Sustainable livelihood generation through CSIR-IHBT technologies in aspirational district Chamba of Himachal Pradesh Detailed project proposal and action plan Submitted by CSIR- Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology Palampur – 176061 Himachal Pradesh Executive Summary Chamba is located in the North Western part of Himachal Pradesh and is identified as an aspirational district by NITI Aayog, Government of India (GoI). Chamba is completely landlocked with mountainous terrain. High altitude and prolonged winter with glaciers have reduced the accessibility of the region to the fast growing economy of the country. Some of the major issues faced by the region are 1. Lack of storage facilities for agri-horti produces 2. Poor industrial access and lack of processing facility 3. Poor communication and transportation 4. Poor access to healthcare 5. Unemployment All the aforesaid issues are interlinked and need a sustainable solution through effective utilization of natural resources and their value addition. Deployment of scientific and technological (S&T) solutions becomes necessary for a sustainable growth. In this context, CSIR- Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology, a constituent laboratory of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, GoI envisages deployment of S&T solutions that utilizes local bioresources and diversify agricultural practices in new avenues such as floriculture, apiculture, cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants (MAP), precision agriculture, mushroom cultivation, food processing technologies for sustainable economic returns and employment generation. The document provides a detailed work plan and deliverables under seven different themes viz., 1. Agricultural diversification with medicinal and aromatic plants and floriculture crops 2. Integrated floriculture and apiculture for enhanced income 3. Precision agriculture with Hydroponics/Aeroponics technology 4. -

Vol. 9 No. 1, pp. 178-182 AJCB: SC0044 ISSN 2278-7666 ©TCRP Foundation 2020 Distribution of Himalayan Grey Langur, Semnopithecus ajax, Pocock 1928 in Himachal Pradesh, India Vikram Singh* and DR Thakur Department of Biosciences, Himachal Pradesh University, Summer Hill, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh- 171005, India (Received: February 25, 2020; Revised: May 10, 2020 ; Accepted: July 05 , 2020) ABSTRACT Study on diversity, distribution and abundance of critically endangered species Semnopithecus ajax Pocock 1928commonly known as Himalayan Gray Langur was carried out in Himachal Pradesh, India and it has been observed that out of total twelve districts of the state this species is confined to Chamba districts only. This spe- cies was studied from 18 different localities of Chamba district during 2015-18. The largest troop consisting of 89 individuals was recorded from Prangal panchayat of Bharmaour block and an isolated single young individual was noticed on Koti Bridge near Sundla. There is seasonal but local migration of grey langur in the study area and species has conflict with human being due to shrinking of habitat and other natural resources. P. India Abstract- In the present study, the atomic absorption carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic effects. Abstract Tribal Margins analyzes the project of tribal fashioning in the Western Himalayas against the backdrop of affirmative action politics. Specifically, it unpacks the discursive loop between government-administered ethnological paradigms for positive discrimination and its effects on ethnic belonging and spirituality. These dynamics are located among the Gaddis of Himachal Pradesh, a heterogeneous tribal/Dalit community traditionally associated with transhumant pastoralism on both sides of the Dhauladhar Mountains. The 2002 awarding of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to only high- caste Kangra Gaddis has instigated a range of tribalizing strategies from Dalit groups who identity as Gaddi and are partially assimilated into tribal life. These low-status groups demand tribal recognition as both a form of social justice in the face of longstanding social discriminations and as a pragmatic strategy for state support amid the growing tide of neoliberalism. They rightly contend that the demographics of Himachal Pradesh (with the second-highest Dalit population in India) cause fierce competitiveness within the Scheduled Caste quota – about four times as competitive as the Scheduled Tribe quota. -

Prepared By: (SARIT CHANDER) Assistant-Geologist Geological Wing Department of Industries Shimla Himachal Pradesh STUDY ON THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM, MINERAL POTENTIAL AND FEASIBILITY OF MINING IN RIVER/ STREAM BEDS OF DISTRICT CHAMBA, HIMACHAL PRADESH. 1) INTRODUCTION: In pursuance of point 9.2 (Strategy 2) of “River/Stream Bed Mining Policy Guidelines for the State of Himachal Pradesh, 2004” was framed and notiofied vide notification No.- Ind-II (E)2-1/2001 dated 28.2.2004 and subsequently new mineral policy 2013 has been framed. Now the Minstry of Environemnt, Forest and Climate Change, Govt. of India vide notifications dated 15.1.2016, caluse 7(iii) pertains to preparation of Distt Survey report for sand mining or riverbed mining and mining of other minor minerals for regulation and control of mining operation, a survey document of existing River/Stream bed mining in each district is to be undertaken. In the said policy guidelines, it was provided that District level river/stream bed mining action plan shall be based on a survey document of the existing river/stream bed mining in each district and also to assess its direct and indirect benefits and identification of the potential threats to the individual rivers/streams in the State. This survey shall contain:- a) District wise detail of Rivers/Streams/Khallas; and b) District wise details of existing mining leases/ contracts in river/stream/khalla beds Based on this survey, the action plan shall divide the rivers/stream of the State into the following two categories;- a) Rivers/ Streams or the River/Stream sections selected for extraction of minor minerals b) Rivers/ Streams or the River/Stream sections prohibited for extraction of minor minerals.
