E-mail: [email protected] Abstract The fauna of Iranian Alleculinae is summarized in this paper. Seventy species from 12 genera are reported: the subtribe Alleculina Laporte with 4 genera and 18 species: Hymenalia Mulsant (7 species), Hymenophorus Mulsant (3 species), My- cetocharina Seidlitz (6 species), Prionychus Solier (2 species); the subtribe Gonoderina Seidlitz with 3 genera and 6 spe- cies: Gonodera Mulsant (1 species), Isomira Mulsant (4 species), Pseudocistela Crotch (1 species), the subtribe Mycetocharina Gistel with a single genus and 3 species: Mycetochara Berthold (3 species) and the tribe Cteniopodini So- lier with 4 genera and 43 species: Cteniopus Solier (5 species), Omophlina Reitter (2 species), Omophlus Dejean (32 spe- cies) and Podonta Solier (4 species). Nine species are newly recorded for the fauna of Iran: Hymenalia atronitens (Fairmaire, 1892), Mycetocharina rufotestacea Reitter, 1898, Prionychus asiatica (Fairmaire, 1892), Isomira nitidula (Kiesenwetter, 1861), Mycetochara ocularis Reitter, 1884, Cteniopus impressicolis Fairmaire, 1892, Omophlus afghanus Muche, 1965, Omophlus schmidi Muche, 1965 and Podonta elongata Ménétriés, 1832. -

Lambkin (2001) conducted a thorough review of relevant scientific literature in reference to A. diaperinus and provides a good understanding of the biology, ecology and bionomics of the pest. Bruvo et al. (1995) conducted molecular work to determine satellite DNA variants on the chromosomes of A. diaperinus. Alphitobius diaperinus is a member of the tenebrionid tribe Alphitobiini (Doyen 1989), which comprises four genera worldwide (Aalbu et al. 2002). Two genera occur Figure 1. Our objective was to analyze the spatial patterns of arthropod assemblages along a gradient of different stabilization levels, which represents the different stages of dune stabilization - from the shifting crest of the dune to the stabilized crusted interdune. The study was carried out at the sand dunes of the northwestern Negev in Israel. Data was collected using dry pitfall traps over two consecutive years during the spring along northern windward aspects. -

Scott* Two cDNAs encoding different acetylcholinesterase (AChE) genes (AdAce1 and AdAce2) were sequenced and analyzed from the lesser mealworm, Alphitobius diaperinus. Both AdAce1 and AdAce2 were highly similar (95 and 93% amino acid identity, respectively) with the Ace genes of Tribolium castaneum. Both AdAce1 and AdAce2 have the conserved residues characteristic of AChE (catalytic triad, intra-disulfide bonds, and so on). Partial cDNA sequences of the Alphitobius Ace genes were compared between two tetrachlorvinphos resistant (Kennebec and Waycross) and one susceptible strain of beetles. Several single nucle- otide polymorphisms (SNPs) were detected, but only one non-synonymous mutation was found (A271S in AdAce2). No SNPs were exclusively found in the resistant strains, the A271S mutation does not correspond to any mutations previously reported to alter sensitivity of AChE to organophosphates or carbamates, and the A271S was found only as a heterozygote in one individual from one of the resistant A. diaperinus strains. This suggests that tetrachlorvinphos resistance in the Kennebec and Waycross strains of A. diaperinus is not due to mutations in either AChE gene.
