RALLYRACC RALLY DE ESPAÑA 21 OCTOBER – 24 OCTOBER 2010 FIA JUNIOR WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP (FOR DRIVERS) ROUND 6 OF 6 STATISTICS 1. Event Summary 4. Driver Championship Standings 2. Driver Quotes 5. Next Round 3. Results (Event) 1. EVENT SUMM ARY Local hero Lemes claims maiden victory; Burkart makes history as last ever J-WRC Champion* After one of the most unpredictable J-WRC showdowns ever, it was German pairing Aaron Burkart and his co- driver Andre Kachel who, despite finishing in fourth place, drove their Suzuki Swift home to claim the 2010 FIA Junior World Rally Championship title * on the final round of the Junior series at Rally de España. Meanwhile, local partnership Yeray Lemes (ESP, Renault) and Rogelio Peñate were jubilant to win their first ever J-WRC round on their home event after a clean and stylish drive, only interrupted by a puncture on SS13. Having set consistently quick times throughout the season, Lemes took the lead from the opening stage of his home event, proving his form and pulling out a 44-second lead on Championship contender Hans Weijs Jnr (NLD, Citroën) on Day One. But after three years in the J-WRC, Weijs wasn’t about to give up without a fight when he had the Championship title within his grasp. Having got through the gravel stages of Day One, the young Dutchman felt more at home on the familiar tarmac stages that followed, which he’d expertly negotiated to comfortably win the Junior category in Spain last year. Refusing to hold anything in reserve, Weijs attacked with such unwavering confidence that on SS8 and SS9 he clocked top 10 overall times in his 2WD Citroën.

Motorsport Information FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), Rally Portugal Volkswagen lines up with three Polo R WRCs for first time Wolfsburg (08 April 2013). Fourth rally, fourth first: Volkswagen will line up with three Polo R WRCs for the first time at the Rally Portugal. After a strong debut in the FIA World Rally Championship at January’s Rally Monte Carlo, the Polo R WRC then started its first event on ice and snow at the Rally Sweden in February, before making its first outing on gravel at high altitude at the Rally Mexico. From 11 to 14 April, the Rally Portugal will provide the stage for another first: Andreas Mikkelsen and Mikko Markkula (N/FIN) will make their debut in the third Polo R WRC – the number 9 car. They will be joined at the rally on the Algarve coast in southern Portugal by their Volkswagen team-mates: Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) and the winners of the rallies in Sweden and Mexico, Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia (F/F). “After three completely different rallies at the start of the season, the first ‘typical’ WRC rally awaits us in Portugal,” said Volkswagen Motorsport Director Jost Capito. “Tough gravel routes, spring temperatures and – unlike at the Rally Mexico – stages at just above sea level: we will probably come across the same kind of conditions at the coming rallies in Argentina, Greece and Italy. As such, the Rally Portugal provides us with another important indicator of what the Polo R WRC is capable of. Furthermore, we will also send a third driving pair into action at every rally from now on, in the form of Andreas Mikkelsen and Mikko Markkula.

PRESSINFORMATION Marcus Thomasfolk Kontaktperson Informationschef 08 553 867 97 Telefon 070 35 896 57 Mobil [email protected] E-post 2013-03-07 Datum Ska Volkswagen upprepa Sverige-succén i Mexico?

The change didn’t facilitate life for competitors and the win ended up going to the crew who most successfully combined speed and consistency, while also steering clear of the ninth round’s notorious pitfalls. That crew was Dani SORDO/Carlos DEL BARRIO in the N°3 CITROEN DS3 WRC (CITROEN Total ABU DHABI World Rally Team). The Spaniard delivered a faultless run to collect the first world class victory of his career. He completed the week’s first stage in fourth position, on the heels of the other early pace-setters Sébastien OGIER (Volkswagen Polo R WRC), Jari-Matti LATVALA (Volkswagen Polo R WRC) and Thierry NEUVILLE (FORD Fiesta RS WRC - Qatar World Rally Team). The Spanish pair then started to apply increasing pressure as the rally progressed. They were promoted to third overall when Volkswagen Motorsport’s Ogier crashed on Friday morning, and appeared in second place after Saturday afternoon’s wet SS12 (‘Stein & Wein 2’) which saw Jari-Matti LATVALA crash out after previously damaging his car on SS11 (‘Arena- Panzerplatte 1’). Sordo then completed Saturday’s action in front, 0.8s clear of Thierry NEUVILLE after SS13 (‘Peterberg 2’, the last stage of the day following the cancellation SS14/’Arena-Panzerplatte 2’).
