For example, it was 46 years ago that a Cup Final was last played at a later date: in 1974, the final match between Eintracht and Hamburger SV (3:1 after extra time) was played following the World Cup on August 17.

In its rich decades of history, the DFB Cup has made many footballers unforgettable heroes. In order to honor them, Volkswagen, together with the German Football Association and the TV sports channel SPORT1, launched the “DFB Cup Walk of Fame” in 2013. Located at the Berlin Olympic Stadium, the greatest cup heroes of the past and present are immortalized with their footprints or (for goalkeepers and coaches) handprints. To date, 24 players that left their mark on the DFB Cup have been recorded. Among them , , or Thomas Radlspeck. Last year, Bayern striker Lewandowski was honored as a Cup Hero.
