  • MONDAY 31 St DECEMBER 2007 14 Th DALESIDE BREWERY AULD
MONDAY 31 s t DECEMBER 2007 14 th DALESIDE BREWERY AULD LANG SYNE 6M/900FT WOW, 19 year old medical student, Alistair Brownlee, clinically dissected the best quality field ever assembled for this finale to the fell running season, just like he did at the Chevin Chase on Boxing Day. An awesome 474 runners turned out to collect their bottle of Daleside Brewery, Old Legover beer, a traditional Yorkshire beer that is described as 'nutty with a fruity taste' just like a lot of the runners? The neck of the bottle had either a picture of the delectable Olivia Walwyn or the handsome Simon Bailey, these were last years winners, so Alistair will now be immortalised on the 2008 brew. The 2006 junior World Triathlon champion, and current European champion was itching for a fast race from the word go, and only recent Stoop race winner and 2004 ALS winner, Andi Jones, who the previous day clocked 30-14 at the Reebock 10k race went with the pace. These two raced it out neck and neck, until the final descent into Sladen beck, where the 10 years Andi was giving Alistair finally took it's toll, as the youngster joyfully descended with much gusto. The very wet climb back to Penistone Hill enabled Alistair to secure his victory, and cross the finish line to set a new course record of 39-07. The previous best was 40-55 by Ian Holmes in 2005, and then equalled by Simon last year. The quality of the field was shown in that the first four broke the previous record, with another international, 26 year old James Walsh of Leeds City third and eleven times winner Ian Holmes fourth and first over 40 with a new record.

  • Columbia Threadneedle Rankings Report ITU World Triathlon
Columbia Threadneedle Rankings Report ITU World Triathlon, London Welcome to the fourth Columbia Threadneedle Rankings Report of 2015, a new series initiated by Columbia Threadneedle Investments which will be distributed after each ITU World Triathlon Series Event. The Report will review the Columbia Threadneedle Rankings and results to identify trends and spot interesting statistics and stories as the 2015 season develops. Women’s Review Once again, we have to start with Gwen Jorgensen! Another Gwensanity masterclass in London from the reigning ITU World Champion and Columbia Threadneedle Rankings leader was her tenth consecutive WTS victory. She now matches the career WTS medals record of Australia’s Emma Moffat with 16 in total, 13 of those being victories. This latest win was also a milestone in terms of defending her World Championship title. With five wins already in 2015, Gwen will have the maximum number of rankings points possible (4000), when she races at the Chicago Grand Final. In the our first report after the Gold Coast event we highlighted that the U.S. women’s podium sweep in Australia was, at that point, only the second time in WTS history that one country had filled all of the podium spots in one race. Well, in London they did it again, and with the same three athletes too. Joining Jorgensen on the podium, this time around Katie Zaferes was able to get the better of Sarah True for the Silver medal. It’s a remarkable run of U.S. consistency which has resulted in the Stars and Stripes earning 12 of the 18 women’s medals awarded in WTS events this season.

The ‘royal we’ reflects all who have committed to the aspiration of excellence, in achieving our personal triathlon challenges, whether representing Great Britain, proudly, in any of our GE Great Britain Teams, or committing to the numerous and essential support roles, from organising races, coaching, officiating, managing, volunteering and administrating. British Triathlon is most grateful. It has been an enormous privilege to hear the National Anthem at almost every international triathlon event I have attended this year. It was played nine Dr Sarah Springman OBE times in Beijing at the World Championships Grand Final for our elite athletes President and paratriathletes.

  • 31St DECEMBER 2015 the 22ND DALESIDE AULD LANG SYNE 9.6
31st DECEMBER 2015 THE 22ND DALESIDE AULD LANG SYNE 9.6KM/300M When you hear the bagpipes playing on Penistone Hill it can only mean one thing it's the last race of the year and your last chance to end the season on a high or put a bad season behind you, either way it'll be time to celebrate afterwards no matter what the outcome. Horwich RMI Harrier Chris Farrell certainly celebrated by winning the race by 16 seconds from Tom Adams who rules the roost over the Haworth Moor races of the Bunny Runs, Stanbury Splash, Withins and Stoop events, and has yet to win the ALS. 'I had no idea of the route, but knew it was more a tough trails race than an out and out fell race which suited me down to the ground. I sat in behind Tom and at Top Withins ruin I just managed to hang on to him as he made his move, on the way back my confidence was growing, at the return beck crossing Tom was just ahead and I was expecting him to pull away since he is a great climber. So I was surprised when I passed him and opened a gap, once on the track I was sure of my speed. That last climb was really tough on the legs though, the boggy ground took it's toll. My Christmas target was the Ribble Valley 10k where I hoped to improve on my 30.35 time, but with the floods cancelling the race the ALS could be run on fresher legs.
