EDUCATION Post Doctoral Graduate Work - Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas Military History Instructors Course, three semester hour graduate level history course

Ph.D. (Geography), Texas A&M University (TAMU), Advisor - Peter J. Hugill, Ph.D. “Textile Industrialization in Ireland Before the Famine,” Ph.D. Dissertation, August 2003. This study examines a regional economic enterprise (the production of linen and cotton textiles from flax and cotton fiber respectively), the influence of globalization upon this enterprise (the development of a core industry [cotton and linen mills] in a peripheral region [Ireland]), and the resultant economic, political, social, and societal changes [including the economically driven emigration of Ulster Scots from the north of Ireland and the “Troubles” that are occurring to the present in Northern Ireland] that resulted from changes in this enterprise during a significant alteration of the world’s economic structure (the Industrial Revolution).

M.A. (History & Politics), Texas A&M University - Kingsville (TAMUK), Advisor - Leslie G. Hunter, Ph.D. “South Texas Renaissance Man: The Humanitarian, Political, and Philanthropic Activities of Judge J. T. Canales,” Master’s Degree Thesis, August 1996. This study examines the life of a significant Texan of Tejano [Hispanic] heritage. Judge Canales was a pivotal influence upon Tejano political and cultural inclusion and integration during the first half of the Twentieth Century. Incorporated within the Canales experience is a broader examination of the fight for Tejano integration into Texas, Southwest, and U.S. society.

B.A. (Geography), The University of Texas at Austin (UT), Mentor - Dean Lorrin Kennamer, Ph.D. Preparation focused upon physical geography, cartography and computer-aided geographic courses, and four regional areas of geographic preparation (Meso-America, with Mayan civilization concentration; Southwestern Asia, with Arab and Islamic Worlds concentration; Europe; and the US Southwest).
