For clients who are seeking English-speaking mental health service providers, we are a trusted resource helping clients access the best services for their mental health needs. For English-speaking mental health professionals (including immigrant and veteran therapists alike) we provide a formal and friendly framework that seeks to advance professional development opportunities in English, and gives support and guidance in maintaining ethical, legal, and competent mental health services. In addition to assisting English-speakers find the right help in their mother tongue, GHI consults with dozens of organizations, schools, and government offices to provide customized referrals for their individual needs. This includes over 50 Gap year programs, Aliyah organizations, and various embassies/consulates of English-speaking countries. The association is recognized and respected for its rigorous verification of the professionals' credentials in accordance with Israeli law. GHI is expanding its reach to mental health professionals and organizations around the world in becoming the go-to referral source for people moving to or living in Israel. GHI is also expanding community programs to provide affordable and accessible therapeutic services to English-speakers. An example of such programming is The Lone Soldier Program, providing subsidized therapy to lone soldiers through qualified participating mental health professionals. HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE The guide is divided into the following sections: Private therapists, psychiatrists, and Support groups and anonymous life coaches meetings Private and subsidized treatment Information on navigating the public facilities mental health system in Israel Hospital-based psychiatric facilities Hotlines and emergency phone numbers Subsidized mental health services The private therapists, psychiatrists, and life coaches in this directory are members of the association and have all been verified*. 6 Introduction What is checked in the verification of the professionals listed? • A Post-graduate degree in mental health (MA, MSW, PhD, PsyD, MD, MEd, MFT, etc.) from an accredited university, or for life coaches, a coaching certificate from a recognized coaching program • Ensure that the title used by the professional is in accordance with the law in Israel. GHI verifies that the therapists with professional titles that require licensing in Israel (Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and Social Workers) show a copy of that license • Verify licenses from abroad for those therapists who state that they hold a license outside of Israel • Request to see copies of any additional credentials that the therapist has stated on the profile We focus on verification for 3 reasons: 1. The client does not always know to ask, or may not feel comfortable to ask the therapist to see his/her credentials. The therapists listed in the GHI directory have all had their credentials checked to meet the association's requirements as stated above. 2. The titles "therapist" and "psychotherapist" are not regulated in Israel; therefore anyone can represent themselves as such and start seeing clients without adequate training in the field. GHI serves as a filter, providing the public with access to qualified therapists. 3. While psychotherapists, marriage and family therapists, and counseling psychologists/mental health counsellors currently do not have a government licensing body in Israel, those listed in the directory have post-graduate qualifications in their areas of specialty from accredited universities, some are licensed or license eligible in their country of origin, and are members of professional associations in Israel and/or abroad. We hope that you find this directory useful and whether you are a therapist seeking to build your professional network, or a client seeking services, GHI is committed to positive growth and assisting English-speakers navigate the Israeli mental health system. If you have great ideas that you think GHI should consider in the future, don’t hesitate to contact our main office at [email protected]. *While Get Help Israel seeks to verify the factual accuracy regarding information pertaining to the therapists listed in its directory, verification is limited to the credentials of the professionals. Persons considering contacting any of the therapists listed in the directory are urged to conduct their independent investigation and evaluation before retaining services.
