Not only do you star in “Shades of Blue,” you’re also part of the team of executive producers on it. How is that helping you in making sure the show is done the way you want? They’re making sure that every line comes to life, and that every line is the right line. We’d be in my trailer, and we’d see that an episode had a real opportunity to be something super-profound about humanity. We’d be sitting there trying to find the one line, and not giving up until it was exactly what we thought it could be. Looking at all the promos now, it just shows you how every moment is important, and so is how everything looks. Producing is exciting for me in that way, because being an actor for so many years, I was just doing my part – literally – and having to stay in my lane. You’re also an executive producer of “The Fosters,” which resumes on the newly renamed Freeform on Jan. 25. Talking about “Shades of Blue” as well, television can help in so many ways, and I really believe “The Fosters” does that. It pushes the envelope and educates people about what’s going on. It’s such a beautiful show.
