Position Summary – Chief Executive Officer Reporting to the Crusaders Ltd Partnership Board, you will be responsible for clearly articulating the vision, increasing revenue and profitability by leveraging the brand, global community, commercial assets and marketing infrastructure to ensure a sustainable, high performance business not only financially but also through continued success by winning titles and entertaining the local and global Crusaders community. You will provide leadership to continue to develop the Crusaders strategy; expand the portfolio of commercial partners; maximise media and brand opportunities to enhance the reach and distribution of consumers and grow match day revenue. You will also oversee the development of world class coaching and player programmes by ensuring there are the resources available to build on the Crusaders success. You will have proven success working in a commercial senior executive position within the professional sports sector and/or with a high-performing commercial brand within the private sector in New Zealand and/or offshore. You will possess exceptional leadership capabilities and qualities, strong commercial acumen and demonstrate outstanding ability to build, develop and harness sustainable relationships and partners across diverse stakeholder groups locally, nationally and internationally. You will have an engaging leadership style and presence as well as excellent ability to influence and a deep passion for the growth and development of professional sport, in particular rugby union.

Accountabilities

Strategic Leadership • Provide inspiring leadership and clear direction to the Crusaders business and the professional rugby sector • Lead and monitor the development and imple mentation of strategic and operational goals and plans • Develop and implement growth strategies aligned to strategic objectives. • Continually identify and adapt in response to internal and external influences • Provide leadership advice and direction to management and staff • Engage and develop a highly talented and capable structure that achieve performance objectives • Develop a culture of innovation and high performance excellence

Governance and Reporting • Provide accurate and timely reports to the Board on all matters of strategic importance and/or matters that require a governance decision • Advise and present recommendations to the Board at its 11 normal meetings per year • Prepare and present information as required at the Crusaders’ AGM • Work with the Board to enable it to fulfill its governance functions efficiently and effectively • Ensure that the Board is presented with clear and logical recommendations for action, preferably well before every Board meeting to allow time for clarification and proper consideration. • Ensure appropriate governance and operational frameworks are in place to ensure the necessary financial, administrative and organisational resources are embedded • Establish systems to identify and manage risks within the framework of the Risk Management Register endorsed by the Board

Operations • Manage and conduct the business of Crusaders with all reasonable skill and diligence and undertake full and effective control of the practical operation in accordance with the law and the policies, objectives and regulations determined by the Board, shareholders, NRFU and SANZAAR • Ensure the continued development and maintenance of best practice facilities that support our strategic and operational goals and objectives • Adopt evidence-based research to guide decisions and ensure access to world class analysis tools • Lead and oversee the development and maintainenance of systems and technology that support strategic goals and objectives • Maintain compliance with legal, employment, H&S and other statutory compliance obligations • Ensure our facilities and resources support our strategic and operational goals and objectives • In conjunction with the CFO CRFU: - Oversee timely and accurate preparation of annual budget - Maintain or improve the investment position of the Crusaders - Ensure budget managers have timely and accurate information to effectively run the business - Provide timely and accurate financial reporting information to the Board - Drive performance, discipline and business behaviour required to meet profitability and equity targets directed by the Board

Commercial • Accountable for achieving and improving our commercial revenue ambitions, working with the GM Commercial and the commercial team to: - Develop and deliver innovative commercial opportunities and partnerships, and new and diverse revenue streams to underpin the delivery of our programmes, services and activities - Maintain and enhance relationships with key commercial partners and sponsors to ensure timely and effective delivery of key benefits available and awareness of opportunities - Develop and implement integrated activation programmes designed to deliver maximum commercial return for all stakeholders - Ensure all commercial partnership reporting requirements are met, ensuring compliance with all contracts and arrangements

Marketing and Communications • Accountable for marketing, communications and public relations activities, working with the Head of Marketing and Communications to: - Develop and implement an effective marketing, communication and PR strategy to optimise the crusaders’ brand and game of rugby on a local, national and international platform - Grow the brand identity through high quality marketing programmes and brand campaigns, collaborating with commercial partners to develop and execute brand initiatives that activate, engage and retain members and fans, strategic partners and sponsors, as well as engaging with the broader community - Develop and implement best practice event management initiatives - Ensure all media work is consistent with our communications and marketing Plan - Represent the Crusaders brand as a primary media spokesperson in conjunction with the Chairman of the Board

Professional Rugby • Accountable for the ongoing development and delivery of the player development strategy and programmes, ensuring a balanced and coordinated approach to rugby and non-rugby development of high performance players in conjunction with the GM Professional Rugby • Provide the foundation for the Crusaders to perform to the best of their ability on a local, national and international platform • Work with the GM Professional Rugby to develop and implement strategies and practices to grow and retain the best talent and provide clear pathways for players, coaches and support staff

High Performance Unit • Accountable for delivery and promotion of the High Performance Unit, including the delivery of high performance strategy and programmes, and ongoing playing talent, including player identification and succession planning, in conjunction with the GM Professional Rugby and other key stakeholders • Oversee the development of a sustainable high-performance system that ensures consistent, world best performance • Ensure the services to the CRFU under the High-Performance Services Agreement are provided to an excellent standard

Central and Local Government Stakeholder Engagement • Maintain a close liaison with central and local government, lobbying proactively to support the achievement of strategic initiatives • Improve and maintain strong relationships with political decision makers and influential national and local government officials

Rugby Sector Stakeholder and Shareholder Engagement • Form highly collaborative and close working relationships with Rugby Sector Stakeholder Groups on a local and global basis • Provide high level engagement with shareholders, ensuring they are kept informed and positioned to extract maximum value

Crusaders’ Super Rugby games • Attend, host, and take overall responsibility at all home Crusaders’ Super Rugby games, and travel to and attend all away Crusaders’ Super Rugby games as required. • Attend and travel to NZRU events as required

Knowledge and Development • Keep up to date with and stay abreast of best practice standards and practices • Maintain awareness of the wider sports market, and understand economic, business and political changes that affect the Crusaders business

Any Other Business • Any other activity or business initiative that may be required or directed by the Board from time to time

Required Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor Degree: Business, Marketing, Commercial, Brand Management, Sports Management or relevant other • Substantial experience and success working in a leadership capacity in a commercial senior executive position within the professional sports sector or with a high-performing commercial brand within the private sector • Clearly demonstrated expertise engaging across high level, stakeholder groups, representing an organisation through active brand management • Established reputation of delivering innovative growth and commercial development strategies • Knowledge of management frameworks and pathways • Demonstrated expertise in identifying and establishing new revenue streams that support strategic objectives
