Before writing great musicals such as “Oklahoma!”, “”, “” and “The Sound Of Music” in collaboration with lyricist Oscar Hammerstein 2nd, Richard Rodgers had a long collaboration with the lyricist Lorenz Hart and “Pal Joey” is the most famous of all the musicals they wrote together. A classic Broadway Musical originally starring in the title role and subsequently adapted as a film starring , “Pal Joey” centres around Joey, an opportunistic cad who always seems to land on his feet. He elbows his way into a job at a seedy nightclub and is soon juggling the affections of a naïve shop girl and a wealthy society dame who just happens to be married. The resultant story is full of wonderful music and foot tapping dance routines with songs such as “If They Asked Me ” and “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered”.
