History of TheatreZone

TheatreZone’s magical history… Every theatre company has an interesting history and TheatreZone is no exception. TheatreZone is Collier County’s professional Equity Regional Theatre Company, which brings the “Lost Treasures of Broadway” to Southwest Florida audiences. P R E S E N T S After living in New York City and working on Broadway, Mark Danni was offered a position to start a theatre program at The 2017-2018 SEASON Community School of Naples (CSN). In May 2002, Mark and his wife, Karen Edgy, Eclectic…Extraordinary! Molnar, a professional choreographer, moved to Naples, Florida. By 2005, Mark successfully established a theatre program at CSN which paved the way for the creation of TheatreZone, a not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporation. With its incorporation, the TheatreZone Board began the process of obtaining a Small Rising Professional Theatres Contract with the Actors’ Equity Association (the professional actors’ union). An association with Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) is an integral Stars part of a theatre company’s ability to insure quality, attract the best actors, and gain S E R I E S respect in the industry. Mark was convinced that securing a contract with Actors’ Equity Association would assist in validating TheatreZone as a regional theatre. He notes: “Professionalism in every field is the realm of those who have found their true calling. Whether it’s medicine, law, engineering, music or theatre, professionals don’t just display talent; they further their natural gifts by dedicating themselves to years of study with the most knowledgeable and experienced teachers. Often they go through arduous apprenticeships as they hone their craft.” Now it was time for TheatreZone’s inaugural season, March, 2006. A fan of Gary Sandy (WKRP in Cincinnati), Mark approached him to star in TheatreZone’s first production. When Gary agreed, Mark chose ’s musical, Mack & Mabel, to showcase his talents. The starring role of seemed perfect for Gary. Mark contacted Jerry Herman who allowed him to rework the show. Jazz Maxine Ginsberg of the Naples Daily News wrote: “There’s a new kid on the local & theatrical block by the name of TheatreZone. The new arrival strutted its stuff for Blues the first time Thursday night with its production of Mack & Mabel… The production delighted the audience, as might be expected. Theater lovers always appreciate good S E R I E S material well presented.” Tickets and Information ~ (239) 775-2800 The rest is history!
