For me, it is the writings and poetry of my late For what nostalgic dream should I repine? wife, Evelyn, who bequeathed them to me. I will forever I laughed and loved through magic moonlit hours treasure them in my mind. Share with me this poem of hers from 1990. And felt the throbbing heart beat close to mine Reflections Have I not known the Relentlessly the years warmth of glowing sun have sped away And strolled amid crisp Sweeping along the leaves of autumn gold – hopes, the dreams, the fears; And gazed, enchanted by a baby’s smile, Longings, half stifled but still deep within Filled with the solemn wonder of it all? Disturb the even rhythm of the tide It seems that only emptiness remains – Oh half-forgotten phantom that was youth, Yet, dwelling deep within the heart’s retreat, What quenched the fiery spirit on the way A sad sweet something lingers wistfully – And dimmed the vital spark that shone within Maybe the distant echo of a dream. Whilst we’re on the subject of Ralli Hall events, we are always happy to talk to members of the community who have always wanted to run their own club (with a Jewish theme of course), but don’t have anywhere to run it. Well, that’s where we can help from our Community Centre. If you have an idea, we can offer you an available, suitable space and work together. Many of our clubs are run by volunteers on a simple arrangement that suits you and more importantly, provides a service to the local Jewish community. We look forward to hearing your ideas. With everyone keeping a two meter distance from his blue suede shoes he belted out classic hits, this was a performance to remember.
