Masangcay1, Maria Lourdes Dorothy G. Lacuna*2 1Department of Biology, College of Arts and Sciences, Caraga State University, Ampayon Campus National Highway, NH1, Butuan City, Philippines 2Department of Biological Sciences, College of Science and Mathematics, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, Iligan City, Philippines Article published on September 30, 2017 Key words: Cerithium stercusmuscarum, Drupella margariticola, total organic matter, calcium carbonate, density. Abstract Composition, diversity and abundance of rocky intertidal mollusks and their relationship with the environmental parameters, viz. water quality, total organic matter and calcium carbonate were determined. A total of 43 species were identified, of which 41 species belong to Class Gastropoda under 18 families and 2 species were categorized under Class Bivalvia from 2 families. Using several diversity indices, results revealed high diversity and equitability values in the 2 sampling sites. Moreover, comparison of the mollusks abundance between the 2 sampling stations showed station 2 to be dominantly abundant with Cerithium stercusmuscarum comprising almost one-third of the total population. Canonical Correspondence Analysis showed that total organic matter and calcium carbonate in the sediment may have influenced the abundance of mollusk assemblage in station 2. The results obtained from the study are vital in order to strongly support the need to continue monitoring the Lugait marine sanctuary and its nearby surroundings.

  • Mollusca, Neogastropoda) from the Mozambique Channel and New Caledonia
Bull. Mus. natn. Hist, nat., Paris, 4e ser., 3, 1981, section A, n° 4 : 985-1009. On a collection of buccinacean and mitracean Gastropods (Mollusca, Neogastropoda) from the Mozambique Channel and New Caledonia by W. 0. CERNOHORSKY Abstract. — The present paper deals with a collection of 59 species of buccinacean and mitra- cean gastropods belonging to 4 families from moderately shallow to deep water around the Mozam- bique Channel area, north of Madagascar. A total of 27 % of the species recovered are new geogra- phical range extensions. The New Caledonian material consists of 21 species belonging to 5 fami- lies, and was dredged, with one exception, in moderately deep water. A total of 38 % of the New Caledonian species represent new geographical records, and one of these is a new species : Voluto- mitra (Waimatea) vaubani n. sp. The new name Vexillum (Costellaria) duplex is proposed for the homonymous Mitra simphcissima Schepman, 1911, and its var. glabra Schepman, 1911.

Abstract: The availability of data sets covering more than a year is scarce for tropical environments. Advances in hardware and software speed-up the re-analysis of old data sets and facilitates the identification of hidden data patterns. From February 1984 to April 1987 (49 sampling dates), core samples (17.7cm2, 15cm deep) were collected at low tide at a sand-mud flat in the mid upper Gulf of Nicoya estuary, Pacific, Costa Rica.

63 Corresp.-bladNed. Malac. This new Iconography attempts to fill this need...'
