Talk Is Free Theatre engages under the terms of the Independent Theatre Agreement professional artists who are members of the Canadian Actors’ Equity Association. Talk Is Free Theatre is an active member of PACT. CHAIR’S GREETINGS Greetings and welcome “Pals” of Talk is Free Theatre (TIFT), long standing and new, to TIFT’s fabulous 18th season. It should come as no surprise to anyone who has attended previous TIFT performances that this season, with the unstoppable Artistic Producer Arkady Spivak at the helm, is nothing short of AMAZING! The season begins with TIFT’s new Pal, Joey. What can I say? The incredible lineup of talent that is featured in this smart, sassy production, with long term pals of TIFT; Esther Jun, Justin Stadnyk, Joe Pagnan and an incredibly talented cast and crew, AND, great music (Rogers and Hart), as the icing on the proverbial cake, is sure to delight all. Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of our donors, sponsors, volunteers, and our committed patrons who so appreciate and continue to celebrate the great cultural gift that Mr. Spivak has bestowed upon all who have had the good fortune to experience (one does not simply observe) this theatre’s wares and guiding philosophy. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of our fine supporters and as well, the irreplaceable Cara (McRae), our “Giddy Aunt” and the “Great Gilroys”. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Now, sit back and let yourself become “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered”.

Kathryn Talbot Chair

-www.tift.ca- ARTISTIC PRODUCER’S GREETING Dear Patrons,

Welcome to the first production of our 18th season that celebrates the beauty that is present in the struggle and is exemplified by this theatrical experience. Blending substance with spectacle, Musicals have the unique ability to portray the dark corners of the human condition in a captivating way. The partnership of Rodgers & Hart raised the bar of Broadway song-writing as they introduced dazzling, playful, and sometimes melancholic songs that broke the mould of ‘sameness’ of the time and created palpable connections to the real world. Rodgers, Hart and O’Hara dared to depict the flaws in human nature and create a world draped in shadow that echoes our own, and with this sense of adventure we present Pal Joey. Each of the characters you’re about to see are searching for a place to belong, a purpose to realize and their passion to do so comes at a price. There are many instances of less-than-cordial behavior throughout but there is strength in these characters as they struggle to be more than what the world expects them to be.

-www.tift.ca- -www.tift.ca- SEATS OF SIGNIFICANCE

You’re invited to join our unique and limited opportunity to “purchase” a seat for Tales of an Urban Indian presented on city buses around the world over the next three years.

Tales of an Urban Indian is staged on a moving city bus and currently stars the Royal Canadian Air Farce’s Craig Lauzon. The production is on a national and international tour for the next three years. Confirmed stops include Ottawa, Saint John and Toronto in Canada, and Brisbane and Melbourne internationally, among others.

Our goal with the production is to reach remote and isolated destinations that have no existing access to professional theatre. This would include the Reserves and geographically isolated locations. Tales of an Urban Indian will help build those communities through important conversations where they are needed the most. At the same time, we will establish a network of interesting new communities, not currently served by others, where Barrie artists can continue to create work in the near future. This will help promote our city as an important cultural centre and further grow new opportunities as well as a new image for Barrie.

How will we recognize your donation? To celebrate an honour your commitment to extending the reach and impact of Indigenous stories, your seat will feature a custom plaque recognizing and honouring an important indigenous person or historic event. You’ll receive an acknowledgement in the program and a stamped passport telling its own tale of the journey our production has taken over the three years. You or your guests will receive two tickets to anywhere in the world we’re presenting Tales of an Urban Indian, each of the three years of your donation. A tax receipt will also be offered, if required.

What’s involved? Your $3000 donation (in one lump sum or by installments), “buys” you one of the remaining seats.

For more information, please contact: Arkady Spivak Artistic Producer (705) 792-1949 ext 122 or [email protected]
