February 26, 2020 Chairman David Skaggs Co-Chairwoman Allison Hayward Office of Congressional Ethics 425 3rd Street, SW Suite 1110 Washington, DC 20024 Dear Chairman Skaggs and Co-Chairwoman Hayward: We write to request that the Office of Congressional Ethics (“OCE”) investigate whether Representative Devin Nunes is receiving free legal services in violation of the Rules of the House of Representatives (“House rules”). Specifically, Representative Nunes retained an attorney who represents him in several defamation lawsuits in various courts where he seeks a total of nearly $1 billion in damages. House rules prohibit a Member from receiving free legal services, unless the Member establishes a Legal Expense Fund (“LEF”). According to the House Legislative Resource Center, Representative Nunes has not filed any of the required reports to establish an LEF. The relevant facts detailed below establish that the OCE Board should authorize an investigation of Representative Nunes. Representative Nunes’s overt involvement with the highly-publicized lawsuits threatens to establish a precedent that the Legal Expense Fund (“LEF”) regulations no longer apply to Members. Although Representative Nunes is entitled to legal representation and he may pursue any legal action to protect and defend his interests, he must comply with House rules. An OCE investigation will preserve Representative Nunes’s legal right to counsel while upholding well-established House rules and precedent. House Rules Prohibit Members from Receiving Discounted or Free Legal Services A Member of the House of Representatives “may not knowingly accept a gift” with limited exceptions.1 A “gift” is defined to include “a gratuity, favor, discount, entertainment, hospitality, loan, forbearance, or other item having monetary value.

  • Ted Cruz Is Not a Constitutionalist, and Therefore Cannot Be a Constitutional Conservative
Do you believe in the constitution? In the Bible? Ted Cruz is not a constitutionalist, and therefore cannot be a constitutional conservative. He is an establishment conservative. Neither he nor Rubio are qualified candidates. But the birther question is only the tip of the iceberg: The most common tenets to support Ted Cruz deal with the following questions: Is Ted Cruz Constitutionally able to hold the Office of the United States Presidency? Is Ted Cruz a ‘True Conservative’? Is Ted Cruz devoted to the ‘Word of God’? I will try to answer these questions as shortly as possible, but truth be told, I could do a long dissertation on the matter. The answers to all of those Questions are No, No, and No. I've almost completed the first question, but it's enough to share now. http://www.mediaaccess.hu/userspace/pdf_files/Dispelling%20the%20Myths%20that %20Support%20Ted%20Cruz.pdf http://www.mediaaccess.hu/index.php?module=sourcepage&id=598&lang=1 In #TedCruz own words!! Ted Cruz Said, Obama Not Eligible To Be President; Citizen Parents? “ I am honored that so many Americans want me to run for the office of President. However, my moral convictions require that I state clearly for the record that I am not eligible for the office of president or vice president according to Article II – Section I – Clause V of the U.S. Constitution, which requires that only a Natural Born Citizen of the United States, born of an American Citizen Father, seek or hold these offices. As I was born the son of a Cuban Citizen living in Canada at the time, I am not a Natural Born Citizen of the United States.

Republicans who vow to never back Trump | TheHill http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/278141-republican... April 29, 2016, 10:54 am By Haley Britzky, Luke Barr and Andrew Dunn Getty Images A number of prominent Republicans are vowing to never back Donald Trump even as he closes in on the GOP presidential nomination. The "Never Trump" ranks include lawmakers, party operatives, pundits and GOP donors — and the movement even sparked a popular hashtag on social media. They are convinced Trump as standard-bearer would lead the GOP to a devastating defeat in November, costing the party the Senate and potentially the House. The real estate mogul, though, is marching ahead, and now has 994 of the 1,237 delegates needed to capture the nomination, according to the Associated Press. And there are growing signs many in the GOP establishment are warming to Trump. He's been endorsed by 11 lawmakers, with others regularly attending Capitol Hill meetings with his staff. Trump has also declared himself the "presumptive nominee." Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus has criticized the Never Trump movement as well. "It is essential to victory in November that we all support our candidate," Priebus said at the RNC's spring meeting. Trump's opponents are focused on trying to deny him the delegates needed to secure the nomination in hopes of forcing a contested convention in July. Here's a list of Republicans who won't back Trump as nominee. Rep. Justin Amash (Mich.) Gov. Charlie Baker (Mass.) Glenn Beck, radio host Michael Berry, radio host Max Boot, former foreign policy adviser to Sen.

  • Growing Latino Population in This District Represents 10.41% of Registered Voters
The Power of the Latino Vote in America They Tipped Elections in 2008; Where Will They Be in 2010? AUGUST 2010 UPDATE LATINO VOTER TRENDS IN RECENT ELECTION CYCLES Over the past decade, Latino voters have increased their political power and made a decisive impact in races at all levels, including the presidential election. In 2010, Latino voters are poised to play a crucial role in key House, Senate, and gubernatorial races across the country. Many analysts have noted that as the Latino electorate grows in size and power, candidates from all political parties must take their views into account to remain viable in an increasing number of races. While the Latino electorate is trending Democratic overall, at least one segment—foreign‐born, naturalized U.S. citizens of Latino descent, who represent 40% of the Latino voter population—has proven to be a true swing constituency. Candidates for political office in 2010, elected officials, and political strategists would be wise to not just look at how Latino voters are likely to vote this cycle, but why. In particular, in an election cycle in which immigration is likely to play a major role in many races, the way Latino voters view the partisan dimensions of the immigration debate is of crucial importance in 2010 and beyond. This updated report lays out trends in Latino voting patterns over the last several years, and examines some of the factors that influence this segment of the electorate. The report features a list of “Races to Watch”—forty‐one battleground House, Senate and gubernatorial contests where Latino voters will play a key role—and details the congressional districts where Latino voting power is most concentrated.

The Fair Tax would treat everyone – gay or straight – equally. Until then, we support death tax repeal; domestic partner tax equity; cuts in the capital gains and corporate tax rates to jump start our economy and create jobs; a fairer, flatter and substantially simpler tax code. 2 HEALTHCARE REFORM Repeal of Obamacare; encourage free market healthcare reform. Allow for the purchase of insurance across state lines expanding access to domestic partner benefits; emphasizing individual ownership of healthcare insurance – such a shift would prevent discriminatory practices by an employer or the government. 3 SOCIAL SECURITY REFORM The only way to permanent solvency in the Social Security system is through the creation of inheritable personal saving accounts. Personal savings accounts would give gay and lesbian couples the same opportunity to leave their accounts their spouses as their straight counterparts.
