Office of International Education Country Report Croatia and Romania Highlights Romanian scholars consistently collaborate with UGA faculty to produce joint academic output, with main areas of co-publication including Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry. From 2007-2017, these collabora- tions resulted in 90 co-publications. The Higher Education Initiative for Southeastern Europe, a collabo- ration between UGA’s Institute of Higher Education and the Center for Advanced Studies in Southeast Europe at the University of Rijeka in Croa- tia, is designed to assist in developing high quality teaching among partner in- stitutions and to stimulate excellence in institutional management and governance through appropriate degree programs and continuing professional education seminars. UGA’s partnership with Babeş Bolyai university in Cluj-Napoca, Romania spans many fields, including Journalism and Chemistry. This latter area of collaboration has resulted in numerous publications in leading chemical journals. Summary Today the main problems of the islands are the poor demographic picture caused KEY WORDS by depopulation, low birth rate, prevalence of the elderly population, and relatively island’s population low economic activities. In that reason, the paper presents the influence of the traffic transport connection between connections between Croatian’s islands and mainland on the demographic picture islands and mainland of the islands. The aim of this paper is to conduct systematic and scientifically island’s economy research of influence various factors on the demographic picture of the islands in sustainable development order to insure the sustainable development of the islands and the retention of the inhabitants on the islands. This paper analyzes the population of Croatian’s islands according to the latest census and the category is correlated with the most prominent limiting factor of development, which is the traffic connection between islands and mainland. The research shows that the improvement of traffic connection and increased density of traffic network between islands and mainland does not have a direct impact on the number of island’s population, but it has a positive impact on all economic and social activities, by creating the prerequisites for sustainable development of the islands and raising the quality of life on islands, as evidenced by the growth of the island’s population on bridged islands and drop population in small islands and islands unrelated to bridges. -

ReportReport onon thethe CurrentCurrent StateState ofof CombinedCombined TransportTransport inin EuropeEurope EUROPEAN CONFERENCE OF MINISTERS TRANSPORT EUROPEAN CONFERENCE OF MINISTERS OF TRANSPORT REPORT ON THE CURRENT STATE OF COMBINED TRANSPORT IN EUROPE EUROPEAN CONFERENCE OF MINISTERS OF TRANSPORT (ECMT) The European Conference of Ministers of Transport (ECMT) is an inter-governmental organisation established by a Protocol signed in Brussels on 17 October 1953. It is a forum in which Ministers responsible for transport, and more speci®cally the inland transport sector, can co-operate on policy. Within this forum, Ministers can openly discuss current problems and agree upon joint approaches aimed at improving the utilisation and at ensuring the rational development of European transport systems of international importance. At present, the ECMT's role primarily consists of: ± helping to create an integrated transport system throughout the enlarged Europe that is economically and technically ef®cient, meets the highest possible safety and environmental standards and takes full account of the social dimension; ± helping also to build a bridge between the European Union and the rest of the continent at a political level. The Council of the Conference comprises the Ministers of Transport of 39 full Member countries: Albania, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (F.Y.R.O.M.), Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Moldova, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, the Russian Federation, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and the United Kingdom. The aim of this thesis and accompanying research is to choose three serious, relevant, scientific and academic articles in Croatian, translate and analyse them in English. The thesis is structured in the following way: after a brief introduction there is an article, i.e. a source text in Croatian, followed by the translation and an analysis of the translation. The purpose of the analyses is to explain the process of translating and to reveal different types of problems and challenges which were encountered. After the third translation analysis there is a conclusion, where the entire thesis is summed up and assessed. A bibliography, i.e. the sources, is included at the very end of the B.A. thesis.
