Gibbs Collection contains 3,952 slides collected by Edward T. Gibbs. Some slides were photographed by Gibbs, though many were taken by other photographers. These slides depict numerous theatre buildings across the United States and in other nations, providing documentation for the appearance of the theatres for the times in which they were photographed, from the late 1960s until the late 1990s. Background Information Edward T. Gibbs was a founding member of the Theatre Historical Society in 1969. He was born in 1923, resided for much of his life in New York City, and died in 2001 in Jersey City, New Jersey. Scope and Contents Note Slides are organized by state or country (if foreign), then city name, then the name of the theatre. Slides in New York City are organized alphabetically by borough, and images taken in Canada are organized by province, then city, then theatre name. A smaller series of slides of drive-in theatres is also organized by state, city name, and then theatre name. All slides with no written photo credit are credited to Edward T. Gibbs.
