TEXAS TECH SIGNING CLASS AMONG BEST IN THE NATION Tech’s early signing class ranks first among Big 12 programs and 14th nationally by Perfect Game

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech announced its 2015 early signing class Tuesday morning as third‐ year head coach Tim Tadlock and his staff assembled the No. 14 recruiting class in the country – tops in the Big 12 – while being the only program in the country to sign three of the top 31 high school players in the nation to national letters of intent.

The high school standouts and junior‐college prospects that inked NLI’s with the Red Raiders during the early signing period will join the Tech baseball program in the fall of 2015.

Outfielder Trent Clark (Richland, Texas), right‐handed /infielder Tony Santillan (Arlington, Texas) and infielder/outfielder Josh Naylor (Mississauga, Ontario) are ranked 9th, 29th and 31st, respectively, among all high school prospects in North America (rankings by Perfect Game).

The Red Raiders signed five junior college prospects and 13 high school standouts. The Red Raiders class includes 13 players from the state of Texas and also players from Delaware, California, Arkansas, Georgia and Canada.

“This signing class is two‐fold for our staff,” Tadlock said. “It was very good before we ended our 2014 season in Omaha, and continued to progress throughout late summer and fall. There is no doubt that all Red Raiders before us and most notably our 2014 team helped build this class with the success we had late last spring.

“J‐Bob Thomas’ work ethic is off the charts and continues to stay ahead of the pack. This group of is a compliment to Ray Hayward and Matt Gardner. Ray’s pedigree and success speaks for itself and to have Matt assisting him has really been good for our staff. There are guys up and down this recruiting class who specifically wanted to work with Ray and Matt throughout their collegiate careers.

“Joe Hughes and I were visiting about this group of hitters this morning and could not figure out any team anywhere that could not plug in Clark, Naylor and Blaine Prescott. Those three guys have tools that really stand out. With that being said, if Santillan wanted to just play infield he could do it for a long time. The rest of the bunch: Fowler, Farhat and Williams, are our type of guys who will benefit from playing in one of the best leagues in the country.

“This group of freshmen pitchers: Martin, Santillan, Nicholson, Shetter, Harpenau, Lanning, Mathis and Coates – could anchor our staff through 2018, and then you have Eden, Howard, Simon and Dugger who will bring a lot to the table in 2016. TexasTech.com @TechAthletics

“This is a special group for our program. There are guys up and down this class that have won a bunch of baseball games on the state and national level who will keep our program on the path to Omaha. There will be some tough decisions once June and the MLB Draft come around, but we feel like this is a confident group that understands what a degree from Tech will do for them down the road and that time here will be three of four of the best years of their lives.”
