  • Postfinance and Swissquote Enter Into Joint Venture
Media information Gland/Zurich, 11 November 2020 Digital banking PostFinance and Swissquote enter into joint venture Swissquote and PostFinance are the leading providers of online financial services in Switzerland. They have collaborated successfully on online trading for several years. They are now set to extend their partnership: the two companies plan to launch a joint digital banking app and have signed a letter of intent. At the beginning of September 2020, PostFinance announced its intention to accelerate digital transformation in the new “SpeedUp” strategy period. Its plans include the launch of a radical, new service for “Banking & Beyond” geared entirely to the digital world over the course of the coming year. Digital banking is a key element of Swissquote’s strategy. In line with the bank’s innovative drive, the launch of this app is the next logical step to develop its wide range of services. Work on the app has been under way for some time. It will now be further refined as part of this joint venture. Both partners see major benefits in such a collaboration. The transaction still has to go through the usual official approval process. Further details will be released when a concrete range of services is ready to be launched on the market. This is scheduled for the first half of 2021. It is a great pleasure for me to introduce CFTE's first research report "Fintech 50: 5 Years in Fintech". Our mission at CFTE is to help organisations and people transform themselves at a time when technology is quickly reshaping financial services. Some organisations will leverage technology and thrive. Others will not be able to adapt, and fall behind. The same will apply to people. But we hope that with the right knowledge, mindset and network, many will make the most of today's opportunities in finance. This report will hopefully help towards this goal, and give readers an understanding of how Fintech has evolved during the last 5 years - and give them some hints on how Fintech will further develop in the future. For the tens of thousands of CFTE participants around the world, you will notice that many of the concepts discussed in the courses can explain the developments mentioned in this report. Although the future is hard to predict, there are definitely some important trends that will continue to shape financial services. For me, if there was only one to mention, that would be the democratisation of financial services through technology, and that makes me very hopeful about the next 5 years in Fintech. Enjoy reading the report, and hope to see you join the CFTE community around the world. Outlook: Stable Standard & Poor's Ratings Services' stable outlook on PostFinance AG reflects that on its ultimate owner, the Swiss Confederation. We expect that the Swiss Post group's very close links to the state, its ownership, and its mandate to provide key public services will not change in the foreseeable future. Moreover, the outlook reflects our view that the group will maintain a sound financial profile that will be relatively resilient against increasing economic imbalances in Switzerland. We regard core members of the Swiss Post group, including PostFinance, as government-related entities (GREs) with an extremely high likelihood of receiving extraordinary government support if needed, since Swiss Post group operates essentially on behalf of the government, provides key public services to the Swiss population, and has a very strong and durable link with the Swiss government.
