• San Jose State entered the NCAA record book in its November 9, 2019 game at Hawai’i when neither team punted in the Spartans’ 42-40 loss. The Spartans had eight posses- sions in the game scoring four touchdowns and four field goals.

• San Jose State recovered its first onside kick in five years whenChristian Webb came up with the football in a successful attempt in the second game of the 2019 season against Tulsa. The Spartans had gone 0-for-10 in onside kick attempts during the 2015 through 2018 seasons.

CEFCU Stadium evolving: CEFCU Stadium’s new scoreboard and video board made its debut at the north end of the stadium in 2020. During the summer of 2019, nearly 9,000 spectator seats were removed from the east grandstand to complete Phase #1 of the Spartan Athletics Center project at CEFCU Stadium. Scheduled to open in 2023, the Center will be the new home for San Jose State football, women’s soccer and men’s soccer and be available for use by the entire Spartan student-athlete population. Phase #2, demolition of the east side of CEFCU Stadium, occurred in 2020. In 2023, the east side of CEFCU Stadium will be rebuilt with bleacher seating, concession stands and other amenities.

Home stadium name history: San José State and Citizens Equity First Credit Union (CEF- CU, pronounced SEFF-cue) are in year three of a 15-year naming rights agreement for the university’s football stadium, built in 1933, to be called CEFCU Stadium - Home of the Spartans. CEFCU and San José State Athletics first became partners in 2011 with signage on the stadium scoreboard and at the West gate entry point.

Versatile Spartans: Center Kyle Hoppe and defensive linemen E.J. Ane are San Jose State players to play both offense and defense for the Spartans. Ane played on both sides of the ball in the 2018 UNLV and Nevada games.

Hoppe, a two-year starter at center, was a reserve defensive lineman in 2017.

Deese, Sr., and Hall were teammates on San Francisco’s XXIX champion team. Terence Loville’s uncle, was a teammate of Derrick Deese, Sr. and Rhett Hall on the 49ers Super Bowl XXIX championship team.

Beyond Football: The San José State University “Beyond Football” program encompass- es personal growth, identifying career objectives and fostering community service.
