving station from the old railway and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Three new exhibits have been added: the Explorations of Captain John Smith featuring the 1632 book written by the explorer, a War of 1812 exhibit featuring Francis Scott Key and the Star-Spangled Banner and a “day at the beach” exhibit featuring vintage swimsuits and photos of life at a seaside community. Hours: Wednesday through Sunday, 1-4 p.m. Delighted to open for groups upon request. Rates: $2 per person Day 1, 4 p.m.

Where tobacco once hung, local art now resides and wine now ages in oak barrels. Visitors are welcomed to stroll the grounds, sample and purchase the locally produced fare. Motorcoach friendly. More than 70 archaeological sites have been identified on the property, reflecting over 12,000 years of human occupation. Tour exhibits in the visitor center and exhibit barn, browse the gift shop, hike miles of trails, discover the Indian Village, launch a canoe or kayak, rent the pavilion or just enjoy the beautiful views. Also on the grounds is the Archaeological Conservation Laboratory (MAC Lab), a state-of-the-art archaeological research, conservation and curation facility. The largest naval engagement ever to occur in Maryland happened during the War of 1812 in the Patuxent River at the mouth of St. Leonard Creek, the location of Jefferson Patterson Park. You will learn of the many projects planned for the anniversary of the War of 1812. Limited wheelchair access. Hours: Park grounds and trails, open daily 7:30 a.m.-dusk; Visitor Center open mid-April through mid- October, Wednesday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and late October through early April, Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Rates: Self-guided tours of the grounds are free.
