Columbus took the season series last year (3-0-1). The Blue Jackets will play in New York on Jan. 19, host the Rangers on Valentine’s Day and play the final game of the season series at Madison Square Garden on Mar. 24. • The loss snapped a six-game point streak (5-0-1) as well as four-game home point streak (3-0-1) against the Rangers. • Tonight was a rare loss in a Thursday night home game for the Blue Jackets. It was just their second regulation loss in the last 17 Thursday home games dating back to Dec. 14, 2017 (14-2- 1). The club also fell to 22-5-1 in Thursday games overall dating back to Mar. 8, 2018. • It was the club’s league-leading 18th one-goal contest this season (9-5-4). • The Blue Jackets outshot the Rangers, 47-to-19 in the game. The 47 shots are the most recorded in a game this season, topping the 44 shots the Jackets had on Oct. 7 vs. Buffalo. • Columbus went 0-for-5 on the power play and 1-for-2 on the penalty kill in the match. • Tonight’s attendance was a crowd of 15,785. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ BLUE JACKETS PLAYER NOTES • D Seth Jones, who had seven shots on a team-high 24:16 TOI, scored Columbus’ second goal of the game early in the third period. He now has 3-3-6 in his last eight games this season. He also has 4-7-11 in his last 11 games vs. the Rangers. • RW Cam Atkinson scored the first goal of the game and now has 2-3-5 in his last eight games. He also has notched 3-3-6 in his last six contests vs. the Rangers. • LW Nick Foligno had the lone assist on Atkinson’s goal for his ninth helper of the season. He became the fourth player to record 300th career points in Blue Jackets history (129-171-300 in 514 games). • D Andrew Peeke registered a shot and three hits on 12:53 TOI while making his NHL debut tonight. • D Dean Kukan had the lone assist on Jones’ goal, giving him points in back-to-back games. He scored the first regular season goal of his NHL career on Tuesday vs. Arizona. • RW Oliver Bjorkstrand set a career high and tied a single-game franchise record with 10 shots on goal (11th occurrence). • C Riley Nash played in his 500th NHL game tonight.     Testimony of Cameron Scholvin on behalf of the Columbus Blue Jackets Before the Ohio Senate Select Committee on Gaming March 17, 2021 Good Afternoon Chairman Schuring and members of the committee. My name is Cameron Scholvin and I am the Chief Operating Officer for the Columbus Blue Jackets. I thank you for the opportunity to provide testimony today on the proposition of legalized sports betting in Ohio. First, I’d like to speak a bit about the Columbus Blue Jackets. The McConnell family had a vision of bringing professional sports to Columbus and were awarded the rights to a National Hockey League franchise in November of 1996. The following May, a referendum for a publicly funded arena failed, but instead of ending the city’s hopes of attracting an NHL team, Mr. McConnell met with leaders at Nationwide and a partnership was formed that resulted in a state- of-the-art arena opening in September 2000 and a transformation of downtown Columbus that continues today. This year’s unprecedented season of no fans and limited fans marks the team’s 20th Anniversary Season. The advent of the team, the arena and the Arena District replaced a condemned state penitentiary and sparked a rebirth of downtown Columbus. As the team goes the Arena District goes. If the District is the heart of the city then the Blue Jackets have most certainly been its heartbeat, bringing an energy, a pride and a passion previously unseen downtown. In fact, multiple markets have since visited Nationwide Arena and the Arena District, and consider it the model for how a professional sports team and venue can energize a city and become an economic engine for development.
